I'm so confused, it has changed so much. I'm in a party with someone 9 levels or so below me. Is it 10, 5, or 5 up and 10 down? I can't remember. Where was this last stated? Patch notes?

its a 5 rank gap. Least that what I know, Look up on lodestone under partying.
Nice! thank you kilta. also when are you coming back to besaid? ^^
It is a 5 rank gap to get party bonus, it is a 10 rank gap before sp/exp starts to go down. So as long as everyone in the party is within 10 the sp/exp will be unaffected and everyone within 5 ranks will get party bonus sp/exp too.
I'm already back. Long story short my nephew some home deleted my lalafell while I was using the rr. And kept bekng on the wrong server after speed making characters. I play a miqo'te now cuz I missed my ffxi character, and I found out ffxiv Seeker of the sun miqo'te have a similar duel EyE coloring as a character I created in a story I was writing. Benn having fun as my kitty. Also gave her my last name in english vs old irish.
I am getting 390 sp as rank 42 on All Cracked Up at Broken Water with 4 leve links, everyone is within 5 ranks except for 1 guy who is rank 33. Am I getting screwed? Last time I did this I was at 500+ SP a kill.
it could be less stars than when you did it for 500+ SP. Less stars, less ranks, less SP.
You would only need it on 2 stars I believe on cracked up to get max SP at R42 as the mobs should be R54 I think might be R52 though with 2 stars.
I can't remember what rank the mobs were. That was a while ago now. No fatigue. 8 people, all within 4 ranks of each other now, still getting disappointing sp. Necrologos with 2 links was like 468.
it was 2 links and which necrologos are you talking about >.>
468 sounds very reasonable when u split the SP to 8 members
It's 5 ranks above and 10 ranks below you. As far as we know, that hasn't changed since the end of November.

Quote:
The rank range that allows for bonus skill and experience point within a party has been expanded from ±5 to +5/-10.
Ex. In a party of three players, ranks 10, 15, and 20, the rank 10 player receives bonuses equivalent to that of a two-person party, as only one of the other players is within the rank range. From the perspectives of the rank 15 and 20 players, however, both of the other two party members fall within the rank range. They will therefore both receive bonuses equivalent to a three-person party.
"In addition, by keeping the rank discrepancy between party members to a minimum, players can enjoy an increase in the amount of skill points awarded from combat. The smaller the range in party member rank, the greater the effect of this bonus will be. The effect of the bonus also grows in proportion to the total number of party members. The largest bonus possible, therefore, would be a party of eight members, all of whom are the same rank. All players ranking up Disciplines of War and Magic classes are encouraged to take part in parties and make the most of these bonuses."

As has been said, it's +5/-10. It's also affected by party size. You'll get less SP for killing the same mob in a larger party, even if everyone is within +5/-10.
you can wace? also kilta does that mean you are 500,000 gil, one dream set, and one egg cap short?
Thanks to my nephew yes. Pretty much what happen was I was gonna deleted an alt character, I went into the RR my nephew got a hold of the laptop and starting mashing buttons. And found all my characters deleted. Then when trying to get back on the server I kept clicking the wrong servers or not realizing what server I was playing on. My nephew is 1 and a devil like his mother who is my younger sister. He keeps starting trouble around me and its hard to play : /
Let me explain this in an easy way to understand...
If you have a group of 8 people between Ranks 30 and 40...
If you are Rank 40, you get party bonus from 30 to 45, so everyone in party helps your SP.
If you are rank 30, you only get party bonus from 20 to 35, so anyone up to rank 35 helps your SP.
Basically if you want MAXIMUM SP for EVERY MEMBER, then keep 5 Ranks max for all players in group.
If the person lower but still within 10 ranks is ok with gimped SP, then so be it, but this is how it works.
Actually, if you read Sovereign's post, you'll notice that for absolute maximum SP, everyone should be the same rank.
As mentioned its +5/-10. The sp gain from a mob is reduced for every member of the party, but is then increased for each party member in the +5/-10 range. This is calculated separately for every party member.
To give an example, take a 3 man party with ranks 30, 35 and 40. In this case the 35 and 40 characters will get a bonus from both other players in the party, but the rank 30 character will only get the bonus from the rank 35 character.
I know it works like this as I have seem my sp go down when another character gains a rank and gets more than 5 ranks above me and the sp go back up when I gain a rank and get back to within 5 ranks. All in the same guildleve.
However, the sp is also modified by the rank of the mobs you are fighting. You gain sp for fighting mobs of a higher rank then you up to 10 ranks at which point it caps. To take our example from earlier, if the party was fighting rank 50 mobs then all party members would gain the same sp (which would them be modified by party numbers and rank gaps), but if the mobs were 49 then the rank 40 character would get less sp.
To take a second example, in a party of 35, 35 and 36 fighting rank 45 mobs the rank 36 party member would get less sp than the other two.
A perfect party would have all members within 5 ranks of each other fighting mobs 10 ranks or more greater then the highest rank party member. At this point everyone would get exactly the same sp. Again we have shown this doing guildleves, both everyone getting the same sp and then a party member getting less after they ranked up and getting 9 ranks lower than the mobs.
5 up, 10 down
exemple: r35, r33, r25, r23
The r35 get party bonus from r33 and r25
The r33 get party bonus from r35, r25 and r23
The r25 get party bonus from r23
The r23 get party bonus from r25
