So far, no updates. The gold spammers are still in force. You can't even go into the field and escape them. I've had to go to the extremes on my settings to try to stop them. They still get through. What bugs me the most is that special buzzer to announce them when they spam. Makes me feel like Square is personally backing them
Let me preface this by saying that I too am very tired of the constant spam in chat and /tell by the RMTs, but to say that SE is not doing anything about it or giving us updates, that is stretching it a bit.
On the frontpage of The Lodestone they are giving multiple updates every day, and going to the "Notices" section so we can see more than the last few updates, will reveal the following posts on the first page concerning the subject at hand:
Regarding RMT Advertisements
[Important] Warning Concerning the Security of Your Account
Regarding RMT Advertisements (Sep. 12)
So, as you can see they do give updates, just because you chose not to visit the official site for the game, does not mean they are not trying to keep us informed.
In 5 days, they permanently banned 828 accounts for RMT activity:
Quote:
Having confirmed in-game advertisements for RMT* sites, we have taken the following actions to address this issue.
*RMT (Real Money Trade) is selling account or game data with actual currency in the real world.
[Period]
Sep. 5, 2013 to Sep. 10, 2013 (PDT)
- Accounts receiving disciplinary action for RMT advertisement: 828 accounts
- Action Details: Permanent ban from FINAL FANTASY XIV
In addition to chat filters, we will continue to address RMT activity through cooperation with our GM teams and STF (Special Task Force). When you see an RMT advertisement, please file a report by using the in-game command [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].
Thing is, unless you take away the means by which they're able to spam, banning accounts doesn't really help. You only need one RMTer to keep the general chat permanently blocked with spam - and there's at least three in Ul'dah right now.
But yeah, I appreciate that fixing it is going to take time.
Some tips to get rid of the spam: You can remove shouts and yells for your main chat tab and have an alternate tab that has them so you can still see them if you choose to look out for them. Also, if you get a tell from a RMT spammer, you can just type /blist add <r> and it will blacklist the last person that sent you a tell.
Let's see... 518 + 828 = 1,346 accounts banned so far... many of which were hacked. Guess they had it coming not using the free software app or the physical security token.
thanks for the help just wanted to know how there dealing with the spaming.
I don't know about other servers, but I haven't seen the spammers on Lich for a long time now.
Not even a private message, nothing.
...
It got really quiet on the chats now. xD
A reckoning is coming. That is known for sure. Just when is the main argument being pressed right now. SE probably wants to keep the particulars on what they are doing under wraps until they are about to release it. That way RMT spammers won't have a chance to adapt right away.
What I have noticed is its usually only 2 to 3 spammers in one city who spam the same thing over and over. I just click on their name and select the command to /tell them, then I use their name in my chat box to add to my blacklist. It usually works for a few hours before they switch bots.
Frankly - SE will never ever manage to deal with RMT spammers - that's just a nature of the "game". The only possible solution would be if SE itself would actually sell gill in game. Where is a demand there ALWAYS will be a supply - be it official or unofficial - so why not make it official instead, get rid of RMT for good and make the money in the process as well? Will it ruin economy? Who knows - most likely yes in a way but at least we'll not spammed by all those RMTs like now who're ruining it anyway ...
I hope they never do that. It doesn't break the economy or anything. But it lowers them to the level of F2P MMO's. Of which, they have sworn they will never do.
They will never kill all of the RMT spammers. But they will make it much more difficult for them to spam. Once they can slow them down, they will be able to snipe them down faster. Instead of 3 RMT spammers posting every second, they will be limited to every few minutes, if not more.
If you control the flow of RMT spamming, you have nothing to fear. Chopping off the head only spawns two more in its place. Better to make their job three times as hard rather than make it easier for everyone to buy Gil.
As it stands, this game does not need a person to have tons of Gil right now. You can make it really easy by selling rarer crafting mats and crafting itself. I don't see a huge amounts of recipes that give any gear that is end game quality that won't be replaced your first level 50 dungeon.
Chatbox was useless last night on public chanel. Basically the only way you could use it would be to private chat. If they don't intend to fix the spamming then just remove the chatbox and give us some kind of voip.
They are in the main drag of cities.
You must to go:
Old Gridania to escape.
Lower Limnsa.
The Steps oh Thal'd whatever to escape. At least for me anyway.
But the random Tells from random places is annoying. Still scared I'ma get hacked hur.
Sucks for the newbies of this game...
