I wouldn’t want them to do that. I appreciate “not rolling” falling somewhere lower than Greed but above locking yourself out of getting the item if nobody actively wants it.

Obviously I’m not going to do it at the end of the dungeon when people are waiting to leave, but I’ve sometimes deliberately not rolled on items mid-dungeon because of this. I don’t need it, I don’t want it enough to roll Greed (and potentially win over someone who wants it but can’t Need), but I’d like it if it’s going to end up on the floor otherwise.

I typically make a sarcastic remark like, "Whelp. Time to watch Youtube." And that usually gets people to roll. Basically, call their bluff outright but don't come across annoyed or they may stick it out thinking you'll be annoyed enough to leave. Doing /sit also helps as that pretty much announces you'll wait out the five minutes.

Ah yeah, I didn't think about mid-dungeon loot. I've gotten pretty good at rolling on this stuff on the go so I don't miss a step, but sometimes I do forget to roll when I see a squirrel. An oversight on my part. I forgot how easy it is for players to just simply forget to roll. At the end of an instance though, I feel it is just being respectful of everyone's time to cast your lot on the goodies.

I am in huge favour of this... either that or the Devs implement a dialogue box that lets the whole party view who has rolled and who hasn't, just like in FFXI.

Weird... I was just posting about that earlier.

Only if you still get a chance to roll if you're the only person left in the dungeon/timer hasn't run out. Ppl in roulettes will frequently ditch as soon as the exit appears and if you haven't had a chance to [watch cutscenes/compare loot/check inv] and haven't rolled since then I don't want to just lose it.

If people have to afk suddenly, it's fine. RL takes priority over any game. I also understand why people do this purposely, because it DOES increase one's chances if people are impatient. It's still a jerk move though and a waste of other peoples' time. If it's something I want and I rolled decently I will wait out the timer. If I rolled in the 10s or 20s I will typically just leave before this becomes a problem.

Part of the problem is that the current system in raids encourages people to not roll. I.e., there are four pieces dropped in 012N and each person can only win one for the week. Rolling on the two cranks and the spring you don't want while holding off on rolling for the shaft you do want has a chance of decreasing your competition--if three party members win the two cranks and the spring you didn't want, that's three less people whose rolls you have to compete against for the shaft. Given that you don't roll against yourself, your chances just went from ~one against seven to now ~one against four. The system can, in some cases, deliberately reward not rolling.

I try not to do or think about it this way, but you can bet after the 13th (14th, 15th...) time in a row of doing a fight with no drop, I start to reconsider clicking that roll button right away...

auto kick after 1 minute? that's barely enough time for a quick pee, except maybe when you skip the part where you are washing your hands... :O

the loot timer could be reduced, 5 minutes is indeed more time than we need, but i am strictly against any sort of auto kick. the party should decide if a person gets kicked or not. just consider the tank has to be afk for 2 - 3 mins - happy fun requeing, i bet the dps jobs will love that auto kick feature.

this idea punishes the wrong people and doesn't solve anything.

So seven other humans need to wait for you to run off and handle your business because you could not spend an additional 20 seconds to roll for loot?

As Seddrinth said above, anyone would understand an emergency... that's absolute standard. But this?
