ok is it me or is the crafting system a little screwed up?

ok for mining i will have my chance to getting what ever im farming at lik 78-83% but most of the time i will be lucky to get 1 out of 4 strikes when mining ore.. or i will get a bunch of times 0 out of 4....

also when crafting i will be like 10 lvls higher then what im makeing and then i will get 3 times in a row when trying to increase teh quality and it will explode........and i have my gear set up stat wise so most of the bonus stats from my gear is controll.

also when i have a item at 85% range for quailty i will get alot of the times a non high quality item when i finsh what im making

so is it just me or are other people notcing that the scale system is not right

For gathering, I think the % that you see is per hit not per node. So for example, if you have a 75% chance to get ore at that node, that doesn't mean you will be guaranteed 3/4 ores, that just means each time you hit, you roll a 100 sided die, if the the die comes up 1-75, you get an ore. I use my HQ abilities when I mine and get something like 50% HQ rate for ores, sometimes I get 4 NQs.

A coin flip can still come up heads 10 times in a row.

Just because it says 75% doesn't mean you're going to get 3 out of every 4.

This is known as the gambler's fallacy- expecting that you must get the desired result because you got the other result too many times.

Crafting tip: Unlike in 1.0, if Progress reaches 100% when the durability hits 0, you do succeed. In 1.0 the same situation would result in faliure.

There is nothing off about the random number generator. It's pure coincidence any time something happens a couple times in a row or not. This is a side effect of human perception. We think there's a conspiracy anytime we get some undesired (or desired) outcomes in a row and think that it's going against probability. You can't do like 5 or 10 actions and say "oh, i had 3 fails in a row on 90% action, RNG is broke fix it."

Change at strike and chance at high quality crafting are just that: chances, not guarantees. The better gear and better skills you get, and better awareness of how to use them, will improve your chances for getting the good stuff on either. I currently have a 50 GSM and 50 MIN, so I know about both on the leveling process. I know about the struggle to get HQ when you need it. But I love the successes, and the fight to succeed. You really should make an effort as a crafter to at least pick up most of the level 15 crafting skills. All crafts can be leveled 1-15 based solely on the materials found at the Guild Supplier. All of the products can be sold, either for gil to a vendor or on the MB.

Control actually doesn't affect the chances of your action succeeding, but instead affects the Quality you gain when you do succeed. It's weird since they changed what the stat does.

Humans are very biased when it comes to chance. We tend to remember all the outliers vividly (getting NQ with a 95% HQ chance) but then forget the times things went as we expected. It creates a skewed perspective, especially when things fall on the NQ side of things.

(0.2 ^ 3) * (4 choose 3) = 0.032 or 3.2% or 1/32 chance
In english, that's 20% chance failing 3 times in a row * different scenarios that it can happen. It will happen a lot when you are gathering/crafting thousands of items to level up.

0/4 isn't that uncommon either, (0.2 ^ 4) = 0.0016 or 1/625, you'll definitely see a few of these on your way to 50.

ok quick question .. how to i cut down the failers of increasing the quality of a item when crafting a item?

well i often have 98-99% succcess on an item when gathering and even then its typically 1 fail per node if not more. the % rates do seem off.

Your gear, for one, will help you with crafting. Tip #1: try to always wear the best gear you can for your level while crafting. Tip #2: Keep "Steady Hand" up when you are trying to improve quality, especially if you are using "Basic Touch", which has a 30% base chance of failing. "Steady Hand" decreases that to 10% chance of failing. And when you get 37 Culinary, you can decrease "Basic Touch" to have a 0 base chance of failure with Culinary's level 37 skill, "Steady Hand II".

Of course, there's also "Standard Touch", which has a 20% base chance of failure, but also costs 32 CP to use; simply put, you won't use this skill a whole lot until you've really mastered the when's/how's/why's of all the different crafting skills. You don't just spam, "Standard Touch" simply because you can :) You're wasting a heck of a lot of CP by doing that.

To reduce your chances of failing steps, you use Steady Hand or Steady Hand II.

Also be sure you're keeping an eye on the durability of the item you're crafting, (it'll be in the window that appears when you begin crafting an item) if that reaches 0, the item will break. Every step will remove 10 durability. You will get abilities like Master's Mend that will restore the durability of an item to prevent it from breaking.

Of course it's per hit( attempt) not for the whole node. Why would anyone look so deep and come to the other conclusion??

After leveling two crafting classes to 50 I do notice that the RNG seems a bit off. Generally touch fails/successes seems to happen in clusters and 0.16% patterns happen way too frequently. If there was a statistic addon that compiled peoples crafting actions I somehow think that a bell curve with really fat tails would emerge.
