Well Titan is an awfully interesting experiment.

So this is practically what other games consider a normal mode raid boss. Maybe a few less mechanics, and a shorter period of time taking him down. But dang! World of Warcraft's Cataclysm dungeons got nerfed to the floor after what the player base considered too many one shot mechanics on bosses. Titan spits on all those people and tells you that you're gonna deal with one shot mechanics. Top it off he has two burn phases, and a dang bubble someone has to break.

Are ye askin too much of the typical quester who wants to see the story? I don't find the boss particularly challenging since i've done my fair share of raiding and dungeon crawling in other MMO's, but the initial group I was in had a DPS who couldn't manage to get the mechanics and ended up with everyone leaving. I think that requiring the fight might be asking a bit much for those who are lore seekers and not game players.

In the other hand, it is an AWESOME fight.

Edit: Anyway I finished it with a good group. Only one wipe from someone getting thrown off the edge. It's a pretty fun encounter, but sometimes the fun gets sapped away if you have to requeue for another hour as DPS. Can't wait for Garuda, i'm probably going to need to get in a server group for that.

They shouldn't be playing the game if they aren't looking to...you know...play the game.

You're oversimplifying it. There are different types of players in MMO's. You have the lore nuts, the higher raids, the economy business buffs, PVPers etc. But stickin what I would consider in relation to other MMO's a fairly tough PVE fight for a story mode is wild! I feel bad for some people i've been seeing in the post 30's dungeons who just want to finish it up.

edit: Like I said, from a perspective of a player who has done this stuff before, he's not exactly a super ridiculous encounter. But I do wait 40 minutes in duty finder to fight him, and if there is just one party member who doesn't *get it*, then insta queue tank tends to just leave. Another 40 min queue hoping everyone is on the same page. This is just so I can continue my story based stuff. That's annoying for me, imagine how the poor lore seeker must feel when they leave the encounter in shame,

Beware the AoE... If they can't down Titan then they have no chance with Garuda. Titan (SM) is easy.

I managed to get it down with a group on the first try because one of my party mates had done it before and was good at explaining the encounter. It definitely had some surprises and was quite intense compared to random dungeon groups in other games and even previous dungeons. I think the thing here, and with some of the other dungeons I've been in, is that the mechanics are not foreshadowed as much as they are in other games. The first run through, if no one has done it before, is very much a trial-and-error type that can be somewhat frustrating to people who are used to games where dying isn't normally part of the learning process. In the end, they aren't actually that hard to master (so far).

The hardest time I've had was the first run through of the Sunken Temple, which, if you thought Titan had unforgiving mechanics, you'll probably squeal a little at the Tauri and Adjudicator bosses. They are extremely rewarding to get down, once you do, and subsequent fights are much easier.

Titan was a cake walk compared to Garuda. People that take more than 2 wipes and can't get the mechanics on story mode Titan should feel bad.

One of the reasons why I don't still play WoW is because Blizzard catered to the lowest common denominator and consequently made the game absolutely boring to me. I hope SE don't destroy their game trying to pander to those that cry foul at the first mild challenge they encounter.

There is a reason why those challenges in games where you really had to fight for them are burned into your memory and those that were gifted to you are forgotten shortly after.

It sounds like the difficulty curve needs to be reworked. The first several dungeons, as well as Ifrit, are a joke. Mechanics that you can't just ignore should be introduced earlier, and you shouldn't be able to just tank avoidable AoE. Early on, avoidable attacks should punish you by reducing your max health temporarily if you are hit. Going straight to one-shots is too much.

I found Garuda easier than titan.

40 minute Duty Finder? I've had to wait maybe 10 minutes max on my Paladin.

Not really. The curve starts a bit earlier in Brayflox I believe. There you start to get the bubbles, continuously adding in mobs into a fight as well as an unrelated annoying goblin to test how the party holds out under the pressure of being attacked at any time. The dragon's poison could be difficult for a Scholar to manage as well.

titan is easy.

welcome to DPS in duty finder. Unless you are or have a healer or tank then you wait...

Story mode titan is very easy. Spread around him so only one person has to move when he readies his knockback, and move out of it when he uses it. That's pretty much the entire fight.

What makes the fight "hard" is that one player who has his helmet strapped too tight is going to almost always wipe the group, since you likely won't have any chance at 3 manning it. When I tired it my first time, our healer got thrown every single time the knockback was on him. It's not that he had high latency or slow reaction time, he just didn't move at all. 4 people with beginner lvl raid awareness will flatten Titan with no issues whatsoever.

Wait for Garuda...

Unless everyone in the party has their act together you just won't make it, no matter how hard you try.
My 1st party had pretty good spirit, but somehow we still weren't able to make it. I think it was either bad luck or then the players just weren't up to the challenge.

With my 2nd party we got her in the 1st try, I didn't believe my eyes with the difference...

It's very hard to offer enough challenge for most of us and then at the same time make sure that those who struggle can, in the end, progress the story. I honestly have no idea how some of the guys I've seen make it past certain fights... But then it would also be very lame to nerf the fights, that would make it way too boring for the rest of us. I enjoyed both Titan and Garuda, because they were challenging.

Let's put it this way. Titan Hard Mode has broken up entire Free Companies. He's not exactly hard, he's just one long endurance trial -- and often it can exhaust players who can't burn him down fast enough. If you think Normal Mode Titan was difficult, wait until everything he throws at you 1 shots you and you have pretty much no place to hide from it.

First time I tried the Tank only autoswang.. *flashbacks*

Pls, Titan was easy as hell.

If you have problems with lag and get knocked off no matter how fast your reactions, just get your tank to hold Titan at the edge of the ring. Stay close to Titan. you'll get hit, knocked back, but you won't fall off. Get your whm to medica after every four stomps, Medica twice again at his jumping move, and keep regen and cure on the tank. Clear the stones asap, His heart has such low HP, 1 DD can kill it in time for Earthen Fury. Easy!

Agreed, if only because of the AOE lag issues bashing people who had cleared the markers.

Took me 46 attempts to clear story mode Titan. A high percentage of those involved some sort of lag affecting getting members of the party able to run out of AoE range.

if titan is to hard for your taste you could always do your hunting log

Every Dungeon after 32 is hard (except CC ) Every Primal fight after Titan (SM) is hard

about 1/4 of this thread didn't read my original post.

Garuda HM is harder then Titan HM

Problem is latency is screwing people in Titan HM
