Flash, , Skill 1 on Add 1, Skill 2 on Add 2, Skill 3 on Add 3, Flash, repeat. (and the other AoE from PLD, i forgot the Name)
I am Warrior, but i dont like spaaming Overpower, because it cost to much TP.
and, what helps alot, MARK Primary Target.
You can do it just fine.
Pull enemysign 1 and enemysign 2 from your Signs menu to your hot bar.
As the tank you are in front. Mark enemy 1 (if a group of 2) and enemy 1 & 2 (if a group of 3).
Shield Lob enemy 1 (that gets you aggro). When they all get there, Flash the group (that gives you a little hate on all of them).
Then rotate through the mobs putting a little hate on all of them, then return to mob 1.
Easy as pie.
press:
↓ ↘ → Flash
this will cast Mega Flash doubling it's potency and it's radius.
how i do it (and it seems to work fairly well), and assuming you have 3 mobs A, B and C
1. Mark the main target (A) you want everyone to attack (so people dont start attacking everything and make aggro management even worse) with /enemysign
2. Shield Lob > A
3. Get in range with all the mobs A, B and C
4. 2x Flashes and make sure all A, B and C are hit
5. Complete a full Fast Blade > Savage Blade (and later > Rage of Halone) combo on the main target, A
6. Use the highest enmity attack you have (either Savage Blade or Rage of Halone) on B, then use it again on C
7. Go back to A and use the full set of combo again
things may vary sometimes but this usually works.
Toss in a few Fast Blade > Riot Blade combos in your rotation so you don't go Out of Mana before you run out of need to Flash.
I have been told my method is overkill, but I don't have any trouble with tanking packs. As long as DPS follow marked.
1. Shield lob
2. Flash until I am down to 20% mana
3. Fast blade, savage, rage combo mob 1 until dead.
If 1 mob is left, fast -> riot to gain mana back up for next pull.
If multiple mobs are left, repeat steps 2 and 3 until you are on the last mob.
Simple...
You could be much more efficient, flash is kinda weak and you could put your time to work with a combo rotating targets along the way. Ideally its more like:
1. mark targets
2. shield lob + fast blade (1st)
3. flash (group)
4. savage blade (2nd)
5. Circle of scorn (group)
6. rage of halone (3rd)
----
This gives you alot of group enmity. Usually I will do the rage of halone on the 1st target and let flash+circle of scorn hold the rest, but depends on the group. Enmity mechanics: http://valk.dancing-mad.com/?page_id=231
I think those #'s are still relevant.
I always mark targets, I assumed that was a given :)
shield lob + fast blade mob 1, if I have an over-zealous healer or have a rejuv on me...the mobs will B line to the healer before my GCD is ready for that flash. I tend to prefer to not run after mobs that are chasing a healer who is running away from their tank.
I don't have step 5 yet.
Mana down to 20% or so, is like 4 flashes maybe 5 I think at my level...and it seems to have been that way since I got flash. The mana costs scaled all the way. If I didn't have flash or if it was on a longer CD, I would do what you have listed. But why over complicate it? When I'm worrying about positioning/orientation, CD usage, watching threat on all the mobs, I could do it that way, but if it works, why complicate it?
That said, when DPS doesn't follow marks, I do spam my flash just as above but then I do rotate my combo across all mobs just to add more threat. But if they are, why over think it?
But its not always about DPS following your marks.. Healers gain hate with healing you. If I am in AK and stealing hate from you then that is an issue, especially when you start on Demon wall. You will notice a big issue with not getting hate from all mobs when you reach 50 and your healers will dislike you for it.
when I get to that point I would def flip my tactics accordingly...but looking at the topic and the poster's level...I was saying what worked for me at that point in time at that level.
All I can say is I would be sure to change as needed, but when some can't tank the starter dungeon 3 mob pulls, asking them to do all that you guys describe would be putting the cart in front of the horse so to speak.
my Gladiator is 15, and my MRD is 28, So far I've had zero issues with Healer hate. 2 Overpowers and a Flash will keep aggro off anything but a determined DPS.
I mark ones, request people focus said Mark, and my runs go smooth.
The only time Healer Enmity gets to be a problem, is if DDs are standing in red zones or generally taking a lot of damage that needs healing, or the Healer is dropping Cures and Medicas on full HP party members.
Even just quickly tabbing through the mobs I'm engaged with and dropping a Fracture is probably overkill most times.
Tomahawk -> Overpower -> Flash -> Brutal Swing -> Overpower -> HS/SS/Maim combo chains. Holds aggro off everything so far.
I'm not at end game yet (47), but things will change in your 40s. When you see your first good bard you will sweat their aggro pull. Good bards and bad WHMs are the worst : D
But like I said before with appropriate gear and being cognitive of the aggro meters I have yet to have a problem holding enmity unless I personally screw something up.
I think the problem is people are afraid of letting their dps die. Don't be afraid to let them eat dirt. If i warn someone, and they don't listen, and we're not fighting a masssssive group which requires AoE then i let them die and remind them both as a tank and even as a healer that i'm targeting something for a reason.
One of the biggest problems i think the OP is dealing with is these dps who wants to 'hold their own' and "solo my own thang" and sometimes you gotta knock them down a notch. If your group is alright just spam flash 3 times, split a lv3 combo, then go in for the fight (careful not to hit sleeping targets) and go with the riot blade routine and flash more for trash mobs (and leave the lv3 hate combo for bosses imho since trash mobs don't last long or do the reverse for faster kills if your party knows what they're doing).
Also if it's a brd... well... that's normal lol.

Most dps don't really get that killing 1 mob at a time means less healer threat levels, less healing needed, less damage i take, and faster kills as opposed to spreading out damage across a group of mobs that can hit me pretty hard.
More edits: Here's a nice shield lob macro:
/action "Shield Lob" <t>
/enemysign attack1 <t>
that allows you to mark the target so you don't hear "well i didn't know which one to target" and if you hear that, ask them to use " /target <tt>" and have them focus you or tell them to look at the left of the bar to target the one with the [ 1 ] or read up on macros (https://pay.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...l_game_macros/)
^This.
I went in a party with a really good bard yesterday. I was sweating the whole time trying to keep my aggro with his DPS. Even with Shield Oath and spamming the FB -> SB -> RH combo, his aggro usually kept up to mine, and if I slacked for a moment, the mob would start targeting him.
Also, Flash as you need, but don't spam Flash. It's pointless. You could be helping out with some damage, which makes your dungeon runs go faster.
Once you hit any mob with RH, you can rotate between 3 mobs, and by the time you come back to that mob, you should still have a fair amount of aggro on it compared to everyone else.

To use Aura Cannon, a single target flash that does damage, but it only works on PS3.
