They specifically rely on the power of a given, summoned Voidsent to power their spells, with all the perils this entails. They're analogous to Warcraft Warlocks in that regard.

Black Magery draws on a combination of Hydaelyn's ambient aether and some of the ambient aether/power of The Void Beyond to power its spells, without necessarily invoking a voidsent directly. Though the thaumaturges of Ul'dah sure to love poking around the Void a bunch...

Finally got to do it, and holy crabs, did I underestimate Mhachi tech...

... all I really got to say. It is indeed a relic from the War of the Magi (though we were already fairly certain of that), and for the first time ever, has absolutely nothing to do with the Allagans.

It actually makes sense that Qarn ended up being founded by Mhachi survivors since they (or at least those in high ranks) predicted that an Umbral Era would occur.

So with all the information we have I guess it's safe to assume the mystery of the War of Magi is more or less concluded based on all the info we have?

    1. Mhachi instigated the war
    2. Nym fell victim to Mhachi scheme via Tonberry disease (caused by a powerful Voidsent) by using their southern seas Lalafell agents
    3. Amdapor fell due to Diabolos
    4. They built the Void Ark to escape the impending Calamity, but was ultimately scrapped due to uncontrollable Voidsent
    5. ???
    6. Great Flood

I'm sure there's information in between as to how and why thing happened they way it did, but that seems to be the gist of the war and it's probably not as simple as I laid out.

For one thing, there could very well be a twist like the whole sil'hih vs Ul'dah war.

I don't think Nym actually fell. We don't really know details on the fate of Nym after they sealed all the Tonberries into the Wanderer's Palace and I'm betting that what the Tonberries thought was Nym trying to drown them was the 6th Umbral Calamity. I still suspect (and hope) that like the Mhachi, the Nymian attempted something reckless to escape the floods and the disaster of Aetheric Air that destroyed the city was their attempt to lift the city into the sky.

Ill admit half of the reason Im going with this city is Im hoping one of the future raids in this cycle is the Ruins of Nym, sky island style. Plus, if who would have better magics to counter Mhachi seals than one of their enemies.

A thing on the Void Ark. It's interesting to note that technologically the issue the Mhachi had was power. Their magic was tailored to destruction and it was volatile. In many ways the Void Ark is a failed technology, because while the Airship did fly, the 'power source' needed to keep it aloft killed everyone on board.

After a bit of digging I realized the Cessair (architect of VA)is another Irish mythological figure:

According to the Lebor Gabála, she was the leader of the first inhabitants of Ireland, before the Biblical Flood... Cessair was daughter of Noah's (non-Biblical) son ... In some versions of the tale, Noah tells them to go to the western edge of the world to escape the oncoming Flood. In other versions, when their people are denied a place on Noah's Ark, Cessair tells them to make an idol to advise them. This idol tells them to escape the Flood by sailing to Ireland. They set out in three ships and reach Ireland after a long journey. However, when they attempt to land, two of the ships are lost. The only survivors are Cessair, forty-nine other women, and three men
It's interesting how the borrowed alot for that aforementioned myth. Makes me wonder if the next stage of the Void saga will be filled with Irish mythological figures? Since we have Scathac, Cu Calain, Cait Sith, Ferdiad perhaps

Here's a funny thought: what if Cessair is a descendant of the Alagan Noah, too. If the Darnus family and G'raha has Allagan blood, not too hard to believe it survived in the Mhachi.

If Voidark will be a 3tier dungeon raid like CT was, I have a few suspicions about the theme of the next ones.

Since Voidark revolves around Diabolos/Voidsent Queen, etc, wouldn't it be cool if the next area is Jade Passage, the passage to Hell, and the final area is Castle Pandaemonium, the palace of Hell--both from Final Fantasy II.

    Bosses could include:

    Beelzebub
    Astaroth

Emperor Mateus could be the King of Voidsent

The theme of Pandaemonium sounds epic, more so than CT/WoD did I think:

It is likely going to be a 3-tier raid like the Crystal Tower was, but we were told this isn't going to be an homage raid to a previous title in the way said Crystal Tower was.

While I agree it would be kind of cool (even having not played II), I don't think it's likely.

But does that mean they will bring back the Pandemonium Warden from XI as a boss? Or possibly another version of Hades either as a place or demonic voidsent .

That would actually be pretty neat. Pandaemonium Warden is legendary in his own right and actually forced SE to change their policies. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a 24-man boss, just for the sake of a reference.

Regarding Hades in a FFXI context:
I didn't consider this while actually playing SoA's storyline, but damn if Hades basically isn't the FFXI version of an Ascian.
