That's right! Heal tagging. Every once in awhile on my SCH (since threat gen is obviously much less than WHM) I like to run around in level 30 and lower areas healing people. Mostly for a change of pace. I have noticed if they aggro something and I have regen up (which is why I go SCH) I tag the monster attacking them. I can honestly say (from my own experience) that the rewards are less if I tag it and they kill it (for them since I used to go after tagged targets for quests when too many were farming them).

Its working just fine. Think about 'tagging'. It's done by generation of enmity to a target first when no previous value existed. If a mob is simply chasing a player of its own aggro parameters then it's still technically available to any direct enmity 'tagging'. Now you come allow and heal the mob's current target which generates enmity with the mob. No other value existed and now you have the tag.

That should only happen when the target is hit... not me healing the target of the monster. here's a good example... A group of RMTs goes around hitting people with regen and cure not to be nice but to guarantee when a particular monster spawns they tag that target. It's bad enough they exist but to start that to claim targets is insane. To claim a target any other way than to be the first to hit it, proves there are major flaws to the claiming mechanics. Because in ARR anyone can attack a mob even if it is Tagged by someone else. There is no claiming mobs. If you fight the mob you get the exp. if someone else fight the mob and you just cure them....you get exp. If your complaint is that by healing other you are getting claim, they can still fight the mob.

Just don't think of it as the mob being tagged, it doesn't work the same way as it does in other games. The definition of broken is not working as intended, this is working how they intended. If you are saying you want apples to taste like oranges, then go buy oranges.

OP, I get it and think others are just unclear. I've noticed this, it happens 2 different ways, 1 I believe is a bug the other isn't.
First is when an AOE is used to "gather" enemies. Every enemy hit is purple, I heal and it turns red. This is a bug. Whether the bug is it turned purple from the AoE or it got assigned to me, I'm not sure, but it should not happen like this. But it's not a big deal since everyone shares rewards.
Second is when it turns ORANGE, which means the enemy is attacking but has not been attacked. I heal and hate turns towards me. Because I did the first action that pulled hate, it turns red and I have technically tagged it. This is not a bug.
The thing is, you bring up other MMO's, but very few have the 3 stages of attraction, yellow, orange, red/purple, and instead just have 2, yellow to red/purple. I'm not sure if this orange stage is what you're talking about, but if it is, then that other player has not actually claimed the mob yet and you are by helping. -

Now in alot of MMOs I have played I always have atleast 1-2 healer classes. I know healing pulls enmity but I never seen it claim mobs through enmity or have claim change through enmity, even with such a great variation in levels. Maybe orange to red through healing enmity may be working as intended but I can't see purple to red as working as intended. Aldo doesn't do this but cure 2 and regen has. Maybe I should have been clearer in the opening statement. Both orange and purple go red, but I have only seen this on my WHM and only in areas where mobs are 20+ levels lower than me.Quote:

Hmm..while I understand the complaint, I have to call the question the necessity to fix it. The only thing 'heal tagging' can get in the way of is mob drops. People can still get hunting log credit, experience credit, and quest credit regardless of the state of the mob. Even quest item drops from mobs will happen regardless of claim state (though I believe you still need to deal a third of the mob's health).
As far as open world mobs go, people are likely farming them for something other than exp; as that would be a sub-optimal approach to leveling. For the specific exp gains on a claimed mob though... I believe it is based on the percentage of damage dealt beyond 30%. So if you are leaving mobs at 100% health but claimed due to cures or regen, then the players killing the mobs are still receiving full credit or near full credit. But even if not, they could always be getting bonus exp based on exp chains they're on.
That leaves the main issue of item farming. If it is a highly contested area for mob drops, people are already blowing instant casts and AoEs to claim mobs anyway. Accidental claim is minimized thanks to this. To me, it is highly unlikely a cure or regen tick will interfere with them.
So all in all, considering the FFXIV ARR content of FATES, Dungeons, Leves, Quests, Hunting Logs, and Open-World Grinding... Heal Tagging only applies to one very small, very specialized instance of interference. Other than that, heal people all you like, knowing you are helping them survive encounters. And relax knowing that their exp is hardly marginalized, and that you are not interfering by accidental claims.
