Is it worth spending 10k to respec int->mnd? Scholar

I had not intended to play as a scholar, but after trying it out and doing the queue.. I'd say I find it very time-efficient, because sometimes I don't have too much time to play and if every time I want to do a dungeon I had to wait 90 minutes it's not very appealing to me.

And so since level 40-ish I started playing scholar for 90% of stuff.. However as I originally planned to be summoner (I really liked the egis, feels like collectible pets) I have 30 points in INT.

After I ran a few runs of AK(only won once, wiped the rest..) I realized I don't heal enough, especially for demon wall. The last boss is OK but I think if I burn out this early, for the harder content it would be harsher.. So how much is 30 MND going to affect me? Thanks!

I haven't done much testing but my gut tells me yes. I went a pure mind build. My items are full level 60, one darklight, basic quest jewelry. My mind is around 370. It's going to be tough for you to make up that much mind on gear alone.

My highest heal is a 1.2k critical on physick. I average in the mid 600s although I'm noticing odd variations in my efficiencies on different tank players (not caused by fairy buff). I go as low as mid 500s, highs in the mid 700s.

Do you think the DPS queue might go down some day? Although I've noticed that I play really bad as summoner, and I do alright as healer. And another question if you don't mind, which DL gears should I grab? I was thinking Cowl for defenses but heard it was a bad idea because no materia melding for the hat (although I was more thinking of DL as a stepping stone towards the next one.. so why would people put materia in it is a little beyond me)

I'm considering going with pie or vit because i quite like playing both jobs when i get the chance.

You'll have the flexibility, but you won't have the raw healing power. That may be a problem later.

Also, piety on a scholar/summoner is super redundant. We have ridiculous sustain just with base stats.

Well, it wasn't an issue to me prior to AK. Only then I realized succor can't help if anyone got caught by purple floor even once and then repelled..

Hi Rinoa,

From the math standpoint of things, the +30 Mind may boost your healing by about 8% of what it is now, looking at your current gear on Lodestone.

What I find in the Demon Wall fight, if too many people are getting hit on the floor or not dodging the bees, the healer cannot save the party persay. A healer can make up for one player who does not dodge or missteps usually, but not when two or three players get hit hard.

Not sure why you are trying to use succor to stop the floor? That's going to be a losing battle regardless of your stats or equipment - it must be avoided. You can Leeches off the cast speed debuff, but you should only do that on yourself. Do not try to make up for DPS mistakes.

Demon Wall is actually very very easy. It has a completely static rotation and the timing is simple to get a hang of. I can nearly do it with my eyes closed now.

If bees give you grief, just use a single target LB on one and get rid of it. Your DPS should be high enough to take down the Demon Wall prior to you running out of time.

Here's exactly what you do as a healer:

1) Split the bridge into 3 equal sized columns. The left and right columns are safe to start on.
2) The wall will start by pooling the middle column.
3) It will immediately transition to the left/right columns after a couple of seconds. Be sure to move center, do not wait for a cast.
3a) If you screw up, immediately leeches yourself after getting off the pool.
4) Stand in the center facing directly to the demon wall. Start casting succor. After push back immediately drop sacred soil in the middle, in front of the demon wall.
5) Repeat 2-4 once more.
6) Bees enter, repeat 2-4 while carefully avoiding bee AoE. Be ready with Lustrate on your tank.
7) Repeat 6 until you win.

10k seals is practically nothing, just make the switch. If you feel like switching back buy another scroll. What else do you really need seals for anyway.

Judging by every other MMO with a DF/LFG functionality, absolutely not. DPS queues *always* suck.

I actually have only done a few runs, and so far the bees spawned 3 or 4 times I think. Might be the party isn't killing him fast enough.. I think I even have some where I didn't even get caught once by purple pool. But thanks for the advice! Well, for seals the only thing I had in mind was the serpent hatchling..

Edit: 8% is actually pretty massive. Will it be nigh impossible to do the higher content had I stayed to my +30 int? What scale of difficulty would it put me in say, 1-10, 1 being negligible heal difference and 10 being impossible to win without. (Looking down the road, stuff like coil of bahamut..)

Yeah your party is likely not killing fast enough. Demon Wall and the subsequent boss are pretty much Gear checks, although Demon Wall is the more obvious one. Your party needs to be on top of dodging the floor traps because believe it or not Cleric Stance DoTs (or in my WHM's case, nuking) right at the start of the fight when there's little reason to heal, really helps out a ton since everything in that fight is based on time rather than the Demon Wall's HP.

Why isn't Scholar Int based healing?? Is that for real?

i would stay as summoner if it's what you plan on playing full time... (not to mention that you won't be able to need on the offensive caster gear in amdapor keep) that 30 int instead of mind is really going to hurt you as a scholar, and i know you won't feel like farming fates to get 10k seals every time you want a faster queue

i split half int half mnd since I switch to smn and acn sometimes. the int doesnt go to waste on sch if you consider that int points are still giving you some gains with ruin+miasma+bio+bio2+energy drain+bane

For any serious fight the healer should Heal, DPSers should DPS and Tanks should Tank. (I know, right?)
Do you think 15 points in Int will help your dots/Ruin hit harder and win the fight?
Any challenging content has no room for gimped specs, IMO.

Simple solution, give both SMN and SCH cleric stance, rather than just SCH. This way you can pump mind, and still be great as SMN if you cross-class up cleric stance.


I'm a bit perplexed why they didn't do this in the first place. Also why SCH only gets leeches at 40, when CNJ gets esuna at like...what, 16? 18? Kinda sucks if you want to queue as heals 30-39. Why didn't they just cross-class esuna to SCH too....I dunno.

I like to play both SMN and SCH(mine are still low level) and the MND bonus of the job crystal in the 30s is enough to carry your healing, but if you went full int to be SMN, you're SCH healing is going to suffer the higher you get. You have to choose, or spend 10k seals every time you want to play the other job, which tbh is a bit ridiculous to ask of someone. Spending them once or twice, sure, but every time you want to switch things up? Sour.

If Scholars' are still contributing their DoTs, I wouldn't say the INT is wasted until Cleric's Stance dancing is involved. And the OP is in a position to pursue Summoner statistically speaking.

TBH look at the duty finder que's some of us like playing both SMN and SCH so why should we need to pick i'm not shore what way i will go but i'm thinking of going 50/50 as well and please you can't tell me 15 points either way is going to make or break healing or dpsing

Well, I've finally made up my mind and I used the seals. I can say I'm very satisfied with the results, cause with the pet buff (Fey illumination I believe) now I can heal 1k with physick. I think I heal about 50~60 more than before I put points in it, which over time really adds up. While I'm very excited that summoners have cool looking pets, I must say the queue time required doesn't really fit my schedule, and I've always been liking the egis for aesthetic purposes only. I guess I'll just play scholar for most of the time. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

A few Demon Wall tips. Your faerie can clip into the wall and be fine, so place her right in the walls face at the start, and you won't have to worry about her getting repelled. You may have to move her when the wall gets farther up, but she will heal through it with no issue. Force-casting Embrace via macro works well here, too.

And honestly, I do most of Demon Wall in Cleric Stance. Shield everyone, use CS, run on the left side, and drop all your DOTs. Usually spam Ruin II/Energy Drain with a Succor after the first repel to reapply the shield, then keep DPSing. Usually your DPS + the rest can let you limit-break kill the wall without worrying about the bees, but if you're in a group that fights them, just turn off cleric stance here and start spamming Succor. Force-cast with the Faerie and dispel and you shouldn't have any issue...

This was a bit of a surprise to me. How can you macro/force cast Embrace?

i don't know about any pet macros, but you can either put embrace on your bars or keybind the pet bars (in the hotbar section in the keybind menu)

I've come to realize, the only issue I had was that I've never made use of Lustrate (sorry for all the groups that went with me!)
Ahahaha, but that aside, the 30 MND sure bumps up my heal a fair bit.

350 - > 380 MND is a 9% healing increase. Ilvl 44 weapon - > ifrits is a 15% healing increase.
