You can get the Chocobo Egg Cap from the Spriggan NPC at one of the cave/dungeons by giving him one of each elemental egg. He doesn't take the special eggs like Dark, Painted, Coloured, etc. For Thanalan, that would be the North Most area on the west side of Nanawa Mines.

A cave northwest of bloodshore @ 34, 18 has spriggans that drop several eggs at a time.

For Black Shroud the npc is loacated at 5,5 in muy tuy. You'll want to be at least lvl 30 to get to him or have help. -

The Cassiopeia Hollow Spriggan for the Choco hat can be gotten to solo at ~R25. There are a pair of ~R30 Revenants guarding it, but they can be pulled separately. There are no other aggro mobs between the aetherial gate and Iggy.

Spirrigan west of Skull Valley roaming outside (not in cave) at around (9,22) It dropped Archon Egg and Earth Archon Egg for me.
EDIT: Also, plenty of Spirrigans in Cave near Bloodshore at (35,18) -

Just for the record, you don't need to kill Spirrigans in high level areas to get Umbral and Darkened eggs (I can only confirm Umbral but I'm pretty sure its both): I got an Umbral egg off of one of the many Spirrigans around The Silver Bazaar south of Horizon.

Yeah I ended up buying the midnight egg for 50k. I'm only a 27 pug so I figured I wouldn't be able to get the hat anyway. I did end up also buying an egg for 2k that I think i don't need now lol.
