FATE model loading is game-breaking; makes Svara, Behemoth, other FATEs unplayable

The model priority of

1. Mounts
2. Chocobos
3. Summons
4. Players
5. Minions
6. Monsters

is ridiculous. It's game-breaking, and it makes certain important FATEs unplayable.

The game needs to load in the following priority:

1. Monsters (should be forced to display 100% of the time; should NEVER disappear unless they are too far in the distance)
2. The player himself
3. Party members (should ALWAYS be targetable using party menu when in range; should NOT matter if you can see them or not)
4. Player's own pet/companion
5. Other players (should stop attempting to display if model limit is reached)
6. Pets (should not even attempt to display if model limit is reached)
7. Others' mounts/chocobos (should have option to make these invisible; should NOT load first; should ONLY load if area is desolate)
8. Minions (should have option to disable display....Goobbue Sproutling trolled Behemoth FATE today)

Ya i happened to be at a buddys house with my ps3 and away from my pc when behemoth popped and I did not even get to enjoy him whatsoever on the PS3, I am not even show I wouldve been able to enjoy that lag fest on my PC

I've never seen what Svara looks like and the only reason why I ever get gold is because the only thing I can manage to hit is the adds spawning.
Never seen what Odin looked like either and Behemoth? Only for a brief moment before never seeing him again for the duration of the fight.
I'll also be dead because I never see what hits me.

Spent an entire FATE raising dead people because I couldn't see behemoth, but apparently that's worth nothing to SE. Got 0 EXP for it.

I can see Svara no problems....when people stop sitting it on the edge of the platform and glitching it =_=

Agree with the OP and this for sure. I raised like 20 people in one of the fates since I could see nothing else and got a big fat 0. If I'm getting no xp for it why should I bother with it?

Been having this on PS3, a bit frustrating.

Would be nice if they added a little space below each character, and if they have a carbuncle out it lists its life there (and perhaps the type) so that it could be clicked on to be healed.

When you look back to FFXI's Besieged, an event that consistently produced 500 people for about 2 or 3 years when AU was released, SE's decision here is really silly.

An 11 year-old game that runs on PS2 hardware made by the same company has enemy models loading before other characters and pets.

Hi priority.
1. Player. (and your party members)

Medium priority.
3. Other players. (Other randoms, I was debating on putting these in high).
4. Summons. (inc Chocobo).

Low priority.
5. Mounts.
6. Minions.
^ That's about how it should be.
Speaking of minions they should automatically despawn in a FATE, they serve no point in them.

Fates are just awful on the ps3. I pretty much have to get there first if I want to see anything. One thing I found to work is sending my chocobo into battle. For some reason my chocobo can figure out where the fate monsters are lol when they dont even appear for me.

Behemoth spawned on Lamia this evening, couldn't even see it. Like others before me, raising doesn't count for credit, but it was the only thing I could do. If SE doesn't fix this, large fates are going to find themselves without enough WHM/SCH to heal/raise except for those running in a premade group and that is not nearly enough for the amount of bodies that stack up on these fights.

Game breaking is a bit of an over exageration, dont you think?

I've done behemoth and odin FATEs several times since launch and, although their character models would blink in and out of existence if I were to stand to far, at no point in time has this caused my game to "break" much less crash. The most recent Odin FATE, Odin was visual on my screen 80% of the time, all I had to do was stand close enough (and no, i didn't die for standing too close).

Defeated Odin today but only got silver. Square has commented on this issue and said they are looking into it.

Wish they'd implement something like Tera: if there are too many things around, instead of showing the characters, you simply show them as circles in the ground. Green circles for party members, blue circles for allies and red circles for enemies. Let players enable and disable these replacements in the options menu.

Sure you don't see what anything looks like, but you know how many allies and enemies there are around. Do you really need to see anything besides that, their cast bars and the red circles of d00m?

100% supported. This must fixed as soon as possible.
Last weekend I saw it myself in Coerthas, it's not funny only to see death animations of enemies and only in evening hours did I manage to participate long enough in the Svara fight to get gold.

This desperately needs fixed.

I sent in a suggestion to add a priority slider with 3 settings. Far left and player rendering takes priority. Far right and monster rendering takes priority. Dead center and it's default priorty.

Why? Because sometimes you're going to be playing a healer outside of a group in a Fate and you'll not give a rat's rectum if the monsters render or not. And somtimes you'll be playing a non-healer and won't give a rectum's rat if players render or not.

Of course they could just bypass that and change the priorty based on the primary roll of whichever class/job you're currently playing...but then again, some healers like throwing out some dps and some dps have a heal/raise ability they might want to use so I still think a slider that a player can adjust would be best.

I fully agree with the op and find it very weird that SE did not see this problem before hand.
Here is to hoping that they can fix it in a reasonable time.

This is especially an issue for PS3 players, not only can we see nothing, but there is major input lag during these zerg fests.

Turn OFF other players special effects it fixed it for me.

I don't know what to say - I feel your pain, but from a technical standpoint I just don't understand all this.

Finished Svara three times yesterday with nary a hiccup. 35fps watching Odin play out, too. I play PC, it's rather moot, but just putting that on the table.

The "rendering priority" doesn't make much sense to me. Rendering implies just a display, which means that all the rest of the relative movements and actions on the network have completed in time, sampled in time, and are now only being displayed. It would imply that this is a graphics-only problem. But do we have enough data to conclude that? It would be more likely to miss frames than to be missing the mobs and people entirely.

What I'm thinking (and I'm just thinking out loud), is that this is an affect of the PS3 processor, not the graphics processor. If this _were_ true, it would imply that the rendering priority fixes would not do much, but that the game has either a design flaw deeply embedded in the network engine, or the game has a design flaw of being non-optimized and having to perform more calculations than it should.

This thread is interesting because back in V1 SE made changes to rendering priority so that NPCs appeared in the cities so they had the tech. back then.

I would like this.

1. The player (includes class pets)
2. Monsters
3. party members (includes party member class pets)
4. party companions
5. Other players. (other players >other pets >other companions)

I haven't gotten far enough in game to do the other fates mentioned, but personally I haven't had any issues whatsoever loading Svara (on and off peak hours). I did however see a post on reddit that mentioned a little bit of a 'fix' for this particular issue and it went something along the lines of:

Esc -> "Character Configuration"
-> "Control Settings" -> "Character" -> "Effects while in motion" -> "Off"
-> all "Battle Effect Settings" -> "Show None"
-> "Display Name Settings" -> "Display Name Presets" -> "Hide"
-> Disable Battle Text

I haven't had this particular issue in game yet but it looks like this has helped a lot of people.

Responses:

1. It's a display issue; the framerate is still silky smooth, and there is no input lag. However, the player's ability to output information to the server is COMPLETELY dependent on the client's side rendering the models. If the model doesn't render, it cannot be targeted or acted upon AT ALL by players.
   
   
2. IT IS GAME-BREAKING. If the enemy cannot be damaged or seen by a MAJORITY of the players in a FATE, but they are ALL still vulnerable to being killed by that enemy, and they CANNOT receive EXP for healing/restorative actions, it renders the FATE UNPLAYABLE.
   
   
3. I have the following turned off in a futile effort to fix this issue on PS3: no animations while moving, no animations from anyone except me, no names displayed except monsters/NPCs, no aggro lines, no target lines. It doesn't help if the FATE is swamped by players.

The way I feel about this issue is more disappointment than it is frustration. It's bad enough having certain limitations on PS3 (it's going to take me a while to build an up-to-date PC), but being unable to even participate in a fate like Odin or Behemoth because they simply do not appear make it worse. There's nothing as bad as being left out of something like that.

I've been able to participate in Svara several times, but only when I could beat up the adds that would spawn. Otherwise, I'm just standing there, doing nothing.

I go to check out Odin for the first time, mildly excited, and on my way there, I came to the realization that I wouldn't be able to see him. Of course, when I arrived, I couldn't. The absolute most I could do was beat up a couple Gungirs. Odin would only pop up momentarily before going away again. It just sucks.

Also, turning down the settings—as low as they already are—doesn't solve anything. I've tried doing so in the past, but did not notice any results.

Don't forget the fact that dead enemy models appear to have a higher load priority than live ones, or so it seems to me at least.

I agree, something needs to be sorted. Unless I can start murdering other people's Egi/chickens/minions, they shouldn't be taking priority for loading. I've lost count of how many times I've stood in a fate, waiting for the mobs to load and seeing the progress bar zip towards the finish :(

Got one of Odin's many Mantles today, no problem with the FATE on my server.

FATEs are gamebreaking in themselves. Remove them completely.

Party members should have a higher priority than monsters, especially if you are a healer. If you can't see them, you can't heal them, even with AoE heals.

The development team is aware of the issue that occurs when a large amount of players congregate for the Odin and Behemoth FATEs that the server can becomes unstable and characters are not displayed properly.

The below two points are high on the priority list in order to address the issue:

• Zone enhancements
  There are times that the server will crash when more than 1,000 players gather within a zone. In order to prevent this from happening, we'll be implementing zone enhancements.
  
  
• Display prioritization adjustments
  FFXIV: ARR has been designed with a system to display the appropriate number of characters while maintaining non-laggy conditions even when there are a large amount of players centralized in a location. However, even though this system is working, for these two FATE there is an issue where Odin and Behemoth are not being displayed. In order to resolve this issue, we'll be putting in a separate system specifically for these two FATE, and addressing it so the enemies are displayed properly even during times of congestion.

As mentioned, these two adjustments are high on the priority list so we can address this issue; however, it will take a little bit until everything is completed. We apologize for any inconveniences until then.

Also, we understand that this same issue is occurring for other FATEs as well, but we are prioritizing Odin and Behemoth as this issue occurs much more often in these FATEs. We'll be addressing other FATE that have a high degree of urgency afterwards using the same methods.

We'd like to address this as quickly as possible and once we have some more information to share we will be sure to let you know!
