I think there's a quest to learn how to swim somewhere in Limsa...
Joke aside, you can't until you do the level 15 quest sorry
Boooo, and a hearty LOL to the joke. Thanks for the info ^^
Why would you want to leave, a majority of the dungeons and quests are based off the story line. Even if you Fate Party to 50, you still have to turn around and do the low level quests to advance the story to unlock things. Almost everything in this game is story based, not level based. If you are trying to play with friends, just rush through the quests to level 15, it can easily be done in a single play sitting just by following the quest lines.
Even if you skip the quests and just rush to level 15, you still cant leave until you unlock the option in story quests, so you might as well just buckle down and do them.
Just to be clear, there's nothing stopping you from leaving. You can run to the other cities on foot if you really want. Its just a long trip, and a dangerous one at that. If you really feel the urge, it's possible. You'd be better off with a high level escort to handle aggro if you can find one, and you will have to go back to progress the story.
Isn't there a boat that takes you to Thanalan :)
In Beta3 there was a ferry in Outer La Noscea that cost 50,000 gil to take you away earlier than airships.
you can go inland just takes time and you may get killed by strong enemies. Take lots of potions and a strong friend.
Wow, arrogant much? If he says he wants to leave, he wants to leave. Maybe he wants to pick up a job from another city. Maybe he's not playing with the "race to 50" mentality and just wants to tour the world. Maybe he doesn't care about the main storyline. Maybe he wants to be a crafter and doesn't care to raise his combat job right now.
It wouldn't kill SE to make this option available to people. If you can do it between Ul'dah and Gridania, you should be able to leave Limsa Lominsa as well.
There is a way you can leave Limsa Lominsa at level 1.
First, you must run to an Aetheryte crystal outside of town - like Summerford Farms aetheryte - to get the "Teleport" ability.
Then you join a Free Company who has an FC house that is not in Limsa - so, a house in the Goblet (Uldah) or in Lavender Beds (Gridania). More than likely they will have a Miniature Aetheryte in their yard so that you can use Teleport and go straight to their house. Make sure to have enough gil for the teleport.
Tada! No longer in Limsa.
Run to the exit of* the housing area.
Remember to grab the other main city aetheryte crystals!
He might want to pick up all the other classes early, which is something I wanted to do back in the day but could not. Limsa Lominsa is at a disadvantage compared to Ul'Dah and Gridania because you can travel between the latter quite easily at level 10. For Limsa Lominsa even the ferry to Vesper Bay is locked until you get the airship pass. I never did understand why that was the case, I mean I understood why you could not use the airship without a pass, but to lock out the the boat too?
Still on the positive side, it doesn't take long to get from 10-15 and you don't miss out on much.
I verified that on my (level 7 GLA) Ul'dah alt on Balmung yesterday when a friend invited me to his FC and it's indeed true - once I accepted the Free Company invite, the FC house's aetheryte automatically appeared in the list of available teleports, and thus teleport warped me straight to Mist without having the airship pass. Using teleport to a mini-aethertye on a Free Company house is the only way you can bypass the airship pass requirement to access an area outside of Limsa Lominsa before level 15 (or, alternatively, Limsa Lominsa from Gridania/Ul'dah).
This is just my speculation but I believe the reason why SE made it so that those who start in Limsa Lominsa can't access the ferry to travel to Ul'dah/Gridania before having the airship pass is that the development team were wanting to guide a new player into the game's content gradually, and hence it was to encourage players to focus on learning the ropes so to speak in their home nation before going out and exploring the wider world (hence why also you can't change classes until you've gone through the quests for your starting class's Guild to level 10, and have the Innroom and Guildleves unlocked in the same way.)
This is also the reason why ACN gets the Physick spell - it's so that those who start in Limsa have a way of healing themselves without having to access Gridania to learn CNJ for Cure, and thus the ferry is locked accordingly. It's not something I agree with, but I understand Yoshi's reasons for structuring the game in this way.
don't know if this is working or not, but...
You can form party with someone else, and have he/she teleport somewhere else outside La Noscea. You should have the option to follow that teleport.
Just saying. lol
From what I'm aware that 1.0 trick longer works - it was changed in that even in a party, you can't teleport to an aetheryte you haven't yet 'attuned' to. If you're in a party and they teleport to such a location, it will throw up an error on your screen saying something like 'Unable to teleport'. So that's not an option for ARR anymore.
Yes, I have done the method I described numerous times with lowbie alts for various reasons, such as: passing FC lead to alts without an airship pass to hang on to my 'personal' houses and making those alts garden, making joke characters and sleeping in an FC mate's bed ( ^_^!) , or just trying to get to or out of Limsa with an alt to grab Aetherytes early. Things like that.
Yep, you must have 'attuned' outside a city first to get the Teleport ability.
I was waiting for this but it hasn't happened so...

It really didn't take me all that long to get to level 15 tbh. Even if the OP wasn't planning on leveling a combat class just yet, it still would pay off to get one to at least 15 before turning to crafting or whatever else. It might take a night or two at most.
