I noticed before that shards were selling pretty easy for 200-300 gil a piece. Now I see them all over being sold for 50 gill a piece, sometimes less. Seems like the shard tactic is dying down.
Any advice on other mats worth grinding?

The only thing I can say about this is... check the marketboard. Look for whatever items you can farm with your DoW/M/L and see whatever sells well.
Sure, it might take some time to discover what's making a profit atm, but once you discover it, farm it, sell it.
I guess we each need to do the leg work to discover what works for us and NOT post it on the forum or youtube. I saw a video advising farming shards for selling on the market place so probably loads of others did too and hence the price drops with a thump.
It's easy to want to share with others that are obviously struggling when you find a 'good thing', but chances are it will just ruin it for you and others making it public like that. Many people who are not prepared to do the research for themselves will just use it. Unfortunate but true.
i just don't understand why people pay that much for something they can harvest, but then again people pay hundreds for NPC item when the NPC vendors are right next to the AH board
I look across the market board and see what I can craft. I'm a level 26 Goldsmith and make a decent amount of gil of making certain items. Sorry I wont say what I make because I don't want the price to crash. I'm not making a killing but a 100% profit (if I farm all my goods) is a good thing to me.
in what logic?? i see rubber and copper ingots at 200-500 gil and in the next room an NPC vendor selling them for only 13 gil!! that's stupid to buy but if that's your logic give me your bank account info and i'll deposit ten thousand dollars into it.
I can understand it from one perspective: IIRC, you can only buy NPC cotton bolls in Ul'dah - at the Weaver's Guild. If you're in Limsa, for example, the market is the convenient option.
Also, while I'm here: who drops Cotton Boll and Diremite Web? I haven't had much luck with Diremites so far.
Cotton Bolls can be farmed up starting at Botany level 11 just outside of Bentbranch Meadows (Lv. 15 Harvesting Point). As for the Diremite Webs not all levels of a mob drop the item(s). For example, I went 0/50 trying to farm Bomb Ash from the level 10 Bombs...but 99/200 farming the level 28 Bombs. Hope this helps a bit.
Because my time is valuable, and I don't enjoy harvesting. X minutes harvesting + Y minutes crafting = A gil net profit. Y minutes crafting + Z minutes buying stuff off the boards = B gil net profit. Unless A > B by a significant amount, I ain't harvesting squat.
Also, if I can buy the one stupid item I need to finish a crafting log entry off the board, and it's not too much more expensive than teleporting to the city that carries that item, buying it off the NPC, and then teleporting back, I'll happily buy it off the board.
Shards should be much cheaper still. They're definitely not worth even 10g/shard.
whats wrong with people selling cheap? honestly this is the first forum ive seen where ppl complain about cheap items lol its playin the market ppl see prices lower thiers abit to sell b4 the others, then some1 else lowers to sell b4 some1 elses lol honestly id prefer cheap market items then stuff sellin for 10x what its worth = =
It is not that they are selling cheap, but that the lower prices are cutting off their profits.
it would be annoying if they keep undercutting u w/ 1 gil
i mean what would u prefer ? somethin thats cheaper then usual or every1 sellin 10-20x a fair amount? ive seen stuff at market board bein sold 20x more then a npc sells it. its just = = level 3 materias for 80k, level 50 weapons for 120k.... its just ppl tryin to rip ppl off, personally i look at average prices n sell stuff 10% cheaper just to clear my storage/inventory of materials... i dont care how much the person sellin the s ame stuff for, if he sells his good for him :P
