Right, and I feel the same way about the Lightning gear. I hate the Snow set and will likely never use any piece besides the boots, but would use Lightning's in a heartbeat. Especially bewildering considering Light's outfit is a uniform, with an existing male design (basically the same outfit but with pants). The skorts are cute, but I'd be very happy with a pants variant for guys.

I look at it as the thing that a number of folks are asking for. The argument about how if SE doesn't want to do unisex, then at least release the same amount of male-only equips. Grass is greener and envy sort of perspectives. Likewise, even with the unisex look, there's going to be variants, and chances are, someone is going to want the variant they don't have access to (if not just for the fact that they don't have access to it). No matter what happens of this whole ordeal, a group of people are content/happy, a group of people are unhappy.

I would also prefer pants instead of the skirt, I think my Elezen looks better with pants...

Instead of complaining about gender locked gear, you should be asking for equal amounts of gear for both genders.

....Which many of us already are. I know I have, and I also know I'm not the only one. Yes, for most people (agreeing with these types of threads, that is) the wish to have more unisex options is the primary request, with the 'at least make things even' being a... well... grudging compromise.

Though either would (at least for most people) be a sufficient solution, I think the reason many prefer the "everything unisex" version being that it avoids any future arguments over whether equivalent sets are actually equivalent.

For instance, when they brought out the Scion gear on the Mog Station, there were an equal number of outfits, but Minfilia was the only unique one, the others being essentially copies of other gear already in the game, so some people thought males got shortchanged there. Counting by the number of items, though, the fact that that Minfilia set was badly designed as a single piece that couldn't be mixed and matched like the male versions could, led others to think females were the ones getting shortchanged.

The Lightning/Snow sets are another good example. Both genders got a set, but there was no clear reason for either set to relate to what gender the character was. (Lightning's was a military uniform worn in the original game by both genders, and Snow's was a trenchcoat, shirt and pants.) Plenty of people were unhappy in both directions, not because females got more than males or vice versa, but because they couldn't' get the set that they personally liked the best.

Making all gear unisex avoids those issues. They wouldn't have to worry about whether corresponding gear was equivalent enough, or whether its differences would lead people to be upset at the other gender getting the version they want themselves.

Really though? I get a lot of you want "equality" but has anyone stopped to think that, that's not the type of game they're leaning for - guys dressed as girls.

But very few of the people asking for this want guys dressed as girls. The spring dress, for instance, is hardly ever mentioned except when counting the total number of differences. The differences that people actually bring up this issue over are items which are inexplicably tied to being worn only by female characters even though they'd work just as well for men. They're not female items in terms of being feminine. What makes them "female" items is the fact that SE locked them to being equipped only by that gender.

As far as I'm concerned, they're welcome to leave the Spring Dress as female only, provided that males could wear the bunny crown, Thavnairian Bustier set, and some of these inexplicable one-offs like the gloves from the Expeditioner's set.

Some of the male/female restricted items baffle me. Such as gloves and headpeices.

If they would just take care of those ones, which don't seem to have any purpose, neither in terms of graphical adjustments needed to fit the models, nor in offending people's view of what males shouldn't wear, it would go a long way towards calming the furor of these arguments. Ideally I'd like for everything to be equal, but in the meantime, they can't even give us the fool bunny ears and they add a new restriction on gloves of all things. Why???

What's exactly wrong this time? I'll assume this was because of the Little Ladies Day event because of the time this was made.

It was the 3.2 update which offered Expeditioner's Gloves to females only. At least the rest of the outfit is equal, but nobody seems to understand why males were excluded from getting the gloves to go with it. (They're not even particularly feminine looking, nor would male and female models differ enough in their hands to account for the genderlocked gloves.)

It's a more minor offence against equal access to gear than some of their previous patches, but it's still yet another example in the same direction as every previous difference.

I'm all for the removal of gender locked gear. It wouldn't be the first time a Final Fantasy game has introduced cross dressing. Aside from that, I agree, we have too many female-only items coupled with unisex items. It'd be one thing if it was an equal number of female-only and male-only items, but players who play male characters are being punished for their choice. "Punish," might be a bit of hyperbole, but it is no less fitting.

I can't tell if you are serious or not but I kind of agree a bit. Healers should be restricted to female characters and dps / tanks restricted to males.
