Alternative Methods for Obtaining Fleece (Weavers)

Fleece is one of the primary materials for a weaver level 40+. It makes both woolen things (mostly 40-45) and is also necessary in felt things (lvl 45+). Unfortunately, fleece is a pain to come by at the moment. There is one group of sheep in the game who drop it (Ornery Karakul, located below Dragonhead in Coerthas). The drop rate is actually pretty good, but they are currently overfarmed like nobody's business. Competition and mob stealing is fierce out there, and when you have six people camping the same three sheep, things can get heated.

Sometimes you can send a /tell to a person farming an area, to the effect of 'hey, can you let me know when you're done?' and politeness and cooperation will ensue. But mostly you'll be killing sheep and someone will run up and start trying to snipe them from you, because 'they do what they want!'

In any case, this whole thing is a stressful, frightful mess. (Unless you enjoy sniping people's kills and fighting with other players. In that case, go for it.)

For anyone who doesn't find this fun, I present to you alternate methods for obtaining fleece.

When you reach level 40 as a weaver, you're able to do leves in Whitebrim Font in Coerthas. The leve "No country for Old Men" requires you to turn in one pair of woolen tights. Woolen tights cost 10 fleece to craft. The leve will often reward you with 15 fleece. This is a profit of 5 fleece. Similarly, when you reach level 45, you can do the leve "And A Haircut Wouldn't Hurt" in Saint Cornach's Find, Mor Dhona. This requires a turn in of one felt robe. Felt robes require 10 fleece to construct (as well as snurble tufts, natron, and electrum ingots). You can be rewarded with 16 fleece though.

The trick of all this is that the leves don't ALWAYS reward you with fleece. Sometimes they reward you with shards, and other times with moldering hats and items you can craft into vintage gear. As far as I know, the leve rewards randomly reset every time you turn one in to that person. However, this method will at very least offset the amount of fleece you need to either gather or buy while leveling your craft.

Another method I have found for leveling weaver is to simply do the level 35 quests, and try to HQ them. In the Sanctum Aetherial Astrological Phenomena (also in Coerthas), there is a level 35 quest entitled "A leg up in the cold." This one wants a turn in of 3 linen tights. Since flax (used for linen) is a botany item, it's much easier to come by (and cheaper.) For a bonus, the leve sometimes gives Flax back, AND it's one of the leves that will allow you three chances to turn stuff in. So, you can have three times the amount of experience and (potentially flax) back for one leve allowance. I've found that it's still viable as a leveling method, even in the high 40s, especially if you can manage a full 3 HQ tights turn in. (And even if you can't.)

This is old news for some of you I'm sure, but I figured I would post it for those who weren't aware. If anyone has found any other good methods for leveling weaver, feel free to let me know! Good luck guys!

Ive seen at least one bot farming the fleece too. Someone managed to get it kill though and it was hilarious going back and seeing the dead corpse there for half a day. I was able to tab target + provoke to get most kills away from it though. I completely disagree with you saying that the drops are okay. I gained a quarter level from 39-40 and didn't even get half a stack, and like 1 or 2 HQs.

I found the best way to level weaver 40+ is to actually mass produce Linen Deerstalkers (HQ). The triple turn in gives you 32k base exp, or 288k if you use all HQ items. You'll need about 100-150ish item depending on how many HQ you get (assuming +70% HQ rate).

If you find Velveteen's too expensive, you can also make Linen Hat and Linen Tights which only requires linen. However the later two only gives about 2/3 of the exp per leve. OTOH, these should get you 100% HQ rate if you make then at 40+.

going to echo BaconNarwhal on the linen deerstalkers, the best bit is this leve sometimes gives fleece.(its from uldah) Party Animals I think.

What if mobs spawn point locate more away from each other?
For example throughout location.
And it is good to make them some "floating" against some skills.

you could do leves from the observatorium. some have mad karakul that will drop skins and fleece, best of all, no one can touch them as they are exclusively part of your duty.

I was sort of wondering that one myself. That's the obvious, easy answer here for SE and might be why they haven't said anything, done anything. They knew there was another option

I'm pretty sure one is the necrologos quest, that gave me about 5 sheep per pop.

5 sheeps per pop is worth about 3-5 fleece, that's a very low return for a leve quest allowance. Considering the amount of time you spent going back and forth, it might be better just trying for a tag.

That being said, I think the real problem is that there are only 9 reliable spawn points in the entire 5000 pop server dropping an item that's is required for 2/3 of the high level recipes.

That's true for almost all the materials that drop.
Boar pelt, toad pelt, you name it. None of the beast mats can support simultaneous farming from more than three or four people. It's why the Leve system in 1.00 gave the mats out. The OW wasn't designed to support the mats farming.

At least with Diremite Web there was a leve you could do that, essentially, converts cotton into web. There needs to be leves that let us do the same with linen.

Party animals(triple turn in) can give fleece.
The whole 40 tier actually I believe(in uldah) can give fleece.however party animals requires velveteen.

I did HQ linen wedge cap of gathering all the way to 50. 100k exp per turn in.

The entire leve system works the same. It will offer the material reward at most for me five times, then it switches out to shards for an equal number. I can assure you, obtaining hides is not much better. I was running laughing toads the other night and I was getting a 12% drop with 3 other people pinking the spawns as fast as they came. Add in the same mob that drops web drops sinew so I was taking web I didn't want or need from a few people tonight not because I wanted to but I needed the sinew for the level 25 Ltw leve turn in.

It's more a matter of, they made gathering unique to you because they knew 80% of the recipes required drop mats for all the crafts. It was a built in bottleneck. I don't think they were trying to be cruel, I just think they weren't planning the changes with what the game was made to do.

This is the route I'm taking. Just crafting all of the Flax into Linen took me from Lv40 to Lv43. Crafting the Linen into Linen Tights took me from Lv43 to about 30% away from Lv47. Turning them all in should get me to Lv50 easily.

I gathered about half as many HQ Flax as NQ Flax. I used 1 NQ and 1 HQ Flax for an average of 80% HQ Linen Yarn. Then I used 1 NQ Yarn and 1 HQ Yarn for an average of 80% HQ Undyed Linen. I've kept all my HQ Linen to sell them and currently only use 2 NQ Linen and 1 HQ Yarn to craft an HQ Linen Tights about 90% of the time (maybe 1 NQ every 10 if I get bad luck from Hasty Touch).

Took a lot of time, but it's WAY cheaper. Buying Lightning Shards took about 100k (needed to buy 4k extra shards), but I've easily made 100k back from selling the HQ Linen, which I don't need to HQ the tights. 25k per stack of 5, and I've got 70 more of them for a potential 350k.

The Linen Deerstalker leve that you can pick up in Uldah sometimes offers Fleece as a reward as well. The added bonus to this: You only need Linen and Velveteen (no wool) to do this craft. Also, as I think it's a level 35 leve, It gets pretty easy to HQ. (actually because it uses one velveteen cloth, your chances to HQ are always pretty good, even at level). Lastly, since it's a 'turn in 3' leve, you get the option of completing it 3 times for the cost of one leve allowance. This means when you get the fleece reward (it alternates between fleece and shards) you get 3x whatever the reward is.

I was able to get myself almost a full stack of fleece just by spamming this leve, by the time I was high enough level to craft wool. Then I took my 'starter' fleece and did the leves out in Coerthas like the one in Whitebrim, to up my exp but also keep my stack growing. This allowed me to blast through level 45-50 with mostly my own supplies.

Last pointer: Always check your market wards for the price of the turn in items. It IS better from an exp perspective to craft them as you gain a lot of exp just from crafting the actual item for the leve....but in a pinch and/or if running low on mats, sometimes you can buy the turn-in items cheaper than you can make them, and then get the reward mats you need to keep crafting/leveling on your own again. Just a thought.

Ive just hit this brick wall myself tonight :( After watching first bots farming the karakul, then rude ignorant players - 6 chasing the 3 spawns over and over - I realised my blood pressure and sanity would not withstand this much abuse. So, until SE decides to STOP pushing crafters towards having to support the bots/gilsellers by having to buy their mats from them, therefore perpetuating the awfulness which is gilselling spam and bottage, I will try and finish my weaver from 37-50 on cotton HQ leves and linen.

I found that even if you have the spare fleece/wool, you should not use it to level. A lot of the level 50 LTW and WVR stuff requires undyed woolen cloth. Plus, linen stuff should easily get you to level 50.

Well, at least SOME players farming them are actually trying to get fleece to use themselves, so...

I am really not looking forward to this. I don't buy anything off the MB because I enjoy going out and harvesting/mining/fishing/ and killing everything for the items that I need. >< That is how I do every game with systems like this cause it is my relax time. I kinda enjoy the grind for some odd reason. Main reason I kinda miss my THF from FFXI cause I don't have TH for farming mats. :-( But if I won't even be able to hit a mob fast enough to get the item. ><
