Barbershop/More Variety in character customization!!!!

[/INDENT]Ok as a player who has played FFXI and now FFXIV for quite some time I have to say that I am greatly disappointed with the lack of character differentiation in game!!! If you run around on a server for about an hour you will probably start to notice that most of the people around you look very similar. Considering that most of the hairstyles are previous styles used in FFXI, I would think that the FFXIV team would've done something to upgrade the previous or make more styles available to players other than, highlights and, a pretty simplistic color palette with a few more options...

[/INDENT]It would be super awesome if FFXIV had way more variety to the player base as far as characters are concerned. I mean if all the classes already have the same gear type models for the best gear, and we're all going to be hunting down the best items we can possibly wear, why not lets something like facial features or hairstyles really help identify the player base. Take WoW, Aion, AoC, SWG, most of the MMO's people still play for example, they may not have a plethora of differences in the character design aspects of the game but I think most people could tell each other apart with names off having known a player for long enough lol.

The addition of something like a barbershop would be great for FFXIV seeing as how one didn't exist in XI. Not only would it help with players who seek to be different from everyone else around them, but it would also help emersion. I would be way more pumped if i was running around and didn't see a bunch of Lalafell who looked incredibly similar to me lol. I really think FFXIV could benefit from something like this even if it wasn't an addition of more variations in character creation as much as just a place to go and reset you're basic look. What do you guys think? :cool:

Second. It was nice to see the original styles from 11, however I would expect now, years later, a better graphics engine in place, that we could see more dynamic customization in our chars, including weight, and appendage length. I'm not saying go with AION, where you can look ridiculous but there should be some level of customization. especially since we are all in it for gear. how many type 1, hair style 1 elfs are you gonna see in the exact same gear. probably 1 every 5 steps.
Please let us have more variety. your engine is capable of producing a very dynamic range in styles. Use its power.

i think it would help to be able to further customize your toons apperiance even after the toon is made it will help differinciate your toon from other ppls toons

I think they have said they are going to add more options, and a barber shop so current players can take advantage of them. Correct me if I am wrong here? I would have liked more short hair styles than there were at creation time, and the ability to give myself a dye job later on would be nice :D

I doubt its as high priority as other fixes though. They really need to get the game service fee ready first.

I would like it if they added new hairstyles periodically. It would be like the way fashions change over time, and add some life to the world. Perhaps along with new expansion NPCs sporting the same styles, sort of like the way a new star in the theater launches new looks.

I sort of agree that it would be nice if you could choose a non heroic appearance or body type like frail or obese, but I think that armor models should still be sized by the developers and not morphed on the fly by the engine. Facial customization is nice because it really doesn't require them to add to the number of mesh's they have to create to accommodate all the body types people could make with sliders. My hair is the same as lot of other players, but my face is fairly unique unlike with XI where you got 6 or 8 faces, and two hair colors per face iirc. I'm used to looking like everyone else from playing XI, and I love the way XIV looks overall. I want them to fix the things they really need to in order to make the PS3 a huge success before they worry about a barber shop.

This is a great idea. It ties in with the personalization I was talking about when I suggested having a possible name change. When progressing through such an epic to come storyline, I'm sure you want to have a character that is unique in every way possible to take down that path.

XIV has great graphic potential for more varied character customisation. It's such a shame we're not allowed to make our characters look more unique. The lack of customisation for Highlander Hyurs is especially criminal.

I've been trough a great deal f2p and p2p games and I've always paid great attention to making my character as interesting to look at for me. I easily spent at least an hour or more while creating each of those characters and picking up a name for them.

We really could use more hair styles, facial hair, facial attributes (birthmarks, freckles, wrinkles....), or if you want to take it even further, some games let you go as far as to let you customize eyelid shades (not actual make-up), lip colour, body hair, body markings/tattoos.

Having a barber shop or style shop (an actual building, not just some random NPC standing in the street with those options), where we could change our hair styles and hair dye from time to time for gil would be awesome. As someone else mentioned, releasing new hair styles from time to time would be a great idea. Could even put a series of quests where you need to get the style book or manual for the NPC before you could actually flaunt the style. Could even have an info-board in there somewhere telling us which hair style and which colours are the most popular among players in Eorzea. So many wonderful options to play with.

Before I made my FFXIV character I knew I wanted bright orange hair (like the color of the chin length hair style from ff11) but they didn't make any orange hair for miqo'te or any race i don't think. :(

When they add barber shops i hope they let us change skin color too ^^ it would be awesome if they let us change everything but I understand if they make it so we can't change our face.

I would love to see alot more variety. I'm talking like 5 times more for each race and gender. In this day and age there is no reason this should not have already been the case. I mean when the game was first announced one of the things alot of people noticed was that the majority of the character models were the exact same ones from FFXI and everyone assumed they were place holders and low and behold they were not. It's sad because the game has such beautiful character models and the fact that we can't make ourselves 100% unique is sad. I don't like going around and seeing 100's(literally) of players that look exactly the same as I do.

What I think should be done is they should add a ton of new options in character creation and once that is done give everyone a free character remake. Keep your ranks and all that but you can 100% remake your characters appearance. Then after that make it a payed option(I mean crysta needs to be for something right?). In the game itself we should have the ability to go to a barber who can change your hair style and color as well as a few other things(facial hair, make up and anything else they can think up). In my opinion you should not be able to have the same hair styles as some of the storyline NPC's(future ones that will look unique not the generic ones they have so far) Because then everyone will run around with them and those characters won't look unique anymore.

It would also be nice to be able to dye armor every color regardless of material. For example have it so they can be crafted as they are now but have a NPC that can make Velveteen dyed the color of linen or cotton to add more variety to how your character can look. Or perhaps even pay for the ability to choose the color from a palette that has far more options then those which can be crafted.

At the end of the day everyone should feel different and anything no matter how big or small it is should help make that a reality. Right now everyone looks the same and everyone wears the same gear(and most crafts don't bother making many of the alternate colors so we don't even have that much).
