That is by far the saddest thing I've read. Why would anyone want to half arse it through their hobby? But then again, we give awards to people just for trying so we don't hurt anyones feelings.

I compare this to for an example soccer. Some play to be good and might even dream of a career doing it, while others just play around and don't really care to be the best as long as they are enjoying it. We all have our own way of enjoying things, can't really tell anyone that he/she's wrong.

I'll never for the life of me understand what's so enjoyable about failing repeatedly or knowing the only reason you succeeded is because everyone else carried you on their back. And yet, so many people are content with doing just that. It boggles the mind.I compare this to for an example soccer. Some play to be good and might even dream of a career doing it, while others just play around and don't really care to be the best as long as they are enjoying it. We all have our own way of enjoying things, can't really tell anyone that he/she's wrong.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

I did not necessary mean that people enjoy failing. I meant that people might not all be hardcore players, but more casual (maybe casual casuals) and not strife to do top dps all the time, for an example. Just play and do Good, not Best.
I have a hard time believing that anyone enjoys failing over and over. But we all know there are trolls out there. But I doubt this (OP) was it.

FATE leveling is the key here.
It generates undergeared and unskilled players that don't understand their jobs because they use 1 or 2 abilities / spells and don't face themselves to any mechanic at all.
PS. Mind you, FATEs are fine. FATE leveling on the other hand...

To be fair this isn't a good example to be honest... if you're going to use soccer you'd have to say something like this:I compare this to for an example soccer. Some play to be good and might even dream of a career doing it, while others just play around and don't really care to be the best as long as they are enjoying it. We all have our own way of enjoying things, can't really tell anyone that he/she's wrong.
Some people may play soccer in their backyards or at the park by themselves, some play to be decently skilled and some don't really care and just wish to kick the ball around because they enjoy doing so, and this in-itself is fine.
Until they join a soccer team.
The team has a standard of skill they require to join and they play against others (content) in order to win, but if you have one player on the team not really caring about their performance or playing together with the other team members and the team continuously loses games, that players is likely to either bring down team morale and be reprimanded, or cut from the team entirely.
See the difference?
The issue is that content in this game is designed in such a way in that it takes a team effort to complete. Everyone needs to be able to perform their roles and the level of proficiency required varies from content to content.
If you are the player on the team that is repeatedly under-performing while the rest of the team is trying their hardest to clear, and your attitude is that you just don't care because you want to have fun kicking the ball around, do you think that's fair to the other 7 players who are putting forth effort?
Players are free to do whatever they wish in solo or low person content, but if you join a party (team) for content that needs a certain level of performance, it's not surprising if the party expects you to play up to that level.

I was actually thinking about editing that example of the soccer team, but I thought "people will understand". Guess I was wrong.
If you want a "soccer" team that will perform to 110%, do a Party Finder. Duty Finder is more of the Backyard have fun game. Well, not really. ofc DF is ment for a quick way to find a party to complete the duty. But there will always be the risk that you will get people that don't know how to complete it.

I'm sorry but that isn't how the Duty Finder is advertised in the game, in fact the game prioritizes the duty finder as a means for players to clear content, it's why things like expert/hard/trail roulette have rewards as an incentive for players to come back and help others clear.
The attitude that the Duty Finder is a mess around testing ground is only on the NA servers, it's actually considered the opposite on the JP data centers where the idea is that party finder is there for you to grab friends and mess around, but when you join parties in the duty finder the mentality is that you're there to complete the content.
EDIT: you edited your post, but theres a difference in the expectation of people learning the fight and the reality of people just plain not really trying at all, your comments about the "backyard fun" part imply more of the latter, if that's not your intention just know it's how it appears.

I agree. It is funny how they actually manage things that take so little time to feel like such a grind in this game. It isn't as grindy as many old school MMORPGs in reality, but honestly they just do a much much poorer job at hiding the grind. This especially applies to endgame and its endless tome grind which is amongst the worst I've seen. I saw another thread on the front page which said the tome cap should be removed and I agree with that too. Not because of anything other than that if anyone can actually stand grinding more tomes in a week than the current cap, without gouging their own eyes out or even killing themselves, they deserve to have more items. SE has done a good job with many things in this game, but their endgame update and progression systems are one of the most horrible on the whole market. Which is saying something because this is an MMO after all.
