Free upgrade from PS3 version to PS4 version, is this true?

Pretty huge news is true... I fully expected to need to buy PS4 version if I had already owned PS3 version.

(PS4 beta begins Sept 22 as well.)

You might wanna check the official news posts from SE then... there was an official announcement yesterday.

From what I heard The beta for ps4 starts Feb 22nd for us, and yes if you have a ps3 ffxiv account you'll get the ps4 version for free. Just google the sony press conference for confirmation.

Yup this is true. It was all over the FFXIV Twitter as well yesterday.

according to the twitter feed and the facebook this is official the beta is on fubuary the 22nd (on the japanese release of the ps4)

and according to the feeds if you have the ps3 account acitive from either the digital or physical copies your still able to update

This really is very amazing. It sucked when I realized I'd need to buy PS3 version after owning PC version, so this lightens the blow greatly as I naturally expected to buy PS4 version as well.

The would be pretty awesome. I don't want to buy ff14 for PC, PS3 and PS4 so I'm holding off on the PS3 version for now.

IMO you should only need to buy 1 client and it should be playable on all of them from there. You didnt see Blizzard charging extra to play on Mac. /shrug ... good news regardless, although I will not be buying PS3 version until the price drop a bit more.

Hope they dont try to pull this crap with expansions as well. Actually, I think ill hold off on getting the console version until they confirm they wont be double charging expansions too.

I don't understand the people who bought ps3 and pc versions and complain. Why would you WANT to play on ps3 if you have a capable pc. I bought both but my wife pays on ps3 and nee on pc and honestly when I play her character to help her out I hate it. Controls aren't bad but they got nothing on pc, and it looks noticeably downgraded in terms of graphics. Why waste the money on ps3 of your pc can handle high settings. Think SE saw it the same way, pc and console games are a vastly different crowd abd pc gamers tend to only play on pc if that option is there. I know I do, I only console game exclusive games, but will admit to being curious to seeing how much different the ps4 version is than the ps3 one. They don't see it as double charging they see it as a different platform for a different market and I think that's for the most part right.

Well to answer your question as to why they'd play on PS3 rather than PC, personally I play on PS3 because I enjoy the console, and predicted early on I'd be able to upgrade to PS4 for free. Plus to add on, personally I like PC and know the difference but I just more so prefer my PS3 ~shrug~. Everyone has a different reason for everything really.
