The WoL/WoD needs to find a third option and it seems that option will require changing something in the past, 'rewriting history'.

A small but important correction: the Voice doesn't say history is to be "rewritten", but "unwritten".

This tragedy... must be undone.

If history must be unwritten, then let it be unwritten.

That doesn't suggest a "changing the past" plot to me, it suggest that we've ended up in a "bad future" that's so broken it (allegedly) cannot be saved, and so (we are told) we will have to unwind time to the point that we can take a different path.

But then we're hearing this from all this from an unidentified voice in a story where the villains are inclined to manipulate the heroes into furthering their complex cosmic goals, in a trailer designed to manipulate our predictions of what might happen!


Until we at least know the speaker's identity and context, anything the Voice says - or Voices, if the 'dark vision' in 4.4 was not from the same person speaking in the trailer - should be considered to have an "OR SO THEY CLAIM" attached to the end of it.


Also - I said in the original Fan Fest discussion - I'm not sure that the idea of undoing and wiping out a timeline really fits with what we've seen in the story so far. I feel like there's a theme that the past cannot be changed but people have to keep moving forward and make what they can of it.

If there's a "third option" we need to find somewhere, I think it's going to be inbetween "time must be unwound" and "no hope left in this future".
