Final Fantasy XIV have very few maintenances. Sure with new content it's not unusual but certainly not unexpected. Personally I'm happy they address the issues so quickly.

No complaints about response time but i believe some of these problems could have been prevented altogether not all but some. either way the clock on the time we pay for never stops ticking.

My boyfriend and I have very little time to play, when we do want to play lately the game has been down. The only reason we actually have time is bc we are on vacation. Tonight was my last night to play for a while and I was super stoked esp with the last few days/nights being off limits. You can imagine our disappointment when we saw that the servers were down yet again. People say that this hardly ever happens but actually the last time I unsubbed for a good while was bc I was gone a lot and when I finally had time to get online, it was under maintenance pretty much every other night. All I'm suggesting is for SQ to do what most other games do so as to reduce the annoyance. Many of us give them a lot of our time and quite a bit of our money so we'd like to play. That's not unreasonable.

Oo I am not angry. I just say what I think. In the meanwhile you could play for hours and have fun.

In regards to the OP, EVE doesn't have nearly the same population as post-patch FFXIV (considering how many people resubscribe for the first month of patches, it's hard to determine just how many people would consistently be online this week) and their servers don't get hammered nearly as hard in the first week or two after a new patch. The Emergency Maintenance last night was likely to try to resolve issues in instances of lag and disconnects. Many in my free company were rubberbanding, lagging out, or getting kicked off completely while trying to do Grubal (Hard), Xelphatol, Syrcus Tower, and Sophia EX.
