    Content Suggestion: The Adventurer's City

    This is just a suggestion meant for a long, long time in the future.

    So as you well know, Revenant's Toll keeps expanding with every content patch. So much so that, in 2.0, the entire area was just a bunch of random tents. Now, the area has really exploded. There's an Adventurer's Guild, a fortress is currently being built, and there are really no signs of slowing.

    Would there be a way for players to take advantage of this rapid expansion and move in their own homes and businesses into Revenant's Toll? Have it be a living, breathing city by Adventurers for Adventurers?

    I'm not necessarily sure how it would be implemented, and I'll probably get greeted with the token "This guy's a Balmung player trying to get more RP stuff." and that's... not necessarily wrong. I've just been grazing the surface of a new MMO called ArcheAge and while this game would have a lot of difficulty coming even remotely close to that level of player control, it would be nice to have a taste of that.

    I believe they're already planning on making Revanent's Toll into a proper city like Ul'dah, Gridania, and Limsa. The skybridge you can see is a pretty good indication for a second level to the city, they already have a staircase that goes up there that may indicate it a zone line (though it's blocked by scaffolding). In the expansion, I believe we'll have 2 new proper city states available to us: Ishgard and Revanent's Toll (or whatever it may be renamed to).

    Perhaps we'll also get new guilds in both since I recall people saying there will be several new jobs in 3.0 (I do hope they aren't just rumors, I don't have the sources). Maybe two or 3 new class guilds in Ishgard and Rev Toll.

    Pretty sure that is the direction it's headed although I do enjoy your suggestion of housing I think that would be kind of neat.

    My only concern for this type of content is that it has the potential to run into the problems Campaign did in FFXI. Past a certain point in the game's life a part of the content became inaccessible since it required player participation and players weren't participating because they're doing other content. The main question is "where do we draw the line?".

    I can see for example goods in Rowena's shop being determined by turn ins and daily quests complete by adventurers on your server. Maybe additional side-content (as in additional ways to get tomes and allied seals) becoming available when participation hits a certain level.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

    I'd love to see Rev's Toll with residential areas that could lead to private apartment-style housing. Instanced, of course, sort of like housing was in Anarchy Online. Would be kind of neat to have shops, too, but there's no real way to do that without having giant shopping wards, like what was in 1.0... and those were a nightmare, from everything I've seen.

    The apartment-style housing was just what I was thinking of. Housing areas that are the size of small houses, cost a fraction of the price of small houses, and don't have any "outside furnishing" options. As for the giant shopping wards, I completely hear you there. I wasn't even sure what I was trying to convey with this idea, exactly. Just more of a player-run society kinda thing.

    We needn't even go THAT far. What could be done instead is just turning in Tomestones for "Rowena's Token (City)" at, say... 1 token per 50 Tomestones, and those tokens could be vouchers for special kinds of vanity gear that unlock at tiers depending on how many tomestones are donated in a week, then the "Rowena's Token (City)" items could be used to buy those special items. The Token items wouldn't expire, but getting enough people to donate, say... 100,000 tomestones in six days? That could be a real challenge and i. (It'd take 223 players donating their entire weekly limit of tomestones to reach the 100k rewards, and they'd be accessible all week). That'd be interesting, especially when everyone's already spent tomestones on their endgame-gear-of-the-patch.

    This is a cool idea. I really love how over the patches, Revenant's Toll is shaping up as Eorzea's adventurer HQ. Viewed from afar, it's got a really cool, assertive castle skyline too. I'd at least love the chance to barracks up somewhere in it.

    The problem with a city of adventurers, of course, has already been alluded to in the main storyline... where does the coin come from? Where does the food come from? If the only product you have to offer is renting out the bodies of your citizens, that's not exactly a long-term viable solution.
