Why is this so stupidly expensive, and any tips on how to get it?
Supply and demand my friend. It's rather rare to obtain to be honest.
I obtained them by paying 50k each. :(
Amen to this. 80k is the cheapest on my server right now. And considering you can't really generate gil right now, I think I'll just be waiting a while.
the way to make them is by converting lvl 45+ soulbound gear into materia.
And so, practically, you can run Amdapor Keep and Wanderers palace - pick up loot from there, wear it while doing more runs - once its soulbound convert it.
It's quite a long process, you may be getting all kinds of random materia... and thats why it costs so much.
Spent all my leveling money on them, and I had 4k left at one point. Balanced game is balanced.
It was quite the expensive start to the relic chain. 15k for weapon, 100k for materia, then 10k tip to meld them. Thats really horrible that its even higher on other servers.
I hope they come out with a better way to make money. Would probably make a big difference if the high level dungeons didn't drop 25 gil pieces in chests and dropped the 500 or 2500 ones.
I think I saw them at 27k on mine when I looked, and thought 'oh I'll just save a bit more first'...I think Im regretting that now ):
None of my Strategos gear lets me convert. It says non-convertible for me at the bottom of its tool tip.
I did however find a Quicktongue III from converting a Tourmaline Earring. I'm not sure how much tourmaline accessories cost on your server or if you know a goldsmith who can give a good rate, but if you spiritbind five of them at a time, you might have a fair chance at Quicktongue amongst other accessories.
I got one from a HQ wand of flame, but I think rings spiritbond faster than weapons (I can't say for sure) and I've heard from a number of people that rings and earrings are the way to go if you don't want to just buy one. Sadly, I'm going to need another since the first one went to my lv50 alchemist quest.
Im converting them myself but im unlucky i convertet 15 pieces of gear (50) and only one Quicktoungue till know.
The white level 49 Goldsmith-crafted items are the best way to get these.
Buy yourself a necklace, 2 rings, earring and maybe bracers, of whichever gem type matches up with the type of stat you want. Eg, as a Paladin, I used 4 Amber tanking jewels, which had Parry on them. I'm not sure on the way it works out, but I believe there's a much higher chance of getting a materia with the stat type you want if the item has that kind of stat on it already. So after extracting 5 of these white 49s once I'd spiritbound them, I ended up getting 3 Battledance Materia IIIs (the parry one for the paladin relic).
I hear different things about the way Materia is chosen. Quicktongue is Spell Speed, so I -believe- you have a much higher chance of getting Quicktongue Materia IIIs out of the level 49 TURQUOISE earrings/rings etc than out of any other item, as Turquoise gear has Spell Speed. This might be incorrect, some people have said the stats don't matter and it's purely random, some people say it does matter. But after getting 3 Battledance Materia out of 5 extractions of items with Parry on, I'm inclined to believe it holds true. You can still get bad materia like wind/fire resistance from any though.
It takes 3-4 runs of AK or Castrum to spiritbind a ring. Every time you hit 100%, extract it, and either sell the Materia III you get to finance more buys, or you got lucky with hte type you want.
This, exactly this. I've play 50 whm, and when I run AK / Castrum, I always keep a pair equipped so I can make some gil, and about 40-50% of the time, I will end up with a Quicktongue Materia III. The accessories are cheap to make for a 50 goldsmith who knows what their doing. I've done this process about 20 times, and gotten around 13 quicktongue materia III. Made a lot of gil from it.
I finally broke down and bought mine off the auction house last night. I was soulbinding accessories and converting them into materia, and only getting junk from them. So I got fed up :( You just gotta be lucky I guess.
Run Leve quests for gear. Get a set of 45+ Gear.
Go to CM with crap gear to spiritbind... or a Fate group in northern than.
Convert said gear.. Profit.
When I needed them they costed about 100k each on Odin. I read the XXFIV forums however and went with a cheaper alternative.
Get the Turquoise Ring and Turquoise Choker, get 100% spiritbond and convert them.
I've converted about 6 rings and 3 chokers. Got 2x Quicktongue III, 2x Savage Aim III, 1x Mind III, 1x Piety III, 1x Ice III and 2x Savage Might III.
The first time I tried this method I got 1 Quicktongue III and 1 Savage Aim III so I kept trying.
The items themself costed me about 6k each (so 36+18) but by getting them spiritbond I got well over 150k in return besides the Quicktongues by farming mobs.
If you don't care about not making back the money then the quickest way to get them to 100% is doing dungeons.
1 CM run got them from 34% to 92%
Hope that helped and good luck :)
And here is what you do to save you up some money:
My boyfriend bought 2 Accessoiries from the Auction Board, both had Speel Speed and Int/Mnd on them.
I do not remember the exact name but I will update this and put it in.
All you do then is farm fates or do CM runs to spiritbond and afterwards convert them.
I had my Quicktongue III materia within 2 hours and payed only 15k Gil for the items bought at the Auction House - keep in mind that most people want it confy and quick, they rather just buy stuff instead of making it themselves, of course the prices would go high. But - it's not hard to obtain that materia by doing it yourself!
It is just random I am guessing. Converted like 2 sets of tourmaline jewelry and other assorted level 45+ gear and I never got the materia that I need. In contrast my tank friend who is farming spirit bond with me got a battledance out of almost every item he converted.
It's really senseless that the alchemy 50 quest requires a quicktongue III materia.
If, say, it required a type of materia that comes from converting the alembic or the mortar? That would make sense. That would be thematic, since, wow, those items are used in alchemy, and this is...the alchemy quest.
I had two hq turquoise rings I converted and both converted into Quicktongue Materia III. Maybe I'm just lucky. The materia sells for 45k each on my server.
30k per when I looked. I bought 2 quickly and now they are 120k per lol.
red coral necklace spiritbond it and convert enjoy the free QT3 materia!
Out of three DoM accessories, I got two quicktongue. Just do acc.
I've broken down about 30 Turquois/i55 accessories over the past day or so, and I've gotten 2 quicktongue, one Fire IV (blah), and tons of savage might/aim/vit/piety. The 2 quicktongue came from 2 of the first 3 accessories I broke down, and I haven't seen another one since.
run a lvl 45 battle levequest. most of those offer gear and will sometimes have a chest in them that will give more gear. throw a couple of peices on with as much +spiritbinding gear you can muster and run CM a few times.
i go with the ring which is +3SB the and the neck which is +1B (i know there are others but this is what i use) and run CM 3 times and that will give you 100% spiritbind PLUS you are gett tomes while you do it and CM is pretty easy.
covert your gear and hope for the best, repeat as needed. i also do that for gil. good way to make money if you get lucky and get some materia that is in high demand. battledance III for example is around 70k on my server. 70k gil is worth the time it took to get them if you ask me
It's all very random. I've upgraded my accessories through AK/Darklight and converted my old ones and every one of the items I converted turned into Savage Might III. Granted, I'm a BLM, but I figured that any type of caster item would have a chance to turn into Quicktongue. It could be I just have terrible luck.
I've only seen one converted in town once and it was from an aetherial arcanist book.
Everyone above has already said it, but I still do this just to make money even. Whenever doing FATEs, CM, or AK.. I equip level 48/49 accessories I buy off the AH for ~4-5k on my server. Neck, rings, earring, wrist. It takes me on average 4 AK runs to spiritbind them, but the materia sells on average 20-30k (depending on what I get). It's a nearly effortless way for me to make some money back while doing AK/CM runs. I slap on my "real" gear (DL) when I'm doing harder stuff...
Not only that, but the stat caps make it extraordinarily useful. I decked out my WHM in +MND gear, and that meant I couldn't use Mind Materia effectively; it was all capped. Most items were capped on Piety as well even if they weren't supplying that stat. What was useful *and* worked in most slots? Quicktongue.
It just depends on what gear you're melding. Turquoise HQ items, for example, can't make use of mind or quicktongue. But they can easily slot piety materia.
Also, just for reference, I've gotten about 8 or so quicktongue from the ~40 turquoise items I've converted. And lastly, HQ items spiritbond 25% faster than NQ items.
Cheers
I lucked out, found 2 on the Market for just under 20k each. Still excruciatingly expensive but then I found out I had a bloody grimoire that dropped that I sold on Market to make back almost the full amount. hah!
Then I'm even luckier because I undercut the other ones on the AH and made about 33k off of it. And our Quicktongues are 18k+ here(when I bought mine).
what is HQ and NQ?
ahh ok, thanks for the reply, been seeing that thrown around a lot.
I wear a set of the mind accessories and usually get 2 quicktongues per sets I spiritbind.
I converted a felt robe into a quicktongue III. i guess the rings are cheaper/faster tho, I'm working on a tourmaline ring right now to convert.
