Crit chance much lower for BLM?

Is the stat weighting for crit much lower for Spells than instant cast classes? I'm currently sitting at 450 crit rating and only getting an 2%-10% critical hit rate on boss fights (based on ffxiv-app meter). Where as bards/DRGs are up at the 20-25% critical hit rate on bosses with a similar crit rating.

Are any other BLMs having trouble with crit stacking? disappointing that after spending so much time/money getting the max crit gear available for BLM we still have such a small chance.

Granted we would be OP as shit if we were pulling 25% crit chance..

It's possible that stats scale differently based on class. However, keep in mind that Bard and Dragoon have access to Pugilist's Inner Release which is a free 20% crit rate for 15 seconds every minute.

Crit chance is accurate and about the same for all classes. The formula: Crit Chance % = 0.0693 x CRT – 18.486 still seems to hold after doing some long parsing at 430 crit rate I'm getting about a average of 11% which is in line of the scaling of crit rate - http://i.imgur.com/he01K2D.png
As above, not only do Bards have increased crit rate due to inner release, but they have straight shot as well, another 10% crit increase. Also, whenever heavy shot procs, the next straight shot will be 100% crit.

DRGs are a little harder to speak for, but inner release represents almost a 4% increase in overall crit, per minute, if used optimally. Also, Life Surge ensures the next attack to be a 100%, which is almost equivalent to another 4.1% in crit per minute while ignoring GCDs. Given that you can only use 24 GCD (for the most part) abilities in a given minute, even one additional crit per minute will influence the crit percentage in ffxiv quite a bit.

To further elaborate the idea of this, as a BLM if 3 attacks crit per minute, we have about a 12.5% crit rate going on at that particular time. If we crit one more time during the minute rotation, we are bumped up to 16.6% crit.

Only bard achieve 20% + because of Straight Shot buff (+10% crit) which almost always on.
BRD/MNK/DRG has access to a 20% crit buff for 20 sec, you won't probably see more than a 5% crit increase in parser unless fight is very short.

that graph is a bit off.. its closer to 14 crit =1% according to HOURS of in game testing.

No-one can touch a bards crit, right now in my gear i average 33-35% crit in coil. BLM do not get a great deal of crit on their gear so getting much beyond the 5% base is hard to do. skill speed by the math proves to be a better stat. Crit in this game is also only 150% normal damage so dropping you cast time 7%(easy to do) will return more damage then upping crit when you look at what is out there as far as mage gear.

yes that is true... but BLM does not have that trait... Crit is great for bards but not so much for black mages because its hard for them to stack crit and the return is not as great as spell speed.

I ..what? Spell speed? You do realize that even if you had a 2.35 second cast time vs 2.5 second cast time you'd only get a extra attack every minute. That's about equalivent to two fire one crits without the benefit of having extra crit for fire 3. I'm not saying it is better or worse since I haven't done the parsing, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you have numbers to back that up, I'd be more than happy to be convinced otherwise.

It's hard to say which gives straight up higher DPS; I don't know the numbers. That said, I will comment that increased spell speed has a side-effect that doesn't translate into straight theorycrafted numbers. Theorycrafting assumes that you're maximizing DPS by standing still, which is often not the case in endgame content. The admittedly small decreases in cast time given by spell speed, on the other hand, can be the difference between your cast finishing in time to move and otherwise having to be interrupted, which results in a significant difference in effective DPS.

holy crap... someone who understands simple logic...

you can have a 30% crit chance but if you have to move before you finish the cast it means nothing. taking even .25 seconds off a cast can be the difference in casting 1000 damage hit vs doing 0. Its also why spell speed is not as bad as most think for healers as well.
