About the mobs in the World of Darkness

I suppose this has already be answered, but here goes:

I always thought it was obvious, but now I am not too sure. In the World of Darkness, we see the Clone Xande, Scylla and the lesser mobs from Syrcus Tower (except of Amon) in there.

I always thought that due to the covenant between Xande and Cloud of Darkness that people (their souls) in the Tower would be bound to serve her in the Void; hence why they're all there.

But now I am not too sure. Is that how they're covenant worked? Where they simply Voidsent pretending to be them/ have their appearance?

The Cloud of Darkness aims to consume as much of the corporeal as possible, even if its the aether of the presently-living. Xande's covenant was that he would be able to harness the power and entities of the void in exchange for "sacrifices" until he was able to throw open the voidgate wide enough to allow her through to eat everything.

Now, say you're Xande. You are the product of cloning technology (corporeally, at least), so obviously this cloning technology is pretty good. Who are you going to feed to the void? Your soldiers? Your children? Your royalty? Your citizens? ... Or a whole bunch of clones and bioweapons?

That's pretty much what we're seeing, as far as I know.

"Time to feed the void!" <throws a few clones down the chute>

They're clones offered in sacrifice as part of the Voidgate project, I think is what MCKF has said about them. Depending on how you look at it, it's either a sign of how horrifyingly unethical the Allagans were, creating life for the sole purpose of dying; or a sign of Amon's pragmatism, a way he found to appease Xande without plucking sacrifices, willing or otherwise, from the general populace.

THIS POST WAS MADE BEFORE MOOSE'S EDIT, ALRIGHT.

Ah ok. The sacrificed parts make sense since we do see plenty of Sacrificed ___; it just never occurred to me that Clone of Xande mob we fight was another Clone of Xande and not the cloned Xande that revitalized the Allag empire.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Xande we fight isn't a clone, since he was actually exhumed from his crypt in Mor Dhona. I believe cloning branched off from Amon's resurrection research, but the Xande on the throne is the genuine article.

I think it's kind of like how people with entirely too much money have their heads cryo-preserved so that they can be defrosted and brought back in The Future™. He died, but was preserved in a way that he could be brought back later. So they did.

That's a fair point. Phlegethon was augmented and then clones (Acherons) were made of from that. I had assumed that Xande was cloned from his remains and then augmented using the same technology used on Phlegethon and Scylla, but it could have just been his original, preserved remains. If you have the original, though, using it for anything seems like a big risk - but maybe to truly restore something it has to be done; maybe that's why there were so many tests to begin with.

I thought the Xande we encountered wasn't the Xande, but rather the result of the perfected cloning. Reason I say this is I swear I remember reading from Rammbroes "teaching/recap" notes that Amon wanted to, and did, clone Xande from his remains within a new body.

And yes, as said, the things we see at the top of Syrcus Tower in High Allagan gear, and those in the World of Darkness were clones used to uphold the covenant and feed aether to the Void/Cloud of Darkness (?).

Well, original body or no, the memories were transferred a little too perfectly into the new host. "Though the body may perish, the spirit lives on," and all that. What we fought wasn't Copy Rezo with a complex about surpassing his original, but a Xande who remembered his own death and still considered himself the genuine article.

I thought the Xande we fight in ST was the real deal. From what I remembered, Xande did die, but Allagan SCIENCE brought him back to life, which caused him to see life as completely meaningless because he knows he could die again and nothing he did or created would go with him.

Yeah, I'm not too sure about the state of Xande's body could have been, it's still possible to take out a person's aether/soul from the lifestream and put it into a body, especially if it's the original.

This was seen in the lv 50 ALC quest. To a lesser extent A-Towa Cant via his soul stone. I think it was mentioned that that they could have stayed longer if they had more aether.

In fact, Xande being resurrected pretty much means that a person's "soul" remains in the lifestream and can be called about with the right tools
