Obnoxious DPS in EX roulette. Shocker, I know.

Got into Arboretum HM, which meant I was already sour from not getting a dungeon good to temporarily gear alt classes, and tank is new. Its obvious, he watches the fly over cutscene, the bonus message appears. BLM takes off and misses protect, so being a passive aggressive little jerk, I just never give it to him. DRK pulls small, mildly annoying with a BLM and SCH, but he is new and doesnt know where the pulls are and might be nervous. BLM asks with minimum snark if we can pull bigger, and DRK doesnt answer. No english? Not sure. Another small pull, since thats all there is at that point, and MNK gives it one of those "...." posts, which you know what it means as much as I do.

Continue on with small pulls, MNK asks if DRK is okay and he seems confused by that, finally responding. They ask for bigger pulls again, for after first boss. Nothing to report on boss, but small pulls continue, and DPS are both getting visibly pissed off. Complaining how long it will take, etc. MNK does bother to explain that because the BLM is there, we can pull bigger and kill fast. DRK explains he's new and doesnt want to, so that should be the end of it.

Well, DPS finally lose their patience, and pull mobs on their own. Not with permission from me, of course. Im fine with it, going faster is fine and its not as if I cant heal them, but when I bring it up, they insist they did ask. Asking the tank to move faster is not the same as asking your healer if you can pull on your own. I could have let them die, all it would have cost me was Eos getting smacked around by trash.

They decide its appropriate to votekick the new tank, and he vanishes just as he pulls the second boss. I just wait outside and let them both die, which seems to surprise them. The tank vanishing, I mean. I dont know if they didnt understand that votekicks arent canceled by battle or what. They complain about him while we wait for a new tank, and Im trying to explain that maybe you just want to be patient and let new people go their own pace. You are a DPS, you dont get to decide the speed of the run. I considered leaving, but a new tank joined and I couldnt remember if Id still get a penalty for ditching. I didnt want to risk a 30 minute timer because they idiots cant take a breath.

MNK asks new tank if they will pull big, they say yes. Weird question, feels more like them being passive aggressive about me apparently not caring about pulls, but I admit that might just be my annoyance making me read too much into it. Boss goes fine, no worse or better than usual. Tank indeed does big pulls, but MNK just cant be happy with getting their way. Asks "see, isnt this better?" Yeah, I guess? It doesnt matter, and I tell them as much.

Now, we get to last boss and this is where I just...mmm, like the mental equivalent of your reaction when you slam your thumb in a door. MNK had objected to my argument that tank being new made it more okay for him to go slow, and said that she was new to the dungeon as well. I dont know why they said it, it became more clear (more clear than 100%) that they werent when they did not get the achievement upon entering the boss arena. I guess she was trying to make a point, but the point is lost when you lie about it.

I dont know if me not caring annoyed them, I dont understand the following interaction at all. The entire dungeon, endless complaining about tank being too slow, tank needing to speed up. Blah blah blah, and mid-fight with the final boss, they type something like (words may be out of order) "as healer main, I go the pace of the tank" and I just...

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

They realized they were being shitty and instead of owning up to it, pulled out some pretzel level logic in order to justify themselves when they realized you weren't going to absolve their actions. Frankly after having a friend come and complain to me about this exact same issue today, though they were PLD not DRK, it's an honest wonder any tank mains survive till end game. And all over what? A few extra minutes spared? That /totally/ justifies harassing a newbie and trying to kick them out of outdated content. TOTALLY. /S

I hope you reported them... What they were doing almost certainly qualifies as some sort of harassment.

Behavior aside, and while unfortunate for the new tank, this is a legit kick IMO.

At the end of the day, this is a team game. Everyone but the tank wanted a faster pace. As teammates in a team activity, you have every right to request the tank increase the pace.

This isn't all that different from kicking a healer that refuses to heal large pulls or kicking a dps that refuses to AoE. At some point, they just aren't being team players.

It certainly wasnt as unanimous as you think, but I understand that forcing everyone to go slower is not team play. Neither is harassing him, and that seems the bigger crime. He was just nervous, not intentionally trolling them with small pulls. It seemed overblown, the drama they were making, especially since there was a nice bonus in it for us if we'd just ground our teeth and stuck with it.

But I get it, it was close to reset, maybe they needed that last bit of Genesis, I dont know. My dander wouldnt be so fluffed if MNK hadnt been wearing that cursed crown. I wanted to rip it off their head.

I wouldnt go so far as reporting them, they werent using slurs or doing any sort of really cruel stuff - thats usually what I save reports for, but I wish I could give them a bad mark, a demerit. Anything. Seeing other Mentors behave that way is bothersome.

I kinda wondered before what the system would be like if you could lose commendations. Like if someone was really awful during a run but your group finished anyway, at the end instead of giving a +comm you could give a -comm. I'm sure people misusing it just to troll each other would be way too common to actually implement something like that, but after some painful dungeons I just really wish it were a thing.

I stayed up all night, starting to doze off, joined a party to learn a skill. Die, accidentally, dont learn the skill, they respawn the thing again, I screwed up again because I'm not paying attention, so they (god bless them) spawn it a third time, and being level 41 and only using 1k needles to deal damage I use that and screw up the thing again out of habit of only using this attack for mob grinding and then they leave thinking I'm a troll. Fair thought on their part, but now I'm just tired and upset with myself.

Nasty behavior, especially being rude and disruptive to a new player, is absolutely reportable. The crowns we wear aren't decoration; when you become a mentor whether it's via battle or via being an omnicrafter you're held to a higher social standard than those without the crown. A standard we agree to when we get the crown. That's the whole point of the system; to significant knowledgeable and safe people for those who need help to come to and rely on.

Report shitty mentors and eventually they'll get their crown taken away.

I've tried to explain to people that you can also get self destruct in Haukke Manor from the boss bomb add and cutters cry on the way to the boss. But people are dense dood. "But teh wiki doesn't say that" well the wiki isn't 100% on everything especially on new content.

You have to go to HM and CC anyways for abilities so throwing a fit over people you can't control isn't going to get you closer to what you want.

You can also pick it up from the bomb enemies in Halatali, which is easy to solo up to the first boss just by leaning heavily on 1,000 Needles and Acorn Bomb.
