Patch 2.1 and Wolves Den, PvP discussion...

So how is PvP supposed to work in this game. From what I can tell with my limited time here is that this game is no where near balanced for PvP play.

1)Melee cannot close distance to ranged.

2)Ranged can kite melee.

3)Sleep spell and how this will work into PvP

4)latency issues....

Discuss...

500ms lag PvP. Oh this will be fun!

It'll be just like WoW vanilla when people were still using dial-up!

1 - 3.) We have different skills when in a PvP Zone.

4.) I haven't experienced any that didn't involve 60+ people crowding around a single fate boss

It's very old common knowledge. Yoshida's addressed it specifically; please enjoy the googles.

Indeed, PvP has been clearly, repeatedly stated as being balanced separate from the core game. I don't know what all this entales as I didn't go anywhere near Wolves' Den during Phase 4, but given there was very little said about it on the Beta forums I can only imagine that means it was good. That said, melee will always have issues with ranged, it's just a given.

I wanna know WHY were fighting each other personaly. In other games the factions are the reasons we war with each other, Why do we do it in this one?

But I like story reasons for battling each other, just a personal opionon. Unless i missed the drop on this in which case could one of you kind fellows guide me there?

It's optional PVP, gaunt, so this is mostly about those who want to get at it against each other rather than the comp'.

I can't wait for PVP to be added it'll be nice to have something fun to do at lvl 50. Hopefully you'll be able to obtain armor from PVP so there's an option other than dungeon runnning.

Being a CNJ/WHM, its impossible for me to PVP effectively right?

Don't know, noone said anything about the PvP during Phase 4. We'll just have to wait and see.

I hope the pvp "sieges" actually have benefits to properly motivate people to compete. I have a background of playing Lineage 2 and Aion, so I'm looking forward to a little pvp, even a dinky arena to play in will be nice. Lots of people in this community seem a bit, well - soft? Sensitive? Well, anyways it just seems like it might take some work to get people out there to compete with each other directly instead of over the duty finder.

No one is complaining, Im simply using logic to come to the conclusion that PVE skills in this game will be drastically unbalanced and asking the question how this will be addressed.

HAVE YOU PLAYED PVP YET ? name a game that had perfect pvp when first started wow didn't, fact is they screwed around so much with wow pvp its nothing more than a worthless crap fest now, I suggest wait till it's released then make some comments based on playing pvp and suggesting the balance you think should be implemented.

fact is i am sure you know this there will be tons of people crying how hard or or easy it easy lets hope that yoshi and the folks at square enix don't fold under pressure and make pvp a carebear type gamestyle keep it a challenge.

I very much like the idea of a special skill set for PvP. Just so long as its not just all our normal skills, with different effects. Giving each class the tools it needs to compete against other classes is solid. Unfortunately no MMO so far has had the balls to make PvP a separate game to PvE. I think Rift came close with the PvP Souls, But you had to do a lot of PvP with PvE souls in order to get those ... Monk especially would need a lot of changes to its core mechanics otherwise it'd be useless since you would get very little uptime on your target as well as positional requirements boning you out of half your Damage.

Giving Tanks the ability to force players to attack them over their Healer would be a VERY welcome change in MMO PVP. Would be amazing to see Class Roles useful in PvP.

I normally hate PvP in MMOs. I'm really keen to see if XIV will be a trailblazer, or just a new addition to the cattle herd.

Wasn't it stated in one of the developer notes that the little tidbit about pvp was between each GC to promote a friendly competition between the three? That was probably the only bit of info about wolves' den that was directly given out to the public.

For the last time, since this has been repeated to death. PVE skills will not be in the PVP portion of the game. Period. Done. >_>

Haha, ya , i would like a world announcement about reopening the pits in uldah or somthing like that. But hay thats personal, Although it seems like whoesever got the most leveled classes out of the fight will reign surpreme.

Its for the last slice of pizza, you all know we must go to war for that.

I tried the wolves den (arena) a couple times 4v4 @lvl30 because the 40-50 wouldn't queue during Phase 4. This was with the "PvP actions" not available yet.

Everyone gets increased movement speed or what seemed like faster than normal movement speed. Very easy to interrupt casters. There are columns and fences you can use to LOS people. Circular arena, middle is fenced off on both east and west sides, only way to get into the middle is from the north or south. Behind the fences is the outer ring that goes all the way around with some pillars you can kite people around with.

Normal strategies apply like peeling for healers, snaring people, and CC. Sleep was ridiculous because the CC breakers/PvP actions weren't in the game yet.

PVP's going to be hilarious. They have a LOT of client-to-server interpolation and update frequency issues they're going to have to sort out before PVP works lol.

With the current netcode, you're going to always see the person as they where 0.3 seconds ago. Good luck melee!
