To be fair this isn't a good example to be honest... if you're going to use soccer you'd have to say something like this:

Some people may play soccer in their backyards or at the park by themselves, some play to be decently skilled and some don't really care and just wish to kick the ball around because they enjoy doing so, and this in-itself is fine.

Until they join a soccer team.

The team has a standard of skill they require to join and they play against others (content) in order to win, but if you have one player on the team not really caring about their performance or playing together with the other team members and the team continuously loses games, that players is likely to either bring down team morale and be reprimanded, or cut from the team entirely.

See the difference?

The issue is that content in this game is designed in such a way in that it takes a team effort to complete. Everyone needs to be able to perform their roles and the level of proficiency required varies from content to content.

If you are the player on the team that is repeatedly under-performing while the rest of the team is trying their hardest to clear, and your attitude is that you just don't care because you want to have fun kicking the ball around, do you think that's fair to the other 7 players who are putting forth effort?

Players are free to do whatever they wish in solo or low person content, but if you join a party (team) for content that needs a certain level of performance, it's not surprising if the party expects you to play up to that level.
