It requires some finesse and fast playing, but doable. Then I usually follow up with Flash if it's spread damage AOEs like Fire II, or Quick Nock.

Shield Swipe doesn't actually interrupt combos as far as I can tell. I could weave one in after Savage Blade and still get the combo bonus on Halone.

    From what I've seen:

    1) The Tank is a fairly new player to either FFXIV, or MMOs in general and doesn't know the class or their skills very well.

Helping these players without yelling at them from the start will go a long way in encouraging them to stick with it. We all sucked at our roles the first time we try something new. You just have to give them time.

    2) The Tank is an idiot and does whatever he wants regardless of your help.

Unfortunately, there's a lot of these right now. People will argue with you regardless of what your or them know. If they think they're always right, let them die.

    3) The DPS is an idiot and does whatever they want.

This is the bigger problem. I've been on runs where as soon as the tank initiates, the DPS facerolls then cries when they have mobs on them. Common courtesy: give the tank 2-3 seconds to build threat, then attack whatever his or her focus is. You won't pull threat if the tank knows what they're doing.

exactly, what up till this point does a tank in this game get the where with all to know how to tank? pretty much solo leveling, bust a rock here, bust a boulder there..

people gotta realize solo leveling is just killing with no rhyme or reason,it's not teaching one their role.the main purpose for this is to get the tools you need so one can have the ability to actually do their jobs.Expecting one to just know what they are doing on their first big boss team fight is ludicrous.

this is why raiding falls apart, try giving more positive advise so one can learn a job, rather than just assuming everyone in your group was born playing their role/job

Blame the low challenge in normal Quest up to 35, only thing we know is attack, attack, attack, attack. I never use Buff or Provoke during encounter. So when i something get challenging and out of control *Panic mode*.

Q'd df last night for toto as arcanist, I got in the dungeon with 9 minutes left. The party I joined was on the last boss. With time about to run out I figured they probably died alot. I decide to follow through and see what was going on anyway. We enter the boss room and the tank was dead on about 15 seconds, true story.

Waiting an hour for df doesn't bother me, waiting an hour to be ported into that failure so I can exit and wait another hour pisssed me off a lil bit, lol.

if the game is barely a week old, and people are already crying about how 'bad' tanks are...I think the problem is probably not the tank. Also, this attitude is exactly why noone wants to tank or heal. They get all the blame, and none of the credit.

    ^^THIS.

As a primary damage dealer, I started out healing in WoW to try to help mu guild out, and it turned out I loved healing almost as much as dealing damage, and was just as good at it. However, I quickly discovered the deal about being a healer or tank; if something goes wrong in a raid or dungeon, the first thing people are likely to do is point the finger of blame at you. People like the OP of this thread are the reason the two roles are rarely picked by players. Grow up, really. Exercise a little patience.

Or cry more. That might work.

None of the credit? You ain't lying lol! But still I'm sure bad ones help the good ones stand out, as with all roles. It's just a bad Tank or Healer drags things down more then just a bad DPS.

I have noticed more bad DPS than bad tanks. I have seen tanks tell some DPS to attack the same mob s/he does. Yet they continue to try and solo their own mob. Leaving me scrambling about, healing their squishy tooshies and then spam curing the tank when s/he eats a big hit, and then I end up with the aggro. Gone are the days that made sense, when focusing on one mob meant it would die faster. Now, I guess it is all about seeing which DPS can kill it before the other.

Normally, I wouldn't mind having to scramble about. I like the rush of it, so I'm not left feeling bored. But when I'm called a "sloppy healer" or the tank is called bad because of the DPS, I have half a mind to just let the DPS die.
