I'm also wondering about this as well - but for whm. I keep hearing everyone complain about people going in with af1 and raging about it. So what's the "correct" progression of gear/tokens? And I'm not going to get ALL darklight before going into AK... that's a ridiculous number of runs and you still get ToP doing AK. Should I just prioritize jewelery..? I have bad luck with getting weapon drops too. Is the lvl 44 green weapon from GC alright for AK/spamming Ifrit hardmode until I get an Ifrit weapon? (I don't actually know when the hardmode primal fights unlock so forgive me if I have orders incorrect).
I think it's silly that you have to do AK before unlocking the lvl 50 stuff from GC. :/ I'm almost maxed with my credits - I'd love to spend some on lvl 50 gear.
Just finished Main storyline. I'm farming the tomes right now for Darklight. Is that the correct way to go? What should I be doing after finishing the main story?
that place drops like lvl 49 gear right?
I can say with certainty that your original AF gear, with a level 40-45 weapon will end in failure. The weapon is the most important for all classes, including healing, and you don't realize just how much it adds until you go from using a level 40 staff and Cure 1 doing 500, to switching it for a level 50 weapon and having cure 1 do 700. Not to mention the increases to the rest of your healing spells.
Now a decent level 50 weapon with your AF gear isn't too bad for AK. The DPS may struggle a bit here and there, but for the most part you should manage to squeeze by. However if you are having troubles, go back to Wanderers Palace and farm that for a bit. The gear is literally 5 Item Levels below that of AK. Or you could run the 8 man dungeons for the storyline again and just stock up on Philosophy stones and buy some gear from the vendors with it. I personally started with the jewelry, as it was my biggest upgrade at the time.
AF and Ifrit or better weapon should be good.. However people will still bitch but as a DD its more about zerging the mobs down in AK and not getting hit with AoEs and one shots.. Just because a few people say you can't do something doesn't mean it's not possible. Hell Ifrit is a prime example of that. I've killed Ifrit many times without BLM or SMN but A LOT of people drop if you don't have one..
The requirements are what you end up with after finishing your story line imo. The dungeon is not hard. The only real threat I see is for the dps on Demon Wall.
If you don't dps down the wall fast enough you die. I know my friends and my self did the first crawl with pretty much what was stated above. AF1 and we beat it.
It does get a lot easier as you gear up but, anyone that says you have to have more then af1 is completely full of crud.
My party was able to beat it just fine when I was wearing full AF with GC lance. We did wipe few times but that was my first run.
Most people do just fine with some Darklight accessories and their Ifrit weapon. You can also run Wanderer's Palace and Aurum Vale for some slight upgrades/side grades from your AF as well as get some tomes of philosophy.
Tanked the place just fine with AF1 and my level 44 GC axe.
We went as a party and we were all on mumble together, which im sure helped quite a bit.
Like has been said before, Demon wall is a DPS race, and so is the last boss. Not sooo much the last boss, but if he gets off 5 Catastrophes its over.
Do this run regularly with my free company mates and most of us are still in AF and upgrading with whatever we get from AK. I have a staff from 1.0 with ilvl 52. Our tank has been doing AK with 41 sword and 44 shield(lol). Just know the boss strategies and it's cake. I'm the healer so that helps a bunch lol. This dungeon isn't as difficult as most make it out to be. It offers Tier 1 and Tier 2 tomestones so it's clearly meant to be farmed by fresh 50s.
AF 1 , LVL 44 GC weapon, 40+ Jewlery, 40+ Belt, Perform your proper rotation, Kill the adds and stun when they try to AoE, stay on the bosses as long as you can.
People severely over rate this dungeon.
For WHM, It's not as serious, just be smart and the requirements are pretty much the same.
The DPS threshold for Demon Wall isn't that serious. Same goes for the final boss. Anything higher than the requirements I listed is just fluff to make the run faster.
Just use limits smartly and pay attention and the dungeon is far from difficult.
Alright so here my problem I have a champions lance with 2 materia melds on it for the proto type relic weapon. I haven't traded it in yet because I still have not seen the spear drop in Bowl of embers (Hard). I was going to get my GC spear but I have to beat Ak in order to get the promotion. Almost every time I get into AK which is about 50mins. Someone in the party ask me to leave because they said I don't have dps when we haven't even move>.<.

Thats my character stats atm do you guys think its good enough for AK or just spam Bowl of embers until I get a spear?
@Timeless : That's more than enough, so long as you play your role properly.
You are perfectly fine, however who you get teamed up with is a different story. Duty Finder typically finds brand new level 50's who have just unlocked the dungeon and haven't upgraded their weapon from god knows when. Your gear and weapon are better then most I've seen at level 50 in random dungeons though.
Alright thanks Cynric.
Yeah no problem, If anyone turns you down they're just being ridiculous. If we could choose people from other worlds and party with them, I'd gladly run with you.
I agree with everyone here. I started doing it with AF and ilvl 55 GC weapon and the GC level 44 bladed shield. Had some people teach my friend and I the fights, and we have been one shotting it ever since.
I think for a tank get atlest DL belt or something similar ( since there no AF belt) as long as you using 45ish gear you sould be fine. (darklight belt only cost 400ish tomb stone)
bear minimum for weapon should be lv 45 (Green) or more, atlest. ( just for Demon wall, DPS race) ideally, Wonderer's Palace Darklight weapon or iffy.
You can do it in AF with a lvl 50 wep.
I'm highest GC rank and haven't touched any lvl50 dungeons....
Though I am Legacy lol.
AF is absolutely fine. As a weapon, try getting the grand company lieutenant one minimum. It's very simple to get and does the job well.
From running this dungeon you'll get upgrades anyway, via drops and from the tombstones.
AF armor ... not be an idiot and dodge thats the requirements ive done this instance w/ war/pld tanks whm or shc healers 2blm for dps 1mnk 1brd and 1mnk 1 lnc on many occasions w/ ease.
It's not so much gear requirements you need to worry about so long as you have af, a recent weapon and your accessories aren't 20 levels behind. Worry more about proper rotations, cooldown usage, positioning and avoiding bad stuff. I've seen a drg with the lvl 44 gc weapon outdamage a monk with ifrit weapon on demon wall (a bad fight for dragoons) simply because he knew his job... and the monk clearly didn't.
If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a group on your server for your first few runs in AK... there's quite a few toxic <censored>'s in DF who will quit immediately on encountering someone new to the instance or rage and harass you for one innocent mistake. I think (hope) this will get better soon though when people have to start paying to play.
you can go in with af, as long as you don't die to stuff. but you might want to farm like preotorium or something like that get some darklight pieces.
You want my clear and honest opinion about Amdapor?
Get your Grand Company 44 green weapon and go farm HM Ifrit for your ifrit harpoon. Much easier and less of a headache, depending on your luck, you can get it pretty quick.
Just remember...
Phase 1: burn and avoid aoe pits. Get out of the front of clones after ifrit teleports.
Phase 2: Pat BLM or SMN on back for using level 3 AOE LB on nails and cheesing the entire phase. If no blm/smn melee lvl3 lb one nail, goto next and proceed to work on it while dps get other 2. Depending on time crunch lb1/2 nail and focus it down.
Phase 3: Plume aoe spawns in sequence. Spawns outside, then inside, then cluster everywhere but boss. So dps from inside, move towards flank and dps after plumes drop. then get behind again.
Do Amdapor after getting ifrit weapon. Hear less elite qq in DF on Ambador.
waiting 1h while the game reserves an instance for your full party u.u
AF. Level 50 weapon, done. Never once have I ran Amdapor Keep saying: "Shit.. I better gear"
Amdapor Keep is more about knowing what you're doing rather than having much of a gear check. Full AF + a GC weapon / Darklight weapon (ilvl55) / Wanderer's Palace crafted weapon is fine as long as you can adapt to the mechanics. In fact a lot of the content up until Titan HM is very lenient in terms of gear checks.
To those mentioning the Lieutenant Weapons, it's true that you need AK to hit that rank if you didn't obtain it in 1.0. However, what people miss is that Wanderer's Palace drops ilvl 55 stuff, including weapons. Lt Weapons are also ilvl 55.
If i'm in AK, I usually only balk at people who come in with something under 45 or a white weapon without any materia at all. I don't tell them to leave, but I do tell them we may not be able to finish, depending on how bad the gear is.
