Just had 3 Oak Longbows @ 98% chance to HQ fail a HQ 3 times in a row -.-; Clearly it should say .000000000000000000000000098% chance.

Tonight, Carpenter's Gloves, 94% chance to HQ and it NQ'd. . . ; ;
Or reclaim failing 3 times in a row. I love SE's version of '90%'!
94% Chance to HQ: NQ
12% Chance to HQ: HQ
SNAFU
Ah, how the crafting system does love to troll the crafters...
Last night I was getting 350k xp per lv 40 leve and then 423k xp per lv 45 leve. O.o
Since I'm doing BSM, I just use my 50CRP/ARM to churn out HQ mats and its total win.
going up 1 level per leve - i don't even....
I only have ALC/CUL left and I was going to skip them but going 1-50 in two days if I have the leves seems pretty doable. Could use the cross class abilities too.
I checked my numbers after grinding out a stack of earrings to turn into a triple-leve. Hasty Touch + Steady Hand makes 70% success rate. After 7 successes I hit 100% quality with all normal conditions; I get 11 tries per craft. Essentially, I should HQ every craft if it runs by-the-numbers. Making just 6 lands me in high 80's/90's; 5 hits makes for about 40-50%. Of 40 crafts about one half were NQ. That's some awful luck.
Another WTF moment- during one of these sessions I got only 3 of 11 attempts, putting me about 6% HQ rate. Got the HQ. Makes up for the obscenity of a 27% success rate which is stated to be 70%.
Say what? I did lvl 40-45 leves on my goldsmither and weaver turnign in HQ items and most exp i got was in the 130K range iirc. Are you pulling these numbers by turning in 9 HQ on the leves that ask for three items and are willing to take more?
Please explain, i'm most interested.
Other types of WTF DoH moments (basically all user error):
-realizing you have GP gear instead of CP gear equipped, when you really could have used a few CP
-realizing you have a low level item you were trying to finish a spirit bond for some crappy materia, after you fail to HQ or complete an item
-forgetting how what you need to complete the progress of an item... i.e. you could have completed in the number of turns you expected IF you used craftsmanship food, or as a differnt DoH
-acidentally using a macro you designed for cheap easy items on something expensive and important
Goldsmith's turbine, 100% HQ chance with 30 durability to spare and only need 1 successful synthesis to complete. Failed 3 straight synthesis and got nothing.
In terms of statistics: (0.1)^3 = 1 in 1000 chance.
Sorry, I was unclear. I got 11 attempts to improve quality per sythesis, each attempt had 70% chance of success. Statistically I should end up with about 7 or 8 successes each run. After 7 successful attempts I have 100% chance at HQ. With 6 attempts successful the HQ chance is usually around 80-90% (depending on how many 'good's I get) and with just 5 the chance is around 40-50% for HQ.
So if I hit average, above average or even slightly below-average luck I should always HQ. But fully half of my results were NQ, the result of chain-bad-luck.
My worst usually comes during a long crafting session (grinding 3x turn-in leves). My button presses become mechanical, and I accidentally waste an Excellent rating in favor of something like Steady Hand, and only have 1 stack of Greater Strides left, which is wasted on the Poor rating that comes after.
I get this pattern when making Yarns and cloth. You design a system to make full use of your CP and the condition status goes out of its way to defy the system you established.
My system is Steady Hand, Advanced touch, Great strides, Advanced Touch, Great Strides, Advanced Touch, Careful Synthesis II. All of the Good and Excellent Conditions show up on the great Strides. I learned to ignore it because it defines 5% of a stack and isn't worth fighting.
Accidentally crafting Electrum Wristlets and Electrum Rings instead of Wristlets and Rings OF CRAFTING, because the graphics look too man similar and the "of crafting" is covered up by the mouse over box...
Crafting a HQ weapon but not risking it at 50% but I don't get the HQ.
However, later, I don't even bother raising the HQ at all (read: Literally at 1%) and I get it as HQ.
wtf.

can anyone tell me WTF is wrong with this picture???
Not seeing an excellent condition until your final step is always fun lol.
Great Strides is up and it's excellent condition but Steady Hand isn't...
80% success rate on Advanced Touch my ass, more like 20%.
By far the worst for me is when i'm getting tired/lazy and i'm making a fairly expensive item like crafter AF. There's 20+ durability left and i still have 50+ CP with 1 move to finish it and like 98% HQ. Instead of hitting one more button to get it to 100% I just finish it and wouldn't you know it, NQ and a waste of 10-25k.
