My thoughts on FF14

I played FF14 from the first day and quit about Nov. I've been lurking around looking for changes and there are some I like but I'd like to share some of my views about what I feel FF14 is lacking.

Starting with the obvious:

1) Auction House
2) Chocobos
3) Mailbox
4) Worthless currency

1. I know the AH in ff11 wasn't the best but compared to what I have to go through now to find an item I want... it is very frustrating. In the initial weeks with a decent population it was still hard to find an item you wanted... the dev team needs to think of ease of use when dealing with certain aspects of the game. If this game was meant for the casual player... why does it make me go to the Ul'Dah market wards every time i need to go on a shopping trip? If you want to make this more casual friendly this is a possible solution: Keep the wards and make them more crafter material/raw material driven. Make an Auction House where you can only post finished items. Make it possible to remotely send materials for sale to your retainers bazaar. and pick up items from them. (basically you wouldn't be forced to go into the wards you could access it remotely) This will enable to the casual player who say only wants to engage in combat to do the following: Go to town... remotely give useless items to a single or multiple retainers. He can then have these retainer(s) store or bazaar the items remotely. Now that he has dumped off his "trash" he wants to purchase new items... he can simply go to the nearest global auction house and purchase said items.

2. Chocobos. We need them asap. Give us something to remember we are playing a FF game here.

3. Mailbox. While we don't realllly need one if this game is meant to be more "casual" driven I don't see why they wouldn't want to add this functionality

4. The currency in ff14 is worthless. This is an issue because people who want to say focus mainly on crafting are given the shaft in a sense. This game needs a major gilsink... say a 10M gil token you have to buy from a NPC to pop a HNM for starters.

Also...

We need things that draw players to work together... like skillchains... level cap type zones... etc.

I'd also like to see something along the lines of advance class quests. Say to unlock the Paladin job you have to get Shield, Con, and Glad to 30 and it would unlock a Paladin quest. You could come up with 2 tiers of classes... basic and advanced. each advanced class would be a combo of 3 basics classes... just some ideas what ya guys think...?

I know when it comes to programming you basically guess how many hours something will take and what it's priority is... What do you guys feel is the top 3 priority items for SE? Do their have their priorities in the right order? I'd debate they need to fix the mechanics of the game more before they start adding new content.

Next time, consider adding your so-called "suggestions" to the appropriate threads instead of adding one more to the already overwhelmingly redundant stockpile.

The only thing I agree with you on is nothing.

We need chocobos, But I'd rather they take their time and implement them and a raising system right.

Rightnow mailboxes would only help sending stuff between your own characters and RMT.

also its not a Auction House unless there is bidding if all you want is time and convenience they can be implemented without bidding or an auction house to the current system.

Instead of an auction house have a NPC that you can interact with from a central part of the town that will remotely shop the wards for you for a fee. I only want mailbox in the sense that when you buy an item from a proposed "auction house" you could turn 3 feet and instantly get the item. Having to do more than 15 minutes of work to find an item you're looking for is not very casual and I thought that was the aim of ff14.

It takes approximately a minute to buy an item from the wards if you already know what you want.

I just don't understand what's stopping them from letting you purchase from the point where you can view all retainers listing that item and price. And what's stopping them from moving that feature to a more convenient location? I logged in a few days ago to notice I had to travel to Ul'dah to find anything in the wards since it seemed most of the population moved there.

It's so they don't have to admit wasting so many hours of work over a feature they will render obsolete with an auction house. And anyway, the market wards are only sparsely populated in other regions because of the low player population. People flock to Uldah because the population is too low to warrant people having their retainers in LL and Grid.

Even if they implemented an auction house, I am quite sure SE wouldn't make it global. Like FFXI, SE would likely keep the auction houses restricted to each city.

Well I can only agree that gil is pretty worthless, since it is constantly created with not too many ways (and the ways there are arent used that often) to remove it from the game. Everything else.... meh

I like the Market Wards, I just think that it needs to be easier to search for items in the menu.

I like Chocobos, but I like the fact that FFXIV isn't the same as the other FF's even more. I'd rather have a new type of mount TBH.

I'd like mailboxes, but they aren't really necessary to enjoy the game...the only thing I think they would be used for it long-distance trading...I've played numerous MMO's that have mailboxes, and they were only used for 2 things: Long-distance trading and spamming.

Maybe I dislike that gil is useless but I haven't experienced such so far. I've been able to find myself fairly cheap low-mid level equipment so far (10-15k) and make decent money by selling shards. The economy probably isn't too great, but it's a lot better than the RMT-run FFXI economy.

Well FF is FF. you will have your chocobo in a FF. There is just a story behind why we dont have them (talk to the chocobo NPC's for their 2/3 sentence stories). I cant think of a final fantasy that doesn't have a chocobo in it besides the FIRST FF games ever.

I wish they had a mailbox system just so I can mail items between my myself and my mule.

Seriously, how many of you people are going to post the exact same crap over and over, like all of us are dying for your "unique" insight into the games current situation. Unless you can actually bring something new to the table just stick to the discussion in the many posts on this same subject matter that came long before yours.

This may come as a startling revelation to many of you, but not everyone wants FFXI-2 or to just straight copy every other MMO out there and I hope the SE dev team can look past simple fan service and maybe actually bring a little something different to this game.

I think it's safe to assume that we aren't all infant children blind to the flaws prevailing throughout the game. Also they have a forum search at the top of the page, I know all those unique butterflies can't be bothered with such nonsense as posting in other peoples topics however. In all seriousness thought, reading these forums must be the most demoralizing thing they could do to themselves. No matter how hard they work or how little sleep they might get, they will never be able to make such a polarized player base happy on all fronts.

Basically my first forum post (not an avid forum user on any site) and you guys expect me to have thoroughly read every post from the previous months? I'm a huge fan of the FF series and had about 450 days playtime on FFXI I was just sharing some of my thoughts on how I thought the game could be made better.

I'm by no means well spoken but I do feel I have some good ideas that could help FF14. I'm trying to make a constructive post here and I get about 15 negative responses... could deal without all the sarcasm and self proclaimed forum overlords.

I'm sorry you are new to the forums, but for those of us here at the start this is pretty much an everyday occurrence. As we said on the Zam forums all the time. Lurk moar. Pays to read back at least a couple pages to get up to speed on what topics are relevant and which ones are done to death. Sorry for coming off so vitriolic but it's not you I'm frustrated with so much as the community as a whole right now.

Don't get discouraged, Hobo. You'll be happy to know that several other people have voiced the exact same concerns on these forums several times. And you'll also be happy to know that the Market Wards are so much improved from November that you they're actually user friendly.

As for the other things, the devs have already said they're working to address those concerns. Chocobos are coming, mailboxes are coming, and even an Auction House seems pretty likely. They're not in the game yet, but I suspect that over the next few months, they will be. Yoshi-P has also said that he's looking for ways to take money out of the economy. So they're working to address that concern, too.

So don't get discouraged. The vitriol on these forums is already pretty out of hand. The people here aren't expressing frustration with you so much as they're frustrated that people seem to express the same concerns every day. But like I said, that's good news for you because it means the dev team is well aware that people want an auction house, chocobos, and mailboxes.

And for the record, you're perfectly well spoken. :)

Thanks for the responses. Yes I agree the market wards have vastly improved... to a point where alone they aren't that big of an issue. The major issues facing the wards now is just underpopulation. I like the wards now... it would just be great it SE implemented some NPC near the leve counter called a personal shopper. Would charge X gil and allow you to interface and directly purchase from someones bazaar as if you were in the wards yourself. This function alone would save people time while draining gil from the economy.

As for Chocobos... I don't see why SE couldn't just quench our thirst for the yellow feather birds and allow a Chocobo npc at camps with a say 3-5min ride time. Even if this isn't the end purpose of Chocobos for the game it would appease most of the FF audience I believe and breakup the mundane running around when you're out of anima.

I believe we wouldn't even need an AH with what the wards are now just the functionality to remotely access them would seal the deal. And the only reason I really want a mailbox function if just for this interaction... so if the NPC just directly gave the item into your inventory I don't actually see a need for a mailbox system.

I don't like the OP's approach... but I do agree on 2 accounts
I- Chocobos are pretty boss, though I'd also like to have pet/slave Moogles and Goblins... Not sure that's going to happen though
II- Player driven economy should probably revolve around a separate currency than gil, with a definite amount in circulation (a few ten-billion per server?)
