I accidentally responded to a gil seller last night.

A gil seller /tell'd me and I accidentally responded when I meant to /shout it to someone else.

Am I going to be okay? On the site it says not to respond to gil sellers.

You should be fine. I don't think it's possible for them to mine your information from an in-game tell.

I think the "don't respond" is more of an encouragement not to harass the gold sellers, so you don't get yourself in trouble with a harassment report.

Man, people are getting paranoid, and I don't blame them when every day there's like 3 new threads of "my account has been hacked".

If your password is unique and you only use it for this service, it's a 25+ characters long password and your email isn't compromised in any way, you'll be fine, don't worry.

Also scan your PC regularily for viruses/trojans/potential keyloggers, and don't visit any shady sites.

I love when I get so many tells at once so I got a conversation going on with friends and a linkshell and I accidentally tell one of those gil sellers back with a complaint about gil sellers or some comment about adding to the blacklist. =D

I never mention specific character names in those tells, however...

They never respond back either, so.... */shrug*

The banhammer cometh, and none will be spared.

If I got a /tell i would usually reply with a very hearty "???? OFF AND DIE!!!" Something like that.

But I don't anymore because when I reply, then they KNOW that I am a real live legit player, not a bot, and will mark me as a possible customer and it will just never end in /tells.

So now i just blacklist them, and FAST. I don't think they can hurt you via /tells, you're safe ^^

I've tried to get a rise out of them saying the other gil spammer was cheaper...

I answer them often, i tell them to shut the fuck up.

I've responded to ta tell from them. I simply put "you've been reported ^^". Haven't heard a peep since in tells.

I added one as a friend by accident thinking I was looking at my blacklist and I'm not too worried. I wouldn't be responding to every single one either, since these are robots that don't read tells.

I did once, or maybe twice, too. Never got a reply, but only more /tells from other RMTs.

most wont msg u back cuz they use a bot and r afk all they care is people see the website link and they hope people goto it and buy then they hack them and they come on the forums and qq about being hacked and more and more spam cuz people keep buying the gil they most likely don't have cuz it is a scam I don't see how they could even have any gil

I'm not worried that the gil sellers will get to my account. I'm worried that Square Enix will ban me for accidentally replying to them in the first place, but you guys definitely responded with worse things than I did, haha.

I said "I know these", but it was a reference to someone in Coerthas about how similar the music was to Terra's theme from VI and they were talking about there are similar themes in XIV.

Lol, don't worry, even if you had replied something like "hell yeah I'll buy every single one of your gil like I always do" you wouldn't be banned, GMs have means to check gil transactions between players and stuff like that, if you haven't done anything wrong you won't get banned.

It's just that they are annoying as hell, spamming the chat and people ending up getting hacked, let it be for visiting those links or whatnot.

Because most gil sellers are just programs running on a PC set up to spam messages. Yes: including the ones that /tell players.

I have responded to tem with quotes of Buddha. Maybe they will find mind, become enlightened, and have a more productive life. Well at least their bot will, and they will wake up realizing the bot moved on.
