A Realm Reborn: Roleplaying Community Wishes

So here's something for all us RP'ers to post our wishes and concerns to better our Role Playing experience in FFXIV: A Realm Reborn.

I for one would like to see an actual sleeping emote. Elezen males get this awkward sleeping position that looks like they're reading a magazine under dim light while doing their logout sleep animation in the inns.

Another thing I'd like to see is table top emotes. When our character is sitting at a table, I'd like to see them actually prop their arms up on it and utilize that space in front of them for more direct emotional exchange. Like for example the /furious emote while sitting at a table could have the character slam their hands down on the table and stand up with an aggressive growl before sitting back down after a few seconds of standing. Also when doing some emotes while sitting in chairs or on stools, our arms just fall off to the side and it looks kind of awkward sitting down when the emote looks better standing up.

Another that I've seen people want is a longer or permanent /kneel emote until we move our character.


Another thing I could see in a good perspective is allowing us to choose which of our mounts we would like to call to battle as a companion. While only being able to choose one at a time and talking to a chocokeep to change which mount you summon to aid you as a companion. It'd be neat if each mount had their own specific point allocation section as well. It could also bring up the option that say your Legacy Chocobo you want to be a DPS, Your Gobbue you bring up as a Tank, and your Floating Eye could be a healer mount.
This could also be expanded to even additional barding for mounts that are not Chocobos. I for one would LOVE to call my Couerl to battle with some fierce looking armor on him. After all.. his description does say he's a battle-ready Couerl.

Just some of my thoughts. What does everyone else thing?

Sounds like good ideas! I'd additionally dig other permanent, looping or 'stance' emotes. Arms crossed over chest 'til you move, /looking 'til you move, maybe a /lean for vertical surfaces, a /talk that gives talking animations with a handwave or few, good for long RP speeches or getting people's attention when Raid planning, too.

I love the suggestions here. I was thinking when I first tried to do a /sleep or /laydown I was sad that it wasn't there. I can't think of any to add to the list at the moment but here's the support anyway.

I would definitely dig a /lean for walls!

Have always liked some stuff where you pull out an object, like a /drink or something. Where you pull out a cup and occasionally take a sip until you move. CoH had some good ones.

I really want Miqo'te ears to be animated for the facial expressions. It's really cool how in most of the regular emotes the ears are used to enhance the expression. But for the pure facial expressions, the ears remain stationary. It would add a lot to immersion if they folded their ears back when you did /scared /sad /annoyed etc.
It would also be cool if the ears maybe twitched a little from time to time to make them seem more real.

Another one could be to update some of the Female Miqo'te's animations to reflect equally to those of the males. Such as ear wiggles in some animations like the males have.

Star Trek Online made me appreciate how important it is to be able to get people together quickly at a central location - ie some kind've guild hall, or private location like housing; in STO's case this meant the fleet starbase, or inviting friends to meet beam onto your bridge.

Guild Wars 2 suffered horribly due to the absence of this; having no means of "free" teleporting, and no guild owned facilities or even private housing, which made it harder to spontaneously meet up with and interact with other guild members or RP'rs, and meetings could be easily crashed by griefers. FF14 for now is languishing with the same problem (While our Rp group *has* a technical central location, due to it's physical remoteness and size of the world, it's rare people cross paths without going out of their way to meet up - being able to "teleport" to a centralised location and then be sent back to where you left off is immeasurably valuable and is something that i feel should be a high priority, far more important than mere emotes or miqo'te butts)

If i had free reign to do it how I'd want, I'd see to it that a free company should have a central "guild hall" facility, with a number of pre-built templates. (ie. gridanian conjurer's glade, sagolii desert camp, la noscean cliff lighthouse, shady ul'dar dive). All members of the free company should be able to freely teleport to the hall from wherever they are, and be able to freely return to where they were after (no fees incurred but not useful for genuinely travelling anywhere), this'd provide non Rp'rs with a theme for their free company while using it's facilities, Rp'rs can use it to, well Rp in privacy, and it provides a centralised meeting place and facilities for the free company members.

I'd love to role play in this game but I didn't see any rp servers. Are there unofficial ones?

Balmung is the Unofficial one of the RP community, with Gilgamesh being a gathering place for those that dont want a Legacy server

What my friend here is trying to say is that Balmung is one of two Unofficial RP servers, with Gilgamesh being the non-legacy variety. Y'know, only with less condescension.

I didn't say anywhere that people not wanting a Legacy server are bad or icky, just stated the fact.

Most animations as emotes, with or without flashy effects I don't mind. Like, literally. I'd like to be able to kick someone when we act out a fight :(

+1 for sleeping / unconcious though. Really need this. As well as permanent stance (pray etc) emotes.

Still waiting on our vanity system too, but it was mentioned as 1.1 or after so I'm willing to wait.

Well we have a /blowkiss emote.. But I think a /hug or a /kiss would required a little more work in the coding as you'd need to have two player characters interact together at the same time for it to happen. And even then if it was initiated by one player targeting another; Non-Rper's may abuse it to purposely anger and grief us Role Players. Also there's the varying height differences of each race. It's too much to program. :\ If every race was the same height consistently within their race; I'd see no problem. But since everyone can choose their own height; you'll have issues with clipping and some kisses going straight into someones face or in other cases; missing them completely.

I think for your first suggestion a "Duel" option would be more appropriate! :o

And it's also 2.1 that we get our vanity slots. :P As the game we are playing is Version 2 of FFXIV. :>

I would like to see some new dance emotes. Again with Elezen Males.. their dance is very... un-jigy. It's more like he's just shuffling his feet around than doing a jig.

I'd prefer actions actually, duels are difficult to do for fake outcomes, an unlucky crit or low levels means they can end unexpectedly, or you have to do it nude, making it look daft :P

Eh, it's just too much to code and program though. I haven't played an MMO yet that had a set outcome for a 1 on 1; even if it's through RP.

For EU, some of us on ffxivrealm.com, had to decide where to go.

Some were purposing Moogle, but that's the "hardcore elite" server with a horde of wannabe, and the French chosen one too, so we decided to go for Odin as the Germans finally decided to choice Shiva.

US servers were purposed too, but many experienced that in other games, and the incompatibility between time zone, late night events and real life work is proved.

- Official RP servers with free character migration, I took their absence as a real betrayal and a gap in marketing from Square Enix :O
- /thank emote would be useful.
- /sleep would be resting when we can't afford to go back to an auberge.
- Fall damages should kill if from high, like 10m.
- No more mounts inside houses.
- Survival system for us and our mounts: weather, wet, cold, hot, fatigue, resting, food and drink.
- Second names for retainers, only visible by us to do not clutter the market place.
- Specific barding for chocobos, related to your class, job, e.g. a miner barding for a miner, with small beer keg, lantern, spare tools, saddlebags, but also a dragoon bard for a dragoon, et cetera. Like in LotRO: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Mounts
- Wind orientation system related to specific mobs who can smell your presence if you do not approach against the wind.
- I want to become the captain of a boat one day and it will be my house I can sail from Limsa to all other relatively safe places in the world :O
- A home, related to the lore, for Lalafels and Keepers of the moon, as we don't have any when all others seems to have one.
- Chat bubbles as mentioned, but with a toggle option.

• crossarms emote (held permanently until changed)
• leaning against walls emote (permanent until changed)
• kneel emote (permanent until changed)

The first two are separated from the rest, as they keep the roleplayers engaged in looking at the characters instead of a chatbox and are therefore given priority.

I think the system you're talking about at the beginning of the separation is actually in use in a game called Archage. I've watched my friend play it and it's really interesting to see.

And something else to add to the list.. FOOTPRINTS! WHERE ARE MY FOOTPRINTS?! WHERE ARE MY CHOCOBO'S FOOTPRINTS?! WHERE ARE MY COUERL'S FOOTPRINTS?!

I dream of this. A brand new server, maybe call it Mime or Freelancer.

Going off what others have suggested for a /lean against vertical objects. Why not have new sitting animations? I recently got my Floating Eye mount and I really like the way my Elezen sits on it. D:

I have another idea that would further expand the RP communities interactive options.

How about when targeting your Companion or Minion and doing some emotes at them and having them react? It'd be pretty neat in my eyes.

Please add:
- a /thankyou emote and a /sorry emote (these are substantial especially for RP, but also for communication in general)
- a /sleep or /lie emote
- stance emotes like crossed arms, leaning or hands on hips. These are already in the game for NPCs, they'd just need to be 'unlocked' for PCs.
Also, please make /kneel, /pray and /dance a toggle (like /sit).

Furthermore: The talk animation is great, but could be improved even more if it would change according to the final punctuation of the message. Period for normal, ! for a more animated animation, ? for a question. (This could incorporate already existing animations like /huh.)

My last suggestion would probably be more complicated to program: it would be great to have a macro function that allows us to use chat text as a variable. As an example:
Executing this macro:
/sad
/say <text>
Would activate the chat tab on /say and once enter has been pressed, send the message that has been typed in while the character does the /sad emote. (Or we type first and then instead of pressing enter execute the macro, for the same end effect.)

I feel this would have similar issues to the /kiss /hug suggestion but I would really like to see a /highfive animation.
There have been far too many times that I have wanted to celebrate with someone and have not had the right emote for the occasion where a highfive would fit in.

Besides this I think /sleep would definitely be a great improvement to what we already have.
