A tip for you gatherers who sell your mats on the market.

Dont always sell stacks of everything, it's annoying, sometimes we only need 2-3 items and we don't like being forced to buy 99.

They'll sell, I guarantee! Could even price it much higher than usual price.

I'd rather buy 5 iron sand at 100 each than 99 at 20.

Obviously that doesn't apply to everything, shards and stuff are best bought in bulk, as are most items that need to be transformed to be usable (flax, ore, etc). Just do some research on what mats are used in which recipes, and I can guarantee you'll make crafters happy, and your wallet as well!

Well, with the limited amount of market board slots, and the rampant gathering class botting, frankly I'm surprised that anyone manages to sell anything for more than few gil at the moment.

But other than that, yes, it's a sound advice to try to sell materials in quantities that your customers require them. The biggest problem is that most people who level a gathering class have little to no interest in learning the market for the items they gather. I still see people selling Spruce in quantities of two, which makes no sense as the lumber takes three logs to make.

I always sell my stuff in stacks of 2s or 5s an it sells quicker then the 99 stacks probably because its cheaper too. Whenever I see logs of 99 selling for 15k I just laugh they're not hard to get..an people wonder why they have Gil problems...don't sell stacks of 99 for 15k!

Yeah it's really troublesome when i just need a few of mats.

I usually buy cheaper stacks, use some of it, then resell it with same price
or higher >:D

i also sell in small stacks never large and i put what i feel is a reasonable price always.

I sell by 5, 5, 10, 15, 30, 50. Unless it is something I know they need stacks of. Like Flax.

I thought it was a no-brainer really. In stacks of 5, if something costs say.. 100g per, and almost everyone is selling full stacks, it only makes sense to make smaller stacks that sell for more individually. So put up 5 and set the price at 150 or so.

Only, the problem with that is people seem to not get it. Shortly after I do that, I see people starting to sell full stacks for 150g. That, or others come and severely undercut me by putting their full stack at only 20g.

Selling stacks of 10 works well because people buy them for the Grand Company quests as well.

I'm that jerk salesman that sells in stacks of 6, 11, 101 etc. I know you want to buy my small stack, but you're going to buy 1 more than you really want. >:D

I agree with this frustration. And this is why I just gave up and started leveling everything so I can do it myself. Seriously. It is easier for me to just go get my own stuff. I can't afford the goods to level my carpenter otherwise because I can't afford buying stacks of 30 when I need 2. 90% of the things you can craft you only want to craft once or twice for exp, unless they give really good exp to time effort, or are easy to sell. Which means most of the things I want to buy I only need a few of. Buying in bulk has its place. But when you can only buy in bulk you effectively destroy the market. You either ensure everybody does everything, and thus nobody buys, or you ensure goods are sold for nothing, so nobody makes gil. Or with price fixing, you ensure only a handful of DoH exist, because they corner the market and are the only ones who can afford the goods.

I wish it was more commodities trading based like diablo 3 where you put your items up for a base price (no stacks or anything of the sort involved) and people can buy however many of an item they like. If your item is the cheapest at the time then they buy from you and so on. It works well, although my explanation needs a bit of work.

That would only lead to even greater undercutting. Most players with DOL leveled have insane amounts of raw materials stored, so much so that it's pretty much an endless well at this point. So the prices would hit 1-5 gil per piece on most of the raw materials, and it would stay that way. Nothing would be solved.

Give us more freakin' selling slots :D 20 aint enuff when I have a retainer full of random BOT items.

and more storage for those mats = =

You do realize that you can have 2 retainers right? Thus giving you more then 20 sellin g slots and more storage

So, everybody's stuff ends up in the same pile? Wouldn't the RMTers ruin the market by selling vast quantities at really low prices?

I've only ever used the open market system, where undercutting is the key to success ;)

I am perfectly fine with people matching their full stack price per item to my small stack price per item, just means next bunch I put up slightly higher if its still selling. Though have plenty of items considering vendoring as when they drop those prices so far down, I won't list my stuff at the price I could get from a vendor, and if its low in the first place I won't gather it outside of own use for GC supplying or crafting.

Yes, do all kinds of different stacks. I'm a new goldsmith and wanted to try out the gold nugget recipe. Checked gold ore and see all these large stacks until near the bottom there was someone smart enough to put them in stacks of 3. The exact amount needed for 1 synth. Guess who got the sale? :)

Well maybe if it didn't take me 6 stacks of logs just to gain 4 levels (with the xp bonuses from rested + food + scroll) I wouldn't put so many bulk purchases up. I just want the garbage gone, and have better things to do than put nearly 600 logs up 5 at a time.

If only it wasn't just a measly 40 slots at a time...

better option would b... they incorporate n option to buy the whole stack or x amount out of the stack since u already chose the price for 1 anyways

for example say we could sell stacks of 500 on market board, every1 could chose to say buy 10,50,100 however many we need since the seller wont lose any money eithier way ;/

Only way I would want this is if the seller got to decide if the buyer could do so. As it does not take much for people to crash the markets as is, and this would cause it to happen even easier.

i personally dont see how it would change the market at all, cause all its really doin is giving people option to buy x amount out of the stack bein stalled, afterall when settin stuff at retainer to sell u chose single price then amount of items u wanna sell its no difference really ;/

the seller isnt losing any money if they change it , its better then forcing ppl to buy 99 when they only need 1-2 :P

The only things I could think of are shards, crystals, etc but like people look for those in bulk anyway.

I generally try to sell items in stacks of 50 or less

Ever see all those huge stacks of items at lower prices not go anywhere? If could buy individuals off of them, many markets would tank overnight just from how much people undercut. Thats the entire reason why can sell small stacks at a higher value right now.

Ah, yeah, I forgot about shards/crystals/clusters. I have heaps of them from 1.x, so I don't need to buy them, and I do a lot of crafting, so I don't want to sell them, so I don't tend to think about buying and selling them.
