Making the Transition

I posted this originally on the New Player section but did not get any responses to this question. So I decided to move it here. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me.:)

As of right now I currently play FFXI. I plan on making a slow transition from XI to XIV at the start of next month and I wanted to make sure my computer will be ok to run this. I made a few upgrades awhile back but I just want to make sure. Heres the basics I got at the moment. Thank you!

- AMD Phenom™II X6 1055T

- AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB GDDR5

- 80GB Solid State Disk

- 4GB DDR3/1600MHz

In fact what you have in your computer is better than what I have though mine has its own beastness all on its own =)

The game is fun for some people and not fun for others let him decide weather its good or not =)

Why should'nt I do it? /sigh... its FF... I'v played them all and can not go without playing this one. I just need something new. I'v been rocking Vana'diel for many years and I have met every single goal i'v made. There is nothing left for me to do anymore. I'v completed every mission on all add-ons/expansions. I have SEVERAL 90 jobs that are all well geared. I just need something new. Its just not giving me the satisfaction I use to crave. The game has been put on easy-mode and its just not challenging enough for me anymore. :)

Thanks for the heads up on the system stuff though, I'm looking forward to exploring, cause I heard walking was the norm at the moment :P

The thing is that if you're expecting a world even remotely like Vana'diel in terms of lore, interesting zones, characters, etc. you'll be VERY disappointed. I'd honestly wait until they shell out more content and maybe flesh out the setting a bit more.

I honestly hope it is nothing like FFXI. I would like a whole new experience. I know that it is similar is some ways but I can't just go off what people say. Best way for me to know is to install and give it a shot. I appreciatte the opinion though :). The game has been sitting on my shelf since the release and I can't stare at it any longer lol..

All I can say to that is, careful what you wish for lol. I hope you enjoy it more than I did.

I haven't decided on a server yet. I was going to ask peoples opinions when it got closer to the end of the month. Since you have mentioned it though, I think I might just go there. :)

Selbina is the most populated as far as I know.

Besaid is the unofficial roleplaying server.

Don't go on the low populated servers unless you enjoy lots of empty spaces and being unable to find proper parties/items-for-sale easily.

And don't start as a Disciple of the Hand; it is incredibly hard to level up Disciples of the Hand early on without leves.

You're good to go. We have the same card too. I can't max it out, or rather, I can but things get all jumpy every now and then; like in Gridania.

I don't really see a plausible reason to wait for more content, since there is no monthly subscription fee right now. Sure, it'll come eventually, but I think we'll be having a nice load of things to do by then.

I say, let out your barbaric yawp at the store clerk to let him know you want xiv, go home and play on besaid until your heart's content :)

Those specs are good to go OP. As for whether you should jump ship... I'd say wait till mid-June.

New content is due out mid next month and If I was you I would just wait til then but then again the game is free to play currently so you may just want to hop on it, but if you do don't be in a rush to hit max level. Just take your time and enjoy the game and you will have something to do next month when the dungeons come out.

This is my exact set up but with double the Ram haha... works wonders :D almost full max settings at 60fps :P Cost efficient too^^ Best bang for your buck imo without getting too high in price, run max settings 60fps too in all offline games I've tried...can't go wrong <3

Thanks for all of the replys! Like the topic says, making the transition. I don't plan to totally jump ship on XI just yet. I just want to get in and get to know the world a bit and go from there. But once again, thank you all!
