Who is that Elezen!!!! I must know!!!

So, in the full length movie for the game at the start menu when you don't choose start, it shows an Elezen with the marking of a Scion saving the Company of Heroes from Bahamut going mental, his Staff gets destroyed in the process and he sacrafices himself to save them and teleports them in to the future.

On the wall at the Scions base you will notice the broken Staff in peices on the wall in a shrine.

Who is he and what is his role in all this or am I not far enough through the storyline to have learnt this yet?

I think the biggest weakness of the ARR plot is how little they flesh out the other members of Scions. I know there were more quests about them in 1.0, but for new players they're people we don't know at all that are hard to get invested in.

I agree with Nialle. In 1.0, each nation had a more in-depth storyline in which you came to learn more about the personality of the Scion assigned to your city-state than you get in 1-15 leveling experience in ARR. It is my hope that, in the future, we will get questlines that delve into the situations of the individual city-states and, in so doing, show us more of Thancred, Yda, Papalymo, and Y'shtola. We also got the story behind the Students of Baldesion / Minfillia's Grandfather to be told.

Even if it didn't feel very FF-like as YoshiP has said, learning about the machinations of The Syndicate of Ul'dah, the intricacies of how Gridania believes in Elementals in addition to The Twelve, and how the heck a government by pirates and for pirates works in Limsa Lominsa was actually quite engaging for me in v1. The fact that these local stories never really got closure bothers me.

aye, in V1.0 you didnt even know about the existance of Padjal as the ruling race of grid until when you heared about Seedseer returning from wilds back to Grid to relaunch Order of Twinadder, the only Padjal you saw was the guildmaster from Conjurer's guild, and then you only thought that they were a none playale race or something that is born out of being really powerful conjurer.

and now I guess they been around for more then 5 years so people mostly know about them, I miss the missions where you actually saw the GC leaders in action like where admiral is going around getting all the Pirate Lords to bow down to her at gun point, or where General has to Issue Challenge if any one says no Ill kill them here and now, while Seedsear only had to make personal apearence and people would bow down to her suggestions...

back to topic, that Oldman is actual leader of Scion of Dawn, which have reformed from Scions of Twelve, that staff in Solar is his which gets broken I guess it was recovered, from what I understand you get to meet him in Binding Coils of Bahamut, but from what I understand its only his astral body you see and where you learn of what happend after he ported you away, and how there is no Bahamut active in current game. also that oldman was the goto guy if you wanted to fight Primals in V1.0, basically he would give you lore on each primal before sending you off to die... erm kill the primals in easy then in hard mode.

I'd love if they had a future patch with lots of side quests that flesh out both the various Scions' backstories / personalities and the various city-states.

Hm, it sounds kind of like if you were a 1.0 player, you don't get the story closures. But if you are new to 2.0, you don't get the story openers! :(

there isnt a closure yet since the story for the oldman and bahamut isnt over yet, as for openers you get that from Scions and Opening CS, as the Opening introduces/shows some of the important characters in game, but later as you progress through the mainstory you get to understand exactly what is going on, its just as it was in Orignal game, we didnt know about the GC but you in V2.0 do since they have been formed some 5yrs earlier, we didnt know about the Generals heck we didnt even know much about the rulers as to what they looked like till the GC story was added.

if you are looking for closures I would guess that you need to beat the Bahamut's Coil to get the "Begining of the End" for Oldman's storyline, as it ends with him and bahamut but where did the oldman begin? even I dont know that, all I know is he just turns up with some lore background to him being very knowlegable about Primals and that Acrians have contacted the Beastmen telling them how to summon their primals. as well as members of Scrions of Tweleve being introduced in quests where they give you information on need to know basis as well as working with city states.

newest video on coil shows louisoix appearing, so it may provide some info if you manage to beat it.

and regarding the 'completeness' of the lore, SE is known to leave cliff hangers at 360 degrees of where you are. in ffxi, we literally had hundreds of open ended lores that were incomplete until wotg was finally over - and that took what, 10 years?

exactly if you are expecting them to end their major cliffhanger story then come back in lets say five years, I am sure we will have more then 2/3 expansion packs in that time, just as what they did with Lion in FFXI I am sure they are gonna leave a major cliffhander with oldman.
