I am happy with what FFXIV is but these changes to make it match like FFXI ie the battle system pretty much kills FFXIV unique style.

Other FF games had their own style of game play and not one is a exact match, with exceptions of earlier ones.

Once auto-battle get in might as well go square-one and make auto-crafting too....

crafting almost follow the same principle of the current battle system.

For those who was on FFXI and decided to try WoW they didnt complain on the battle system they went with it so what is so hard on doing the same and go with the current battle system. A bit of a challenge to many, dumb for some, just right for the few.

FFXIV was made to be unique from the others not a follow-on or upgrade from FFXI....not unless you want to call this FFXI-2.....lame

While I agree with this, we don't know how auto-attack or the new battle system as a whole is going to be implemented. True the same guy is behind XIV's battle as XI's but I'm hoping he strives to do something better and not just use what worked in XI.

I definitely want this game to be different in a large variety of ways from XI though.

And they wont give us any updates on what their current plans with it is. It's makin everyone that like and understand the current methods of combat skeptical about the path they are taking. They did say auto-attack is going to be a lot faster than in XI, and I hope they keep their word on that. I still don't think it is a bit necessary.

I agree. This game uniqueness must be protected regardless of how much playerbase complain. Every FF had its own face...its like FFXIII...people bash that game like crazy...but it had some historical salles and i bet its sequel WILL sell just as much!

Right now i'm in "Standby mode", waiting Akihiko Matsui start posting about the battle system like was said at letter IX. Because auto-attack does can be effectively used in the current battle system so i want to see how it will be used and what's the other changes the battle team has in mind.

However, after his 3 comments (completely unfortunate ones...he's just as bad as Tanaka was when come to commenting features) that list auto-attack, time-based skills combos and "2hrs abilities" really leaves the taste that it will be a copy/paste battle system from a "certain" old, almost dead MMO. Hopefully they will copy the anniversary ring aswell! =P

I want the game to be unique, but not uniquely terrible.

current battle system is weak, cureall should be a separate spell not a an AOE button (and jeese, attract more hate, its cureall for gods sake)..... Auto attack is better then button mashing, I'm getting tendinitis. It doesn't have to be the exact same but it could be based on a system (like ffxi's) that already WORKS. No need to build trash for the sake of uniqueness.

The current battle system is awesome. It was just terribly implemented during beta overhaul. I'm sure it can become extremely effective after some ("lot" might fit better) of tweaks.

Have not seen anything worser than this i really hope for big changes.

The way to Rank 50 in FFXIV feels like a boring repeating work without joy.

The way to lvl 50 in FFXI was an adventure with fun and joy excitement.

Server population pretty good shows how good it is.

if the combat as we have it now was really unique i would agree 100% but just becasue you have to press 11111 as the standard attack and the rest is like most mmos handle it... doenst make it unique. Its a copy form other existing games with the bad 1111 touch. AOC at least spiced this standard-mmo-system up a bit. But ffxiv didnt in one bit.

And since they seem to lack direction and creativity (lest hope its just because the lack of communication skills though)
they try to get the game closer to ffxi since that was pretty successeful compared to the majority of mmos.
Poor choice but the combat system atm is worse so i rather have a ffxi copy then the current system.

I would welcome a complete change something REALLY new and creative. But seeing the implementation of NMS (done like ffxi) the character models (done like ffxi) spell names (done like ffxi) 3 starter cities (done like ffxi) jobs/classes (almost the same as ffxi just less creative)... i doubt well see a big change in a new direction.

I really liked the different battle systems of the ff series and the only reason why people asking so much for ffxi-like changes is, that it is better in many cases, even if its not creative. They wouldnt compare it to ffxi if ffxiv wasnt copied in so many ways from ffxi. The few changes compared to ffxi are usually just not-implemented functions, but not different ones. they copied ffxi and left 80% of the good things and essentials out without a proper replacement.

A good game need tactics and abilities take starcraft for example it same maps all the time but the battles the tactic make the game awsome you have to be alert all the time and work try new things to win adjust your building order check the opponent.

I wanna see the Guildleaves like that maybe another behest version where people PVP in groups to each other for experience points something fun.

Think a event you group up to fight other 1v1 2v3 - 8v8 10-20 min match both sides awarded in experience points after match maybe you can arrange linkshell vs linkshell also

Another good game also almost same maps X com Ufo Defence a great game amazing with tactics and fun.

Most importent is get the felling of joy of the moment i think i wanna have that felling when ranking up.

Granted but its a first in the FF mmo world so it still stand that FFXIV current battle system is unique in FF world.

Just to chime in, the new auto attack handled system isnt going to be an exact copy of XI, that much should be obvious. No Final Fantasy game, regardless how similar the battle system, is exactly the same. Its most likely going to be faster, and have a few extra combat/control nuances that set it apart.

I'm still expecting auto-attack to be "togglable" on/off. however, seeing weapons are already bringing speed values (from last patch data mining i saw in some forums) i'm pretty sure stanmina might be removed for good...which is bad IMO...i'd love to see stanmina just expanded into a real "battle fatigue system" (oh noes! I used the forbbiden word! ><) instead of removed...it would even be a nice way to trigger overpower skills (AKA FFXI 2hrs)...just imagine like those action animes (like dragon ball Z) where the dude take some beating for a while for only when really tired he beig able to use his trumph card.

TiberiusAugustus, yes it's a Final Fantasy game, but it is also an MMORPG, and its competitors are all other MMORPGs. Please don't kid yourself by thinking that ability cooldowns are somehow unique or innovative in that space, because they're not. The addition of an auto-attack option that just spams the regular attack (or heck, customize it so you can use whatever 0-cost attack you set it to) isn't going to suddenly make the battle system generic - it already is. Battle regimens and stuff are cool additions and really, I like the feel of combat the way it is now, but let's be serious here - it's a basic MMO combat engine with a couple of features added and a couple more (like auto-attack) removed for really no good reason.
