DPS Class Popularity

Just want to get a general idea on which DPS classes are over and under populated from people's experiences so far.

arc > goon > acn > blm > pug would be my opinion from what i've seen in game

I think it really depends on the server, honestly.

On my legacy servers I see a TON of summoners because a lot of people have level 50 of everything else except that job because it is new.

I'm weird because I like picking the "rarest class" (I am a class hipster, I guess) so I chose monk.

Bard for sure is the most popular. especially since word on the block is that they're the best DPS by a large margin (and brain dead easy)

Haven't seen that many Bards on Moogle. Mostly I group up with BLM's and MNK's. That's just a hands-on feeling though.

Dragoons far outnumber other dps classes.

Hmmmm, Not many people tend to play monk and yet the class is the most fun, Just depends on what you want out of the game, what i do know is if there are 1000 bards on your server and 20 monks and you can manage to pull the same if not better dps, they will notice you for it.

Used to be DRG but now all I see is BRD like everyone is playing it so hope it gets mega nerfed.

i see tons of DRG and BLM on my server not many bards or monks

Seeing tons of Bards and Dragoons on Balmung. Though, that's to be expected. Dragoon is the one "cool," class. The "cool," armor, the "cool," storyline, etc. It's generally going to attract most people who play MMOs because they like to feel entitled in some way. People playing Bards either like bards or are playing for efficiency. Me, I just like spears. (Currently playing DRG and the forum is still loading me as a Monk, so ignore that.)

Dragoon is the most popular on my server at least. Why? Kain, thats why...

Theres been a great increase in the number of archers as well, but its still mostly dragoons that I end up with. I also play with a disproportionate amount of monks compared to what I thought I'd see. Oddly, in my dungeon runs the most rare class has been summoner, which I'd never have guessed considering how many I see doing fates.

Bard needs flat out 30% DPS nerf at least.

Why should a range class that has no cast time, require no positioning and is suppose to be support the highest dps?

Why is the easier to play class (able to make 1 macro to rule them all and use only 5 buttons) do the highest dps?

Range, No positoning requirement, no skill requirement, brings support and still best dps? wtf? It should be lowest DPS in game.

Whooooaaaaa you are mad.

Songs already give a 20% damage nerf. Yes, on a lot of current content, songs aren't needed. But once songs are used more frequently, the damage will level itself out.

But I thought summoners were the top dps...?

What I see quite often:

* Bards
* Dragoons
* Summoners

Something I really thought I would see EVERYWHERE are Blackmages. Where the hell are the Blackmages?

I would say BLMs and MNK are the least seen.

Which is surprising, BLMs are great, and I would've loved to be a MNK if I didn't want to play ranged instead.

I see way too many BRDs. Like, every single group, 2 or 3 BRDs. If I could reroll I totally would.

Instead, I'll just be the best bard I can be!

Yup I have a level 50 black mage on moogle and currently leveling a monk on odin both classes are really fun. I personally thought black mage would be popular too.

1- SMN
2- SMN yeah lol
3- BRD/DRG
4- BLM
5- MNK

how about extremely hard to get gear compare to other class? And bard has no offensive skill unlike other job, and to use their skills, bard lose 20% dps?

1) It's not supposed to be support. That went out the window the instant they took away Conjurer and forced us to queue as DD in the duty finder.

2) Healing Limit Break that heals for about the same as 1 AoE heal.

3) Have you SEEN bard AF pants??? We should be top dps simply for having to wear those hideous things...

Okay I agree with you with everything but point 3; those pants are simply fabulous.

on behemoth i mostly see bards = dragoons -> black mages -> summoners = monks

edit: at 50 i should add, while leveling all i saw were summoners and bards

On shiva it seems to be a fairly even mix of

BLM=SMN=DRG=BRD

and only MNK is kinda rare.

Every DPS class has so many different threads that its just a straight up mess to find anything on them but look at the monks and they have a thread that has stayed on the first page since this forum has opened so honestly they are the most organized and probably help each other in so many ways. It's a shame the other DPS classes can't just discuss the class in one thread which would make finding information far easier.

From my opinion : drg

I love the BARD AF Gear and cannot wait until I can get it.
On behemoth I see a ton of Arcanists and Scholars right now. I only saw a ton of Bards while I am doing my Archer/Bard Quests.

So far, I've seen many Black Mages, Summoners and Bards (so these are probably the more popular classes on the world I play~)

As for Dragoons and Monks, not as many as the above but still more Dragoons than Monks @@

On Moogle it seems like Archers and Thaums are popular, or at least popular as alts, and I've grouped with Monks more than Summoners. My level-50 friends talk as if they see many Dragoons in end-game often, but I've seen exactly 1 in lower dungeons.

amen brother

i cant believe that the class with less restrictions that can be doing the 100 % of their dps on move be the best dps on a tank and spank fight.
if u tell me that on a heavy movement fight bards are the best i dont mind.the problem is when bards are the best dps on every situation.
Hunter on wow have the same movility and are 20 % behind to every dps spec on a tank and spank fight due to this.
Fanboys of bards can cry all that they want but the reality is that bards are the best dps on every situation right now and have the best support skill(only sumoner have the same with the revive)so they need a nerf to the dps or to their movility.

Can't help it. But Monks look awfull. Their Artifact-Armor is super ugly and their fist-weapons even worse. They would be so cool to play but they really have a style-problem.

That's been said, I can confirm too that on my Server Monks are the fewest. However, I have quite often a BLM in my groups these days.
