PLD for endgame - put everything into VIT ?

For the endgame stuff where the MT gets hit hard, are there situations where having everything in VIT would be a bad idea?

I've been on the STR side for bonus points, but now that I'm at max lvl I'm starting to wonder. There have been times when a few hundred HP would give the healer the moment he/she needs to get the clutch heal off in time, so I definitely see the value in having full VIT, but I'm still unwilling to say that's simple fact because of a lack of data.

Links have been put up for how much STR is needed to increase block strength, and it's clear that 30 STR will not make a huge difference. Those links lack any data beyond that, however. The data I need to make an informed decision on STR vs VIT would be:
1. How much dmg 1% block strength will mitigate over any given fight (boss, trash, etc.)
2. How much enmity 30 STR will garner.

Particularly on the enmity point, no effort has been made to gather data (that I have seen). People say that it's negligible, but they never back up that claim with numbers, so it's purely their uninformed opinion based solely on their individual experiences.

I don't have numbers, but I've tanked up to and including hard mode Titan. Single target, halone combo will fairly easily keep aggro on you, even vs. geared dps and healers spamming aoe spells. Holding threat, especially single target, is not a concern if you know what you are doing. Thats why people say the enmity gain from str is neglible - you can hold aggro perfectly fine without it.

30 Vit gives me about 500 more health at my level and I think there's vit bonuses. It's super useful. If Warriors are awesome because of their high health, then that 30 vit + vit from our shields allows us to reach as close as possible towards that amount that makes Warriors so awesome.

Increase health regeneration, heals that heal by percentages, able to take more hits/more hp to mitigate damage with, great with Iron Skin, honestly, there's more pros than con. 1% block strength won't always help where 30 vit will always help no matter what.

Dying and being revived, 15% health lost, that Vit gives you just a bit more which can makes all the difference. I also never had trouble with hate/threat.

Again, you're not backing this up with any data. It's a subjective statement with no point of reference. How do you define "trouble"? Have you never, even once, lost aggro on an enemy? I find that hard to believe.

1. Remains an interesting question overall.
2. Is irrelevant for paladin tanks amongst us who main tank, as beyond the first few seconds of the fight there's no risk of aggro loss on single target as long as rage of halone is maintained.

For picking up adds the additional str may be beneficial, although will it allow us to beat the gap with the warrior? The warrior too can equally stack strength, and as such for rapid burst enmity the warrior is likely to remain advantageous.

Parry tiers are 243, 282, 324, 363 and 405 which means that depending on your gear you may need up to 42 STR for it to make a difference. Block depends on the shield you are using, but also have tier gaps of up to 50 STR so that 30 STR you are specced in to might be doing absolutely nothing. Each tier increases your block/parry damage reduction by 1% so in an ideal situation the most you can get from 30 STR is 1% additional damage reduction on parries, and 1% additional damage reduction on blocks.

So let's assume your 30 STR bumps you in to the next block tier for your shield, and let's assume that shield is the "Super Shield of Win" with a block rate of 100%. Can you tell me how much of an EHP increase that extra 1% reduction on blocks would give my PLD with 4925 HP. Hint: It's not 450 (or 480 in a party), and thus not better than 30 VIT and I don't even have a "Super Shield Win".

With the mitigation argument blown away we can look for a brief moment at maintaining aggro. There aren't figures anywhere that can give us a detailed breakdown of how much we can increase our enmity generation potential via increasing our STR however, we don't need these numbers to decide if additional STR over VIT is worth it as answering this simple question is enough:

"Is holding hate a problem?"

The answer is no, and thus there is no reason to add STR for enmity purposes alone.

I put a little into STR and DEX and the rest into VIT and end game I have 4K HP and 4.2K in a party. I guess it would depend what shield you also use however. Block Rate or Block Strength.

Shield doesn't block magical damage right ?

Personally I like VIT better, just personal preference. Just do whatever you feel is better. I personally have survived encounters where my HP dropped below the 450 you get from the 30 VIT, and that's good enough for me.

Although I am not finished with the story I will say with current experiences in mind

When I was running with 5 points in strength, 5 in dex, and 20 in vitality yeah I had the health to take some hard hits but when I switched and did a 2:1 ratio of str and vit (20 str 10vit) I only lost out on maybe 150hp and Im doing atleast 50-75 more damage with each hit of my rotations (An upwards of 250 with rage of halone as opposed to 150. And I am also having less occasions where I lose enmity.

In my opinion Buckler type Shields before Bulwark, after you get that tower shield are the way to go.
