ilevel 70 crafted items mats bug?

Is it really 27 pcs of 125 philo items? isn't it too expensive for pants alone?

I mean i understand if it's a two piece set, but nope it's only pants.

all the other vanya casting gear have 9pcs of these 125philo items but the pants needs 27 of them.

More like completely and utterly ridiculous... I thought the whole point of leveling a craft was so that you could profit and make better gear for yourself? Instead, you're better off just getting Darklight because of the time it would take otherwise... If you're a pure crafter (as in, you don't really like combat content) you're basically shit out of luck, too... I'm sure this is something that will change with time, but Potash is going for a steady 80k on the Market Boards last I checked... In 1.0 that'd be 800k, in 1.0 you could by it from a NPC for just over 20k, in 1.0 you didn't need nine times the amount either. Retarded doesn't even begin to describe this...

Honestly, as someone who really enjoys crafting, this is extremely frustrating. I'd love to hear how this is "working as intended" from a community rep or something. I honestly think the NPC should be selling 10 of the item for 125 stones, either that or just one of the item should be required again... Heck, 1 Potash and 9 Twinthread would be a preferable alternative to this lunacy... Although it is technically impossible, you can lose mats while crafting. You can fail getting high quality. You can lose a lot of Gil in forbidden materia melds... Heck, you have to level the craft to 50 in the first place, all that and what are you rewarded with? "Lol you could have gotten full Darklight for those pants".

It's intentional, knowing that, it was 1 Tomestone item per synth, like 1 Potash per Vanya Silk, on release. In the patch notes that changed it they said it was to make the content last longer.

How wonderfully delightful. Well, knowing that I just wont bother with the content then, seeing as it is very likely they'll change it back. So much for content lasting longer, now I simply wont bother with it. Why on earth would I make 1 piece of Vanya Silk today, when I can probably make 9 tomorrow...

Had they made it a smaller increase, I'd probably have been fine with it, but when I compare what I need to do for full Darklight with what I need to do for full iLv70 crafted gear... Yeah... For a marginal difference in stats I have to; level at least two crafts to 50, level a DoL to 50 (possibly two), farm significantly more tomestones and gather a lot of stat appropriate materia... Sure, I could buy the materia, and buy the DoL items, and so on, but I don't have to pay anything for Darklight, so I'm not going to compare them that way...

If they're not changing this back in 2.1, then they can at least rectify the sheer stupidity of the amount increase they initially made... Anything above 5 is honestly too much... I already have to spend more time gathering and farming than I do compared to Darklight, I really shouldn't have to spend a significantly greater amount of time farming Philosophy stones as well...

It's obvious that they don't want crafting to be viable as a source of income or useful at all. If they don't fix this nonsense I won't be subbing for long that's for sure.

Yeah, this needs to change. People should be rewarded for putting the time and effort into crafting, not punished.

So... I'm bored and hate myself, so here is a (almost full) comparison;

To obtain a full set of Darklight for my Scholar, it costs me 5,385 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy (AToP). I also need to have my Scholar in the 40~50 range to do dungeons for AToP. That is it.

To obtain a full set of iLv70 Crafted gear for my Scholar, it costs me 16,875 AToP, over three times the amount for Darklight, in order to obtain some of the synthesis materials.
I also need to have leveled Weaver, Goldsmithing and Carpentry all to 50, and have them adequately geared in order to even attempt the synthesis.
I require Botany and Miner at 50 in order to obtain Spruce Logs, Darksteel Ore and Crawler Cocoons. As well as Crystal Clusters, and any of the lower level materials required.
I am required to farm Garlean enemies for various materials. Garlean Rubber, Garlean Fiber, etc.
I am required to Spiritbind well over fifty pieces of gear (most likely high and low end, given how Materia nows works) in order to obtain the Materia to bind to this gear, that is of course if I get the Materia I want ever time instead Earth Resistance Materia.... Upon entering Forbidden Melds, that number can rise significantly as Materia is lost on possible failures. I'm of course required to mine the Carbonized Matter, too.

So... Three times the dungeons runs. An extra 5 classes to 50, some of which need proper gearing. Significant time sinks in harvesting, probably not such a time sink in farming Garleans, and what will probably amount to days of Spiritbinding gear for Materia. Oh, and lets hope I have a 100% HQ rate. Now, would someone care to compare the stats difference between Darklight and melded iLv70? Considering it takes well over three times the effort, it damn sure better be three times better than Darklight. Fuck, it might as well be better than Allagan/Relic gear.

No. Sorry Square, but this is ridiculously stupid. I did not level a craft so I could make one set of gear instead of obtaining three. Crafting already had plenty of other constraints in place, be it the time taken to gather everything, or the Gil spent. There was absolutely no reason for this asinine adjustment. Lower it to requiring 3 (overall costing 5,625 AToP) instead of 9, or ideally 2 (3,750 AToP), and do so soon. Then it is just under the cost of Darklight, which the 5 other points I've just listed should easily make up for.

I think one thing often missing from this discussion is that darklight gear requires a significant time investment by you. Philosophy tome items, however, are community generated. Unlike darklight, If I choose, I can buy someone else's time. Currently the price may seem astronomical, but that will not be the case forever. As more people have nothing to spend their tomes on, the amount of materials available will increase

Sorry to burst your bubble, but by the time most people are turning AToP into Potash/Coke/etc. - enough to drive the prices down from their ridiculous heights, at least - they'll have already obtained their Darklight and thus no longer need iLv70 equipment. I am certainly not sitting around to wait for everyone to get Darklight and thus crafted equipment to be reasonably possible, I'd much rather the developers just wake up and see how colossally stupid this whole affair currently is.

If the AToP cost to make a full set of iLv70 equipment isn't dropped below that of a full set of Darklight, and soon, it'll pretty much be too late for most people. Crafting will effectively be the realm of "You joined the game late and still need iLv70 stuff to clear old content?" and that'll be it. A time saver for new players who don't have time to farm Amdapor for weeks, instead of something which works as an alternative for some of the top end gear. That's honestly pretty ridiculous and basically kills crafting (and half this games content) for me.

I imagine 1.0 players are doubly hurt by this... I mean, Potash used to be 22k? I don't remember, was in the 20s I'm sure. Now? Now it's on the Market Boards for 60~80k, which is 600~800k back then. I mean Jesus Christ... This stuff should be going for 2k... Instead they made it harder to obtain and multiplied the amount needed by 9... Honestly, the more I think about it, the more words fail me...

Yea. Crafting should be an option for players who can't afford to farm philos on their own. But bumping it to 3-5times more expensive doesnt do justice. I mean come on, by the time i can buy 9animal fat and 18potash for pants JUST FOR PANTS. I can already get my darklightcowl + Darklight breeches

The NPC price was 100k, 50k if the hamlet was on rank 2. I bought them some times for 50k and sold them for 75k on the market during the time the hamlet was on rank 1.
But 80k in ARR (800k in 1.0 currency) is really overpriced. Who would buy it?
I'm somehow lucky that I have still some from 1.0 in my inventory.

SE should give the special mats as a reward from special crafting events as a alternative source.
Maybe some level 50 quests from the crafter guilds with some difficult recipes that give you the items as a reward.

Intentionally and only the people who decided to keep Hamlet Provisoning items that most threw away profited - Also, those of us who did Alchemy and whatnot in 1.0 our Minium was converted into Cinnabar without notice since it's also tome items now, so yeah, either they didn't think it through or he felt that people would sacrifice good gear to purchase these items.


I remember when people were saying that Tanaka was the worst MMO designer and purposefully tried to block people from progressing and Yoshi P would never do that. Good times, good times.

I only have assumptions, given how ridiculous a notion it is to spend 9 Potash on one piece of Silk when it's already well established that this is a temporary arrangement. Given how utterly retarded and disappointing Materia and stats caps have been thus far, I don't expect much though.

If I can meld 10 Mind (tIV + tII), and 24 Crit (tIV +tIV + tIII) to Vanya without stats caps ruining my day, feel free to share the good news though. I mean, I'd still be hurting for base and magic defense, as well as Vitality and Piety (lawl), but yeah, that'd be great. So far though, tIV Materia seems like the most pointless thing in the game. Based on what I've seen of some friends gear, that 10 Mind might be possible, but that 24 Crit sure as hell isn't.

I sincerely hope more and more of these threads pop up so maybe they will fix this. I don't even care how ridiculous any of the comments are, because they couldn't possibly be as ridiculous as the actual situation itself, so I support this thread no matter what. iLVL 70 crafted gear is currently non-viable. People will just get Darklight and then go to AF+1. This will not extend the content. This is just annoying people, and puts vanya and whatnot back to the "vanity piece only" category, despite it's wildly upgraded stats.

I mean, rich people could just buy it, but that suggests they spent a ton of time farming for gil instead of farming for tomestones, because ain't no one gonna sell this stuff for cheap (though the market for some pieces is stupidly low at the outset due to legacy carry over - on legacy servers, anyway).

it's disappointing because the actual crafting of items I find to be the best system of any MMO I've played....but the end sucks.

Aren't there supposed to be mines that spawn on a timer that give the items?

If I farm all these Peacock ores, and end up with a NQ ring I am going to be a very sad cat.

I really want to continue to rank up all of my DoL and DoH classes, but if there's no reason to do so in the high levels, what's the point? I want to be able to be a master crafter and have that mean something for legitimate game play. I want to be able to make kickass weapons and armor for my main class/job with materials gathered through my own adventures, or offer out my expertise for those who want to hire me. If crafting is useless, why even have it in the game? I find threads like this one to be so disheartening. I like crafting and gathering, and all of these threads make it quite apparent that the system is broken. I really hope it gets fixed.

I'm not even up to near this stuff yet...

But what I'm reading is worrying. :/
