So... they're really allowing botters to run free?

I've watched the same two characters bot the crap out of Banemites in the north shroud, have reported it repeatedly... there still there...

Is this really going to be like the fishbots of FFXI where we just have to learn to accept that SE won't fix it?

Try to understand that there's situations for things. They might be botters but they also can be players who hacked another player's account and are using them to bot. So it's not as simple as banning them and such.

I will concede to that... however, I've seen more than this one character doing it... all from the same FC. It's just that after years of playing FFXI and seeing what little they did to do away with fishbots I don't have much faith in SEs willingness to solve that problem.

how do you define " bot the crap out of Banemites ". I've needed the diremite web for levelling my weaving and often have a run around killing the banemites. It can appear very "bot-like" to people passing through so how do you know it is a bot?

That being the key phrase. This dude is just standing in one spot, targeting them as soon as they spawn. "Maybe he's just faster than you?" Maybe... so I pulled the bomb that spawns by the same spot... as soon as it's in range... he tags it and takes it down.

I sincerely mean no disrespect but if you saw what I'm talking about and still had doubts you'd be retarded.

I saw an Archer a while back (a few days after release) camping a lone wind spirit spawn.

They'd tag it the moment it spawned. Then wait and repeat. She was there 16 hours later doing the same thing. So, I pulled a mob near her and sure enough, she tagged and killed it the moment it got near where the wind spirit spawned.

It's pretty easy to tell that player: "avertgasdf asdfeg" isn't a bot. For the others though it might need to be on a case by case basis.

For the gold spamming bots:
I really wish they would implement systems like: you can only use /shout every 15+ seconds in the three major cities (or everywhere should they decide to not try and encourage them to migrate to places where people level). They could also do things like prevent people from sending /shout so many times in a minute/hour etc. and extend that to PMing as well.
I also wish they would allow us to turn off /shout in specific areas (like gridania) that way we didn't have to put up with it or take our /shout out of the way entirely.

Bots are in almost every MMORPG though. Even the most successful one.

people throw the word bot around but i really dont think they know what it means

Your point would be what? Just because an act is common does not make it right. Beyond that, yes WoW (I'm not afraid to say it) does have botters... but they're nowhere NEAR as common as what I saw when I played FFXI or the week that I've played this game.

I'll give you that perhaps it's not a bot in the sense of it being a 3rd party software but at the VERY least the guy's using a macro'd keyboard, letting it run then stepping away for hours on end. Again, as I said before, if you (generally speaking) saw what I'm talking about and still wanted to doubt it or argue specifically how he's doing it... you need your head checked.

RMT & bots get removed faster on the JP servers. RMTs I reported on the JP server were gone in under 48 hours. NA/EU reported ones- 10 days since report, still there spamming away. I have been keeping track because I heard others reporting the same thing- JP servers get the bots & RMTs dealt with faster then NA/EU. I won't speak as to why, only SE knows why, I only know that playing on the JP server is more pleasant as the RMTs & bots are taken care of pretty fast.

They're not 'allowing' bots to run free. Its just there's so many and not enough staff at the moment to keep up with them. The other night I saw a bunch of characters pos hacking around the zone right outside ul'dah. The last statement I saw was that they had already banned 800+ accounts involved in RMT activity. Imagine what it's like at the moment, they're dealing with the unexpected number of players flooding the servers that werent prepared for it, while working to fix and expand game stability, they have hundreds of reports of hacked accounts with characters running around botting, spamming gil-selling in towns, sending tells to players advertising, while also dealing with the usual glitches in a new game and inevitable GM calls of players harrassing each other.

It's obvious the interest in ARR has been much bigger than SE anticipated, so it's not surprising they didnt have the staff to handle it. I imagine (at least hope) that when subs start up a good portion of the RMT and botting will stop, or at least become more subtle.

Probably because it's a JP game, and as above, there's more JP staff.

I have heard mention of a way to fight back against these combat bots....

I have heard rumors that if you initiate a trade with them while they're being attacked they stop fighting....


Someone who isn't botting would be able to cancel the trade and continue the fight...

Someone who isn't even at their computer is at the mercy of their intended target...

This work with mining bots as well but does not work on teleporting bots.

They're not "allowing" it, but there isn't an army of staff members to examine and zap every bot and every server instantly. they have to conduct investigations to make sure they don't ban people illegitimately, and so they usually end up banning people in batches, not one by one.
