Paladin & Warrior (or both?)

How many of you leveled warrior (or pld) just for the sake of having both tanking classes? Both wearing almost the same gear? Or is it pointless? Whats everyone's take?

I would prefer a PLD to be a tank and SE need to change War class to DPS class.

My play style makes me switch to both,

When i want to get into places im not familiar with or not very trusting of my party i pick PLD because it picks up a lot of slack.
When i know a boss/dungeon and trust my party I pick WAR.

its much more forgiving to make mistakes as a PLD, than a WAR. I feel like i'm much more engaged as a WAR trying to make sure my rotations are timed correctly.

Most gear is inter-changeable between PLD/WAR particularly the accessories. So it wont hurt your wallet too much since you'll spend most of your timing farming for mythologies anyway.

IMO I think if you want to be the best tank possible in this game id want to have both PLD/WAR accessible to you.

Take both, they cross-class with each other anyways. So you're missing out on opportunities if you don't raise both to some extent.

I've been wanting to ask some end game tanks out there. I'm planning to raise both pld and war very soon. As PLD should I only be raising VIT ? or STR and VIT ? And samr question for WAR I'm not sure which stat to focus on. If anyone can

I have a 50 PLD already and not working on my WAR, they both have their uses.

Also, VIT all the way for both PLD and WAR.

doesn't matter as much as people think it does

but in lower gear bad healers have less slack to work with, so you might notice the vit more

I'm pretty sure you dump str into war..as for pld I'm not sure but I'm dumping pure str stats into him as well

I leveled both to 50

I really like Warrior, but for some reason im just not very good at being a paladin even though I like having a sword and shield, I remember they said during beta sometimes that classes couldnt mix armors (no tanks wearing DPS gear etc) but if i could wear the warrior AF gear as a paladin using vanity slots... i would work tirelessly to master it x _ x

Got both to 50 and stacked VIT with both.

I prefer WAR. It's just more fun! PLD is pretty simple - keep hate and use defensive cool downs. But WAR has so much to think about while tanking!

I believe there's a big misconception about WAR which really ruins it for the people that know how to play the class to its full potential.

I have looked at paladin and warrior both. Yes Paladin seems superior in tanking high burst damage and big hits, but it feels like as a warrior - I have a greater variety of tools available.

I think playing a warrior makes you a better tank in the long run because you cant be lazy and stand AFK like a paladin. I think it makes you a better player, and in the long run (If/when balance patches are added) the warrior will end up the better tank. I theorycraft alot and again, despite Paladin being better now especially tanking endgame bosses - I think a good warrior will have alot better survivability and adaptability later on.

A bad and a good paladin wont show that much, a bad and a good warrior tanks shows alot more. That is why I find warrior satisfying and even if I cant tank endgame as a warrior (Which may or may not be true, bad people love to whine) I will stay true to warrior in good and bad times.

As you can see in my profile I'm both PLD and WAR 50, my favorite was Warrior, GLD seemed to boring in low levels.

After tanking Ifrit HM and some AK runs on Warrior I decided to try PLD, now my fav is PLD simply because with the same gear I can tank much better, staying on red stuff due to lag isn't so /panic anymore, and the general impression of people in pugs is that it is better.

Try PLD, I think you'll like it more end game.

I got my PLD to 50 and am farming the end-game currencies and working on my Relic. I like PLD and other people seem to like PLD.

WAR looks like A LOT more fun - currently have MRD to 25, and I have a lot of friends leveling slower than me in the 22-32 range, so I will be using my WAR to play with them, and then farming on my PLD. Its great to have an understanding of each class in the archetype (and you can share Darklight between them!).

PLD is my main, I'll probably finish lvling WAR to 50 just so I can have it though I have no real desire to actively work on 2 tanks.
With that being said BRD will probably be my secondary class.

If you want to be a real tank, do both. Sometimes WAR is preferred, sometimes PLD is. That may be less true after Crystal Tower is released, but since it's not here yet, and hence nobody has the gear from it, PLD is preferred for the highest tier content.

WAR all the way for me though I do have PLD maxed as well. Ever since I defeated Demon wall where our healer got pushed off after we nuked the bees and me and the other 2 dps were just barely living. I was staying alive with IB and Blood bath. I have to admit playing WAR is a lot more intense and thrilling than PLD. If you want to show off your tanking skills WAR is the class.

I'm level a warrior eventually. I pretty much flipped a coin to choose between warrior/paladin with no real preference for either. I've always enjoyed mitigation tanks but warriors more aggressive play style may be interesting.

Personally I think player skill/experience matter more than class.
