Many of these gil sellers are based in the US (or at least there servers are) so shouldn't you send some Cease or Desist letters to them? It should put a halt to some rather quick.

Laws between countries dont work that way. Moreover, ever hire a lawyer before?
A lot of the Gil sellers are hacked accounts. Even a dog doesn't dump where it sleeps.
Not to mention there was a landmark case back when Gravity tried to do that for Ragnarok Online and, rather unexpectedly, the courts ruled in favour of the RMT merchants and gave Gravity a pretty sore return. Ever since then and despite the fact that digital law has matured to the point where they'd probably win, MMO companies aside from Blizzard have been kinda wary of trying legal action.
Not that I wouldn't love it if they did take these people to court or indeed even just start flinging C&D's. But.. that's my feeling as to why besides.

Instead of suing perhaps how about simply going the criminal route: they've essentially hacked the game (Squares IP/property), stolen property (the account/character) and given how our accounts are generally linked to credit cards/debit cards the some fraud their too.
So yeah trace IPs and call the cops in the relevent countries.
I'm pretty sure fraud and theft are almost universaly accepted crimes.
only way to stop gil sellers is to make them not needed , i might actually have to stop playing because to many gil sinks and no way of making it unless you want to craft but its not soemthing i want to do
I thought it wasn't illegal? I know it's against ToS but I don't think it's against any actual law.
Until the united states passes legislature to make this kind of shit illegal, not much will/can be done about it in terms of legality.
It's not illegal. It's not any more illegal than me borrowing your chain saw to cut wood and selling the wood out from the back of my truck.
What the US needs to do is make it so that game companies can claim their games and the virtual things in them as assets. Then taking assets from the game to sell to others without consent could be considered theft. But that's getting the government to acknowledge virtual (non existent) things as being tangible (having real world value) which I don't think will happen anytime soon.
The difference is you had permission to use said chain saw these scum are stealing in a since. Is more like turning your apartment into a Starbucks without the permission of your landlord. Essentially they are using SEs property to make a profit without the direct consent of SE. As far as the spammers go you can be sued for harassment over the internet.
Lawsuits are expensive. They cost money to file. Money to pay the attorneys involved. Money for service.
And that's if you have an easy-peasy way of serving them. If they're intentionally trying to duck you, it gets rapidly more expensive to pin them down so that you can serve the complaint to them.
Um, that isn't illegal at all or was that your point? I suck at being able too tell tone through text.
But anyway I agree someone, somehow should make it illegal, 'specially since they are stealing people's accounts. I know, I know they shouldn't have bought any gold in the first place but you have to admit it's still low.
Civil Lawsuits have nothing to do with Criminal Law. Technically, you can sue anyone for any reason - or no reason at all. There is no requirement that a lawsuit actually be viable. You just have to pay the costs to file it, the costs for the attorneys who filed it (assuming you have those), and the fee to serve the lawsuit to whoever you're suing. They don't check to see if it'll "hold up in court." They just take your money and file the lawsuit.
Edit:
The next time you see your car insurance rates spike, you can thank that fact for it. ^_^
Technically, they just need to change the wording so that we're leasing/renting our accounts thereby giving 'ownership' to the company.
Any hacking of our accounts, for any reason, could also constitute as theft of personal information, since we have card details, addresses and such in our account information.
That would make RMT companies liable for criminal/civil lawsuits under theft.
I blame the people who buy the gold from them, and give them a reason to exist more. Though I suspect most just visit those sites, get keylogged and lose their account.
Every thread and post of yours I read makes me think you are a RMTs. You seem to be promoting more easy gil into the economy. That does nothing but causes more inflation. Gil that can easily be obtain means their value becomes lower, therefore, you have inflated prices. This does not help the community. It actually helps the gil farmers more by giving them more easier ways to obtain fast gil. As of now, the only way I see them getting gil fast is by inflating prices on the market boards.
The reason they are able to inflate prices in the market board is because they don't have competition that can undercut them. There is too many people not contributing to the economy. When you have people who just want to fight all day, prices for items on the market boards start to increase because the demand outweigh the supply.
You are playing the wrong game if you don't want to contribute to the community. MMOs are based off the community. The community tried to help you when you posted your own thread complaining about something but all you did was deny their help. There are plenty of other games out there that allow you to be anti-social. MMOs are not part of that genre.
You talk about the game being all grindy, guess what? All MMOs are grindy in one way or another.
I'm waiting for an MMO to get smart and make it so you need to apply to play their game, including the purchase. E.g. Birth Certificate, ID/Drivers License, Social Security etc. Once approved, they request your payment for the game and they send you an RSA Token linked to your account and your login credentials.
If you get banned there will be no way back into the game without somehow faking your identification to get approved for a new account.
