Character Priority Visualisation

Greetings.

I really adored the previous Firefall Faire and Moonfaire Faire events and I was sure I could do the same in the new Eorzea.
However, as much as I'm loving these reborn lands, fighting Bombards in that mess was everything but fun: it was already mentioned in other threads, the priority of character visualisation. I have good FPS eh, around 30-35 even if there're so many adventurers, but the problem is server-side. I couldn't target the Bombards, and, when I could, invisible adventurers were already killing them. Sometimes I got one, but it moved away and suddenly disappeared.

No big deal for the event itself because I already got several ashes in the past days before the event started, but in my opinion this character priority problem needs to be addressed as fast as possible.
I'm writing a review for A Realm Reborn and unfortunately I'll have to talk negatively on this matter, since it's way too evident, also considering this is supposedly the announced new server network, different than the one in the old Eorzea. I hope it will be alleviated in the future.

As you can see, there's not a single bombard name that can be seen, and as much as I like to read characters' dialogues, that “Ngaaah!” is not the priority at that moment; actually, I wish it could stay there, but all those adventurers need to go.
I better not speak about Behemoth, but we all know the mess that battle is.

Please, devs, think about solving this issue. No official response was given yet, so I hope they're already working on it.

Hello again.

Today I had the “pleasure” to face Behemoth in Coerthas... but it wasn't a pleasure at all. And not for his bad breath, but for this:

I had to edit the picture because of the usual new RMT sending /tell... But what was this? Really, it's already been mentioned, but it's far worse than I could imagine.

I was getting killed in one hit without even seeing a thing. It was just a running around to see him and be fast enough before he disappeared.

In the end he did an attack that reduced me to 1 HP... I didn't even see it.

I needed to face Behemoth once for review purposes, now I'll stay far from him until the battle will come to know the word “Fun”.


This was the only fun part of the battle (besides the nice starting music):

Please, reps, let us know if there're countermeasures planned for this issue. Still no word on this matter...
The battle with Behemoth and Odin are rare already, and it would be nice to enjoy them if we are lucky enough to catch them.

Priority needs to be:

1. Party Members
2. Monsters
3. Free Company Members
4. Linkshell Members
5. Other players.

I can't even find my own party members to heal.

Speaking of which, where is my option to turn off loading other players? Why do I even need to see them at events like this?

Definitely a correct priority list. I'm not sure why this wasn't included at launch and I really want a dev to make note of plans to address / looking into it, etc. They need to be way more diligent on showing public understanding of the issues we bring up. These fates are rather unplayable for some people and, on the topic of fates, raises should give you substantial credit!

On PC i dont have such Problems.

Please upload a screenshot the next time you do Odin or Behemoth of you without the problems. We would all love to see it.

This is a major problem and there's a topic in the feedback? forums about it. It needs to be addressed ASAP.

No, it's on PC. And not an engine problem. I had 25 FPS even if it was such a mess. The issue is server-side. It's not possible not to have this problem, because it doesn't depends on our computers or Internet connection... unless I see a video of adventurers fighting properly Behemoth or Odin, that is.

I hope we'll have an answer on this sooner or later...

This is not a server side issue. I'd like to clarify as to why.

This is a client side issue. Everything you see 'visually' is client side, (Graphics, Audio, Animation). The problem you're seeing is the games engine saying ' There are 100 models rendered within 3 meters of the camera, I will derender the rest'. Without this limit memory issues would occur and things would become extremely slow and or simply crash.

The only thing the server sends is numbers. Lots of numbers to interpret your actions, others actions and all the other various changes happening. The server does NOT handle anything you see visually. Your game sends its information to the server, and requests information back that's it.


There is a set rendering count for all character models, sadly monsters are counted in this.
It's a simple client based hot fix which doesn't derender (make his go away) FATE bosses, should the character limit be reached.

Your Internet Connection HAS NOTHING to do with the rendering limit, however downloading the charachter data packets might cause a 'popin' delay if there's a struggle to download the data needed to load in the correct models.


The reason you were able to keep a steady frame rate was because of this client side engine limitation. Without it you'd find a comparable performance loss. However fixing it so we can see Odin and Behemoth should be an easy patch.

Ah, thanks for the explanation! I was sure it was a server-side problem, but what you said seems more convincing. Hopefully we'll get soon the “We're working on it.” we're waiting for.

Fully agree. That's a great priority list.

It's definitely not a client issue. I can rock these lagless at the 60fps cap, and mobs/players are still invisible.

Your misinterpreting the word client.

The client we are talking about it the program you use to play the game. This is what hold the mass information of the game. The server holds only information of travel paths and other various little things and relays it back to the client.

It IS a client issue.

The server ONLY processes data such as;

Player/Enemy movements, actions, gear/appearance data, chat.
This is all the 'invisible' number crunching that is being sent between You > Server > You.


ALL RENDERING is done client-side on your computer, this includes;
Animations
Graphics
Sounds

The game basically says "There are 100 things on screen at once, therefore the rest I won't render", this is easily fixed for FATE bosses, they just need to tell the game.

Can I prioritize the rendering so I see the women first?

I believe you will be less likely to experience the visual problems if you uncheck the Occlusion Culling option in the Graphics settings. I never had a problem with targets vanishing till I turned it on. If if you have a low-end rig, it might hit your FPS too hard to keep it off.
