I would rather hear they say that they have no time to make the Male Viera.

I mean, to be a 3D modeler I understand it might be a huge challenge to make both Viera in FFXIV, or maybe its because of the Viera is basically coming from FFXII, so the company didn't allow them to make male Viera?

I don't know... but I mean, Yoshi-P always gives us nice experience and surprise all the time (at least it's my feeling).

Follow the lore doesn't make sense to me

Modelling and animation is definitely a concern with adding new races (and genders). However, creating the Hrothgar isn't any easier than creating male Viera. It's overall harder, in fact. They could've just as well added male Viera instead, but they think that not enough people would want to play them (or female Hrothgar). It's a pretty simple cost vs. profit calculation and obviously doesn't have anything to do with lore.

Whether that calculation is correct and makes up for alienating a large chunk of the community is up for debate.

If/when hrothgar fail to attract players (roegadyns are already the least played race, and this is just likely to pull players that are male roes currently) they might realize this was a mistake. We will see

The Hrothgar it looks pretty...crudely made in the PV in my idea.
It looks like it only takes a few month to make the model and just throw it into the presentation.

It depends on what they'd do to make a male Viera VS Hrothgar.

Just even taking a look at the Hrothgar, half of the bone/skeleton rigging is already done for them since there's a massive chance they'll be re-using Male Roegadyn modelling assets to create it. Whereas they might need to create unique skeletons for the male Viera from the ground up; it's really hard to say whether one or the other would be easier at all. You second point about projected cost vs profit is pretty guaranteed to be the true reason behind their decision, given how they've talked about how underplayed Female Roe + Highlanders are in comparison to other races being a crux to why female Au Ra turned out so cute than their concept art initially showed.

proportionally, its not a rodegayn. a lot of people see all bulky as one thing, but its not. hrothgar presents a charachter type, silouhette wise that is probably more unique than male vierra would likely have been.

That's what bothers me about the Hrothgar that they've shown at the keynote, and it bothers me from an artistic perspective. It's clear (to me) that they were quickly assembled upon male Roegadyn rigging. But their heads bother me the most. It's static & is obvious that it's a male Roegadyn head with feline-like features slapped on. It reminds me of the faces of the Vah Shir & Iskar from the first EverQuest game. It shows that they were something that was put together at the last minute. I kind of wish that the head more resembled the artwork, or the Kerran from EverQuest 2 & EQ Next art.

The lore reason used to explain these two races being gender-locked falls as flat as Mythic-EA's reason for not having had female Marauders in Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.

Overall, I am only mildly disappointed that this is the route they've chosen for races in Shadowbringers.

Maybe on the aesthetic side; I'm talking from the modelling side. My point was simply we don't know the difficulty in modelling either race; if one of their designed races can re-use assets or modify existing ones to create it when the other can't, then Hrothgar would be infinitely easier to make then male Viera would.

Plus, even despite not having the exact same proportions as Roegadyn, they're very similar. Extremely wide chest & shoulders, very little in the way of curvature at the hips; thick legs & arms. It's a pretty easy guess that male roegadyn assets can be modified extremely easy to suit Hrothgar. Also given the game's "your characters are actually legos" design in its gear, it's 99% guaranteed they'll share gear builds with Male Roegadyn.

it is not a roedegayn proportionally, it is closer to real human. roe has abnormally long trunks, and proportionally shorter legs. Hrothgar appears to be closer to normal human proportions torso/leg length wise.

as far as faces, we havent seen it much, but i have to assume the face moves, since the game has emotes and facial expressions, but its posdible they will always be stone faced.
