I've read many Free Companies advertising recruitment to their FC with the specification "except SMNs" it's quite disheartening that FCs don't want SMNs

maybe its because they have too many? I heard if youre a 50 SMN you also can use the 50 SCH class. So you could infiltrate (as a pure and harmless scholar)!! Then when you're in and they don't suspect you, TRANSFORM INTO YOUR TRUE, MAGNIFICENT FORM!

I imagine that a lot of the lack of respect comes with the fact that it's the "new" shiny, and everyone wanted to play it. Some people just grinded through it to have all jobs at 50 again, some grinded through it because they thought they would like it. Either way, there are numerous players that didn't put full effort into it and it was easy to run into sub-par or mediocre summoners as a result. That sort of bloated population for a class/job is going to lead to greater instances of finding more bad summoners than good summoners. Summoner is just fine. Eventually you'll find a group of people that will worry more about you as a player than what job you decide to play. Good luck! :) (And hi to Kwon Yuri who responded to your post first.)

That is odd, in tonberry summoners (at least from what I experienced) are quite rare. I'd be happy if there was one in the team for swiftcast raise. Helps in tight situations

I've never seen this. If there is any reason for it, it is most likely the huge number of people who picked up summoner/scholar because it's a new class, so a disproportionate number of people leveled it first, so FCs may have all the SMNs they need.
It certainly has nothing to do with SMN's DPS, which keeps up with the best of them. -

I don't think it's because they hate SMR or anything like that ;)
It's like in a real company, we need a sales but you are an accountant. We have nothing against accountants, they are extremely useful but right now we have sufficient number of them and we really need a sales guy :)
Good thing is that in FFXIV you can multi-class so either find another FC that can recruit you or level up something else -
