Just because the vase is already cracked doesn't mean you should shatter it.
No it's not, because it's a fictional story. The definition of sexism is anything that limits, or restricts a gender on the basis of gender roles.
Not letting us play female Hrothgar because they stay at home to protect the children is sexist.
Not letting us play male Viera because they are out in the woods doing stereotypical man stuff is sexist.
You guys are using the word "sexist" too swiftly, and by doing that you're watering down it's meaning, and that's a direct insult to people who suffer/suffered sexism.
What a shame, it hurts to read the official forum these days. People are losing their minds over something really stupid.

It certainly does look like casual, and probably unintentional, sexism to me (taking the first dictionary definition from Lunelagos' post above: 1. attitudes or behavior based on traditional stereotypes of gender roles). Lingerie wearing females and hulky, muscular male warriors are about as stereotypical as you can get.
This is how I feel about it. I'm not raging, I'm not mortally offended by the genderlock on these two races but I am disappointed. Considering genderlocks were removed in ARR, giving us the muscular fem Roe and the lithe male miqo'te, this decision seems like a step back to me.There's nothing inherently wrong with sex appeal or beastliness, but the exclusion of each race's opposite gender rubs me the wrong way. Although we're speaking of a fictional world, it was still made by real people. They didn't grow up in a vacuum; their work won't be completely removed from reality either. Culture influences all of us. Unfortunately, culture still isn't all that great about gender expectations.
At the end of the day, yeah, it's just a game and it's not as serious as any of the examples you listed, but that still doesn't make it hunky dory either, you know? Something doesn't have to be the worst thing ever to make it worth pointing out.

It's not sexism imo. Maybe some "hate" toward bunny boys from Yoshi-P (reminding the bunny suit case), for Ronso, maybe it's just to not have only one of the 2 new race gender lock.
As for lore, the game says Viera male exist.
And btw, if we were following lore, there wouldn't be any Au Ra in Eorzea, and they couldn't set a foot in Ishgard without a hood of some kind so... I might be wrong be i'll settle with the "he doesn't like bunny boy'' theory. For as useless it is.
ARR removed genderlocks, which were cool to me as I like to play a race as I please. It is but a game after all.
Guys. The real reason why male Vieras aren't happening is because Viera were a "last minute" project. This is confirmed a second time in the Mr. Happy interview. We were originally just going to get Hrothgars o:
Also they really dunno what to go with for the male Viera, since we've never seen one before. Yoshi-P even said "Perhaps an elezen body with a miqo’te face and bunny ears. Would this be the right way to add this race to the game?"
So that's it. Let's just wait then.Guys. The real reason why male Vieras aren't happening is because Viera were a "last minute" project. This is confirmed a second time in the Mr. Happy interview. We were originally just going to get Hrothgars o:

If they don't know there's tons of fanart from where they can pick though.
I feel people do not read things. Yoshi-P said aloud it's time when they made decision and about recourses but community continues to bring up lore as main reason. ツ (or well, that's just their opinion that they can have)
Very reasonable point. If look at feedback tho, people were very positive about concept arts that were showed in 3.0, where males were something between elezens, miqo'tes and au ra. Tall (seem to be a little bit shorter than females on art? About 8-10cm? Can be just angle though), slender but still muscular, good-looking face. But even with this feedback it's still a quite hard to decide how to create them. Also they really dunno what to go with for the male Viera, since we've never seen one before. I just read here about the interview. Not everyone are after every MrHappy stuff.
Sure, just, it was posted here almost right after the release or maybe a little bit later.
And Yoshida talked about recourse at interview on FanFest as well (there was a mistranslation though. Not serious one, but still).
