Petition: An Enmity Stat

I'm actually not having hate trouble. Any that I've had are (legitimately, lol) due to lag, or due to my own screwup.

But I don't see an enmity stat *anywhere* in the game. It seems to be that it should be attached to something.

As our gear improves, the margin between how much damage I do and how much damage a lancer does will widen vastly. As our gear improves, the more potent heals will become, and the more enmity the healers will generate.

I have played Marauder yet, but Flash's enmity is probably fixed (hate mods like Shield Oath being the only exception), which means that in time, Flash won't be "enough" to maintain while switching targets and maintaining solid hate as needed.

In Marauder's case, Overpower wakes things up, which causes healers to have to heal more, creating more enmity, while the damage of overpower isn't going to scale like the damaging attacks it's competing against.

So give us an enmity stat, or tie it to something, but only applicable while on the job (STR, VIT, even maybe piety--again, only applicable while on PLD/GLA/WAR/MRd).

I realize that enmity stances like Shield Oath give them a knob to turn, but I'm also familiar with these companies, even SE specifically, and putting off changes, while they're considered.

The attempt of this post is to get them to start considering now =D.

Read more than just the topic title please.

I'm not having hate problems, merely that this might change as the game progresses because most MMOs forget to keep the tanks in balance with the other sources of enmity.

This isn't like other MMOs where DPS have a gagillion different DPS stats.
It also isn't like other MMOs where tank weapons have inherently less DPS.

MRD/PLD gear comes with crit, determination, accuracy, and/or skill speed.
MRD/PLD weapon has the same damage as other melee DPS weapons.

No, this is pointless and if you're having trouble holding aggro you're doing something wrong.

Emnity isnt a stat...replace the word emnity with threat and thats what it is...no mmo has ever had a "threat" stat, emnity is the FFXIV word for threat

Unless this was just lobbed on top of the current stats in gear, I'd hate to lose parry/crit/hp/strength in favour of a emnity boost. I wouldnt use materia for it and frankly, barring being kept from a boss due to an aoe or people going in at full power before I've landed a savage blade, I don't loose threat on a single target. Aoe is a different matter but, PLD is "supposed" to not put out as much hate in an aoe. But nothing a provoke+flash/shield throw won't fix.

Actually there was an Enmity Stat in 1.0, but like with most stats like enmity you needed alot to make it overly worthwhile (I believe it was 1 Enmity = .1% bonus threat per action), and in turn you had to make sure you didn't let your other stats suffer so much it made the bonus moot in the end.

SE decided to streamline stats a bit and cut down the number of different stats we actually have (there were 64 types of materia after all). I for one am glad they did away with it, between balancing between VIT, STR, Acc, and Determination we don't need nor should have to balance more stats than other jobs just to be functional. It's kinda like how in early 1.0 you had to level most of the classes to 45+ to get all the abilities to be a viable GLA, most other classes only had to level one or two to 45+ in turn to be viable, I shouldn't have to tell you that sounds like a load of bull.

Someone has never played Star Trek Online.

We will see how it will play out once the stats start running. Like in 1-2 years probably.
After all there was a reason we got Vengeance in wow.

But for now you have str and determination for focusing on enmity while still getting some tankbang out of it.

Enmity is directly related to strength as DMG = Enmity. In addition we have our enmity multipliers to increase the gap with other DPS classes. As such, pushing in more attribute points to strength will result in increased enmity. However, as enmity build-up is faster than that of DPS, it's not a requirement.

I smell troll. There's no way anyone would want an enmity stat seeing the solid foundation of threat generation by tanks in this game. It's better than I could have expected and would want it no other way.

Determination is a thing.

Kinda skipping ahead, I think Strength is the closest thing to an enmity stat at the moment.

In Shield Oath / Defiance with an added enmity attack, any damage you do generates x4 enmity. So if you invest in Strength accessories or allocation, you'll boost your enmity generation, though depending on gear, at some expense to Vitality.

I know not quite the same as having a secondary stat that works in conjunction with Strength (or in other jobs' cases, against their enmity).

do more dmg, thats your threat. your threat is the dmg you do times a multiplier just like everything else in the game. want to do more threat? do more dmg? better gear = more dmg = more threat ergo better gear = more threat.
