Focus Target with a controller?

I tried searching and asking in game but couldn't find anything about it. I was wondering if it's possible to set a focus target while using a controller on PC?

When controller is enabled Shift+F doesn't seem to work, it simply puts an F into the chat box. My workaround so far has been to target the boss before a fight, switch to keyboard and press shift+f to set the boss as a focus target, then switch back to controller.

Anyways, does anybody know if there is just a different way to set a focus target while using a controller or if it just doesn't work as expected? Also, if anybody is unsure, I am Not talking about locking onto a target, focus target brings up a mini hp/cast bar by the mini map so you can see when the monster is casting as a healer with a tank or pt member as your locked target.

If your keyboard works, I believe you can just type "/focustarget" and hit enter. I know it's not exactly what you were looking for, but as a workaround you could macro that and set it to one of your hotbars in the meantime.

Edit: also, I think "/target <f>" will target it

/focustarget <t> - to set the target as Focus Target
/target <focus> - to target the Focus Target

Don't work with PS3 (PC only)

I dont use a controller but perhaps in the controller binding settings you could set it up? I re-bound mine to Q on the keyboard perhaps you could re-bind it on the controller?

Actually, the way it works when you're using a controller is that it only gives you 1-4 options per button of what you want to assign to it. It doesn't have the freedom to bind anything like the keyboard's keybind option does >.<

On the PS3, you can focus on a specific target by selecting the target and then pressing R3. Not sure if that will work on a PC while using a PS3 controller.

There is a way to focus target with a controller. I noticed I was doing this on accident last night. This was on PC, but with a PS3 controller scheme. I wish I could be more help, but I know it's built in there somewhere.

A macro isn't required.

What is focus? Camera lock?

If so, just press L3 (click down left stick) I believe while you have a mob targetted. (May be R stick, but I'm pretty sure it is L.)

Or are we talking about something else?

Make a macro, /focustarget <t>

If you are healer /focustarget <tt>

Focus is pretty useless at the moment because the text obscures the cast bar :S

Are you talking about marking a target or locking on to one?

In order to lock on to a target you are targeting, and thus have your camera focused on said target, you just have to push the left stick button, or L3 if you want to use Dual Shock notation.

If you're trying to mark a target for others to attack, you select your target, press the Square button using Dual Shock notation(or X if using a logitech F750 or 360 controller), select 'mark' from the mini menu, select an icon to use, then hit accept on your controller and that's it.

And you can also choose to hotkey the mark command from this menu.

It is basically focusing the HP bar of a monster (it allows you to see what the boss is casting regardless of who you are targeting), try it, target a monster/boss and press shift+F.

Reason why the OP can't do this with gamepad set up is because of direct chat, which I turn off with controller.

On PC, you can set a target into a "Focus Target" window, where you see its HP and status ailments like you were targeting it except you can have other things targeted at the same time. It's a little window that pops up on the left side near your party and hate list.

However, I don't believe it exists on the PS3, which is a huge shame. It would make Tonberry King a bit easier.

Controller even on PC has this automatically built in. Or at least that's how mine works. If I target either a mob or player and perform an action it it is automatically set as the focus target I can then freely target other thing with the dpad and it will always go back to the focus target after I perform an action on whatever I subtargeted

As mentioned in the OP, focus target is Not camera lock.

I will try /focustarget since that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for :) Thanks a bunch for all of the replies, this has been bothering me for a while and I'm glad I finally posted about it.

Focus Target is not Target-Lock.
It is a second target bar. With it you can have 2 targets at the same time.

GRRRR! I wise the ps3 version had this feature. You have no idea how much easier it would be to fight a boss with multiple enemies or players around on screen. Ugh! I'm kinda pissed
