Time to take a break I think (for me)

I think the FFXIV community has been in general pretty resilient but let's just take a look at the problems we've put up with since we could make our characters:

Open Beta: Error 3k, error 90k. Lockouts, server downtime

Early Launch: Error 1k, friends being scattered all across servers, login times that were HOURS long

Launch: No AFK timer, battling the login screen just to get on, population caps at 5k per server with thousands of players being locked out, locks on character creation, more server downtime, server lag, suspension of sales preventing friends from joining (many of whom never looked back)

1 month after launch: Duty finder taking HOURS to enter, more server instability (the lag today has been unbearable,) PS3 AK bugs, and no server transfers

All this combined with the following glaring issues with the game: awful net code, PS3 crashes/freezes, 0 priority on loading models, 0 GM/CS support, and no RMT prevention


I've got my fingers crossed SE. I'll be back to see if this stuff is fixed. Your game is amazing but it has currently lost all of its appeal for me.

Don't forget the error 601 an 401..

What PS3 AK bugs do you speak of? Imo, an't really be mad at the freezes, DCUO was worse with freezes back when I played.

You are paying them money, you're supposed to be mad when you can't enjoy what you pay for.

If you lose any incoming packets for a second or more (e.g. lag), party members will stop being updated (position). They will appear to be stuck in the same position on your screen and they can't be targeted for or seen after the party begins to progress because they will be in the same position. You have to return or kill yourself to get the updating to work again.

Right not It's the lag spikes that are killing me.. It started after last Sunday's Maintenance.. I get occasional lag spikes and "fast forwarding" in dungeons.. that basically makes everything impossible to do..


Lately I've been missing FFXI.... which is probably a really bad sign.

They have a new PC interface coming in with the next version update. It looks great. I'm definitely going to be checking it out.

It would be kinda funny (in a really, really sad way) if all FFXIV: ARR managed to do was to get FFXI veterans to return to it. :D

You do realize that pretty much everything you listed have already been acknowledged and addressed by SE in one way or another, right? And of the ones that haven't yet been addressed, most have at least been acknowledged and a timeline on a solution was given.

Not trying to be a white knight or anything, but dragging out the same tired list of past issues that have already been resolved does not make the new issues somehow worse than what they are: new issues that will in due course be resolved, just like every other issue before them. It won't happen overnight, so if it's really that big of a deal, go do something else. I'll continue to enjoy the game for you.

Edit: Yes, I have been experiencing lags and the occasional 90000 errors today too, and I'm willing to bet it's because they started letting more new players into the servers. It's annoying but hey it's an online game, occasional connection problems can happen just as surely as griefers and trolls.

I hate that I have to point this out, but the whole awful net code thing has been "aknowledged" by the dev team since beta, and it would look like we are stuck with it. It affects a multitude of systems, from combat to chat, and it's kinda obvious to anyone paying attention that it's too expensive to rewrite at this point, so we are probably stuck with it. That's gonna drive a LOT of people away from this game in the coming months.

Today shows that servers are still unstable, there is no reply about the net code situation, I have 200 RMTs on my black list, and AK queue was 63 minutes today.

That "awful net code" issue is probably my NUMBER ONE problem with the game at the moment. If SE could fix it... man, that'd be too fucking awesome.

As it is, there should be no .2-.5 second delay attached to every god damned thing you do in this game and right now there is. It's just slow and clunky.

Well, it's even more terrifying when you consider the fact that the current netcode is such a vast upgrade to what FFXIV 1.00-1.23 had, and it's still practically broken compared to most modern MMOs. And even some ancient ones...

I was just checking it out. The functionality is better, but it just looks bad which is unfortunate really because they spent a long time on it. (Yes, i know they had to go through and edit a bunch of old code and make it work.)

I play ps3 version everyday. No probs with lag or anything else whatsoever. Some fates get a bit cluttered but still Im golden

At this point I am seriously considering not continuing my subscription. I haven't had that much time to play, and each time, I've logged in, I've been greeted with RMT spam, teleporting botters and lag. After raiding hardcore in wow and eq for years, seeing here in the open world I apparently can't run out of red circles before I see them land due to our woeful latency, I really can't see me wanting to level to max and be useless in raid situations. With an average ping to the servers of about 250 from Australia, which apparently is fine for WoW, playing FFXIV feels slow and unresponsive. The fact that it seems to take almost a full second for a spell to start casting when I hit a button, and the fact that I can move 3/4 of the way into a cast and still have a spell fire off, just shows how woefully inadequate the server response times are. I had high hopes, I held off from ver 1.0 and I feel like I've been duped again.
